I neglected to mention that I love that collage image of all the source artwork Emmanuel!

60 hours to go and creeping up on $25k. I wonder if those last 48 hours will let it reach $30k? Sounds like another future guessing game, in addition to when will a deck fund, what will the total be. :D

Congrats Emmanuel, looking forward to getting this one and adding another uncut. However, I am ESPECIALLY looking forward to Delicious. You said it would launch in 2015, I hope that means immediately after Sawdust ships.
Thanks Nate :) I love how the collage photo turned out, too! I think I'll make one for my previous and future decks.

I'll likely give myself a little bit more time between the shipping of Sawdust and the launch of Delicious. I know other companies and designers have done back-to-back or overlapping campaigns, but I'm still feeling a little whiplash from wrapping up Clipped Wings to launching Sawdust within 4 weeks, haha.

I was really on the fence about getting the uncut for this or not. Mostly because of the price, and the shipping (I know that can't be avoided though). Had it been $50 shipped I wouldn't have hesitated at all, but $70 is kinda steep even with the deck. I might have mentioned it before, but I just wanted to say why I waited until the final hour to pledge. Not really a complaint, more like feedback.

Emmanuel, how about doing an experiement? Lower the cost of uncuts on Delicious and see how many more pledge for them. I'm pretty sure it would be more, but how much more? Considering the high profit margin on uncuts, I don't think it would take that many more sales to make a lower price point more profitable overall. Just a thought :)

I agree, even Jackson is lowering the price of uncuts to $30 each domestic shipped. They're more popular now but I really believe they'll become even more if the prices dropped. IMO, $20-30 shipped is a good price. Too bad is costs so much to ship international.

The uncut does include a deck so more like 40 and both are signed, which some are starting to charge for. So it is on the high side, but not too bad for what it is. That is getting close to my limit, but was in this time for sure.

Tom, Brent, and Nate, thank you very much for your feedback!

Brent is right, it costs a lot to ship internationally, especially an uncut sheet. I underestimated the international shipping costs for the Clipped Wings uncut sheet, which influenced the current price of the Sawdust uncut sheet ($40/$60 up from the $40/$55 for Clipped Wings).

I will consider all options for the Delicious campaign. Offering reasonable prices is important to me.

Thank you again to everyone who backed Sawdust!

As promised, here are the answers to the contests now that the Kickstarter campaign ended. The winners were notified earlier this morning. Thank you to all who participated!

CONTEST A

1. In the first video, how many times is the word “Sawdust” spoken out loud? 4 times.

2. In the first video, how many sound effects are used to emphasize individual cards? 9 sound effects.

3. In the second video, how many cards appear more than once? 5 cards. The Jack, Queen, and King of Spades appear 3 times. Both Jokers appear twice.

4. Not including the central trio, which Sawdust cards are referenced in the second Joker?

These 10 cards are referenced:
• 4 of Spades (the elephant and mouse)
• Ace of Clubs (the monkey)
• 8 of Diamonds (the woman on the knife wheel)
• Queen of Clubs (the wire walker)
• 3 of Hearts (the man on stilts and the little girl)
• 9 of Hearts (the little boy and the dachshund)
• 8 of hearts (the showgirl)
• 10 of Hearts (the giraffes)
• 6 of clubs (the human cannonball)
• King of Hearts (the lion tamer and cub)

5. Which appear more in the Sawdust deck, female or male characters? Neither/equally/evenly. Female characters and male characters appear the same number of times (60 appearances each).

6. What number larger than 10 appears multiple times in the Sawdust deck? The number 52.

7. Which circus cast member has an injury? The woman on the knife wheel (from the 8 of Diamonds) has a Band-Aid on her leg when she reappears in the second Joker card.

8. A parent and their child do not appear together in the same card. Which cards show this parent-child pair? The little girl in the 4 of Diamonds is the daughter of the ringmaster in the King of Diamonds. She’s dressed just like her father, and both their top hats transform into Diamond pips.

9. Refer to questions 5 and 6 to calculate: The number of males (60) + the number of females (60) – the answer to question 6 (52) – the number of Sawdust court cards (12) = 56. 56 is the number of cards in the uncut sheet (or printed deck).

10. There’s a pair of happy and sad faces hidden in which Sawdust card? The 8 of Clubs. The bicycle wheels are eyes, the trapeze bars are noses, and the aerialists form the mouths. The sad face is on the left and the happy face is on the right.

11. The National Flag of the Philippines is referenced in which Sawdust card? The 7 of Hearts. The sun emblem of the flag is on the lower back of the illustrated man and the 3 stars of the flag are on his upper back.

CONTEST B

1. Not including the box, how many times does the letter S appear in the Sawdust paper-cut cards? The letter S appears 96 times (this includes the back design, which has 11 S’s). The hint about “the largest S is in one of the court cards“ referred to the King of Clubs. The trapeze performers form a giant S.

2. Not including the box, how many times would the letter S appear if 1 Sawdust deck was printed today? The letter S would appear 743 times.

Playing cards are double-sided, so the S’s on the faces and the backs have to be accounted for.

The faces: 96 (the number of S’s in the 55 paper-cut cards, which includes the back design since there’s a double-backer card) + 31 (the number of S’s in the poem, which is the 56th card) = 127 S’s

The backs: 11 (the number of S’s in the back) x 56 (total number of cards) = 616

Total: 743 S’s.

Here are the images of the Sawdust cards.

I missed the trapeze performers large S and didn't even think about the poem.

I got 60 men, 59 women, going to have to see what I missed there. That of course threw off #9, but since it was 55 card deck it still was meaningful. Grrr.

As I said in the email the Q8 is so subjective to the point this is almost a guess. 4oH and 5oH also seem to match, 4oD could match to BOTH QoD/KoD, acrobat or clown children could also be matched up. I suppose the 4oD/KoD is the closest, but this one was pure evil. ;)

No mention of winner, did anybody get them all 100%? Also curious how many submissions you got since this was a bit more involved. About half way through I questioned myself spending the time.

Hi Nate, yes, there are 2 winners (1 for each contest), and they were told this morning. They earned it, the contests weren't easy!

29 people participated, and several of them submitted answers for both contests.

Question 8 was tricky, but a few people correctly picked up on the ringmaster connection.

I also counted 60 males & 59 females. :( But I was also wrong about the hidden happy and sad faces. And I was nowhere close to being right on the number of S's! LOL!

Congrats to the winners. That was the most challenging contest I've participated in a long time!

DragonSoul, I really liked the chart you sent me! I figured out why you counted 59 women. In the Diamonds column of your chart, the tally for female characters add up to 20, but 19 was typed in.

2. Your pledge includes a signed Sawdust deck.

Please select if you want me to sign on the cellophane covering the box or if you want me to sign directly on the box.
Thanks so much for this, I was already to type out the request for the box unwrapped signature, but you are giving people the direct option right away. Awesome. :D
