Another day of the dead deck. Sorta.

Unread post by Eoghann »

Stumbled upon this deck the other day and I contacted the designer to see if she had any available. She said sure and then the price knocked me off my seat. About $45 plus shipping from Puerto Rico. yeesh.

So I've been trying to negotiate with her but she insists that a lot of work was put into this collector's item hence the price. Whatever.

So I talked her into a possible discount if I do a bulk order. So I wanted to gauge interest in it. It's a set of Spanish playing cards with the day of the dead theme. Keep in mind that a set of Spanish playing cards comes with 40 cards. 1-7 and 10,11,12.

She hasn't mentioned how much the discount would be but I have a feeling it won't be groundbreaking. Anyone interested let me know.

Thanks!

They're kinda cool sorta reminds me of an Italian scopa deck. The back looks like Aloys meets Edgy Brothers. I think I'd just like it more if it were American and USPCC, price aside.

I'm interested. :) The price is definitely high (most art decks are), but if she lowers it to $25-$30, I *might* go for it. I think it's unique, and I've never owned a Puerto Rican deck before. Those BRC decks were pretty pricey too, but a good number of people got those (including me), so you never know.

Since is more people, I can fix the price to $30 each deck. Remember, the shipping is not included. If you get more people interested, I can low more the price.
Good news! Convinced her to lower the price a bit now that more people have shown interest. Thanks guys!
Anyone else interested? Let's see how low we can go. :)

These are interesting enough...
Like vasta41 when i saw these cards i too thought of the Italian cards. It made me smile when i read that the artist put a high price on the deck because of all the work she put in. The arrangement of the clubs on the number cards are more or less the same..so no effort there..and the courts
You should invite her to the forum and show her RJ Tomlinson`s "Titanic "Thread...Now THAT`S Effort...

But saying that..still interesting and the more the merrier, so i`ll be interested in one (Two, if the price were right somewhere around the price Sher suggested)

I must "Tip My Cap" to you Eoghann once again...for taking time out to actively seek out these decks that i for one would never have been aware of. And for bringing them to UC members so we all can enjoy.....Thanks :D

Interesting. I really like the tuck. If she goes down to $20 I'd be in. I can't afford more than that right now.

Same here. I've bought way too much lately, but that tuck is really, really nice. The courts are neat too, the pips are just kinda eh though. Definitely a cool find though.

I would be in if the price is not more than $25.
Can't reason paying more than that. I like the look, but like most am almost full up on Day of the Dead decks.

Been nagging her all weekend. Tried to get her down to $20. But she's not budging lower than $25 right now.

Right now she's been pretty adamant that 25 would be the next price break. But I doubt we'll reach that many.

I'd definitely be in 100% at $20, but at $25 I'd still probably buy

As an artist I have to +1 her for not devaluing her artwork, regardless of what some card collectors think deck prices should be.

Well, I'm not an artist but I would think that once something with artwork on it is mass-produced the discussion isn't just about the value of the artwork anymore. Original pieces I wouldn't dare say anything about, but picking up a bunch of rocks and digitally printing stuff on them doesn't increase their value. Of course, that's not to say she's not entitled to set the price at whatever she wants, I'm just saying it doesn't make much sense to me.

Actually, a high quality digitally printed rock (if the technology existed) would carry a much higher price than the original rock.

Says who, though? Sure, some people would buy a rock (there's always some), but I don't think it would be financially sound. Things are only worth what people are willing to pay for it.

Btw, you might want to get into a habit of putting in a humble "IMO" every now and then, stating opinions like facts (even though that might not be your intention) isn't very popular on the interwebz ;)

Is this made as a statement of fact? Is this just your opinion? Maybe an "IMO" is in order? Maybe a virgin should be sacrificed to keep the Internet minders happy?

Interesting deck but not really my thing the numbering is a bit weird.
Wish the courts were reversible as well. Still interesting work though.

I wanted a little more info on the quality of the cards. Her reply:
Type: Poker sized blank cards
Number of cards per deck: 40 cards
Dimensions: 63.5mm x 88.9mm, 2.5" x 3.5" (poker size)
Material options: 300gsm premium quality card stock with blue core (smooth finish)
Packaging: Custom-printed tuck box
So it's cool that's they're poker size. Should fit in a display just fine. Traditional Spanish cards are more narrow and taller.
I also asked her for more pictures and she said she'd send them soon.

I think this'll be the final week and I'll close off the list and get a final tally. Then I'll organize and collect the money and place the order. :)

So far I have:

Me
decibelhz
Sher: (?)*
PrincessTrouble
chach
Jock1971
Widdee
DragonSoul: (?)*
charlie81dbz: (?)*
UtterFool
Firthetic
SeabornLoyalis

(?)* I'd need confirmation if you guys and gals are in.

Everyone else I'd need to know how many decks you'd want. Right now I assume 1 deck.

Thanks again!
