Hi everyone- So, I've been monitoring this thread, and I see the general consensus in very positive, with of course is pending on price. We had wagered that most of the collectors would want more then 1 display, so that they can put up their entire collection, so we're REALLY working to keep that in mind. We are diligently trying to nail down a price for these so that we can launch them, and we have a target price in mind that we think is right were it needs to be, but my question is, without knowing any "in-the-weeds" details, what would you all think is a fair price? Keep in mind, that some of the answers may not be realistic given the materials, die-molds, etc..., but I'm really curious :D

Is it too ambitious to say $50 without shipping?

This display system is more practical for showing off and highlighting special decks only instead of displaying every deck in your collection right down to $2 Bikes. I wish you could some how make this system more modular, this way you can break it down to show just a few decks, or add on to display however many you want instead of being locked into 10 or 15. I would imagine shipping would be much less as well because you won't have these long rails to deal with, especially with the 15 deck option.

Why are the display options fixed at 10 and 15 anyways? It would seem to me that a 6 and 12 deck configuration would be more intuitive and practical for most collectors.

I would look at it as price per deck to display as the base, then add a premium for features.

A basic shelf or the nail polish stands (or other re purposed options) can be had for VERY cheap, but off no protection and not a very tidy solution so excluding those from the comparison.

A DIY shadowbox can be done for about $30 for all materials and a few hours of work. While everybody's value for time and skill level varies I think it's safe to say these are worth about $60 especially when similar premade units can be bought for this price, but are often made for other memorabilia so not a perfect fit. Holding 30 decks that is $2/deck for a simple enclosed case that is only wall mounted and not perfect quality or fit.

The cases from CPC are 24/$60 and 60/$130 or $2.50/deck and $2.17/deck. Again these are enclosed and wall mounted, but better quality and fit.

This product is custom designed for cards and a wall or table located display with either flip or rotating ability. The decks are also better self contained. That's all worth well over the cost of the above options, but how much more? 2x, 3x? Considering you also will need more total space per deck to use these, I would think $5/deck for the 10 unit configuration is about right (2x next best option) or $50. In the 15 deck configuration that would be $3.30/deck if sold at $50. So yeah, I would think $50 or under is ideal and anything over $75 is too high. Of course all comparisons are without shipping, but it's something.

ecNate, that is a very well thought out answer! Thanks for that!

Sinjin, I'd like to respond to a few of your thoughts. So, in regards to shipping and the "15 deck option", the way we have engineered the display is that the 10 and 15 rack use the same exact components as each other. We did this to keep production cost down, and to allow collectors the option to mix and match. All components are completely interchangeable.

In other words, if you buy the Orbiter, you can pick which display style, 10-360° or 15-flip, you setup when you're actually setting it up. The long back piece (frame) has hole configurations that allow for either setup, and the "nipple" piece switches depending on which setup you chose to go with. If you reference the pics CBJ uploaded, you'll notice that the 10 layout and 15 layout are exactly the same in dimensions. The only difference is which holes are being utilized and the direction the nipple is facing. Make sense?

To your point, we also did this thinking that collectors would maybe want to show off their really rare decks in a few 10 deck-360° layout, but then switch to a 15 deck layout for their not-so rare remaining decks, therefore reducing the amount of racks they needed to purchase to display their entire set. And, I believe someone mentioned this on Discourse, but we added the functional expanders (feet) between the sets, so that they would seamlessly expand and line up making them modular and expandable, but also add the functionality for table top display if someone would like to call out a handful of REALLY rare items on their office/home.

Unfortunately, having a display limited down to a onsie/twosie setup, and having that modular and expandable isn't cost effective and structurally sound. You would have to integrate some form of support system and interlocking plastic expanders that would equate to more money and a higher price tag. Additionally, we were banking on collectors having more then a few decks. Hence the 10/15 layout versus some other configuration. Just curious, why does 6/12 make more sense in regards to collecting/displaying to you?

We really concentrated on the footprint of these, so that people would be able to display a large amount of decks, without taking up too much wall space. We're REALLY excited about this project and think it's a step in a right direction, so we're not all cutting off limbs in order to build something. :)

Regarding the 6/12 - well its a half brick and a brick :D
i like the 10/15 - with 15 you can actually display all Ornate Decks (4x the original decks, 4x the white ornates, 4x bicycle branded ornates, 1x Obsidian,1x bicycle branded Obsidian, 1x Pack Jacket.
;) 8)

If you could manage to provide the 15 deck display, with cases, for $30, I'd buy 30 units.... I have over 1000 decks, and probably 600 of them would be considered "rare" or "unique"

As Cosmicsecret already answered, the quantities reflect a brick and half a brick. A lot of decks are designed in pairs, so an even numbered configuration seemed to make more sense than 15. I agree that a smaller unit modular system may be more structurally compromised, but I was thinking more in terms of ease of shipping and shipping costs, as well as more customizable configurations such as a 3x3 or even a ring.

If you price these correctly, you might have a massive hit on your hands.

Sinjin has a very good point regarding shipping. Internationals may not be the biggest, but definitely make up a substantial part of the card collecting community. I'm secretly waiting for someone to make an IKEA style display case, because 99% of display cases will hit us with an insane shipping charge.

Ecnate's assessment is pretty close to spot on IMO. But I think Rickard's comment here illustrates a good point to add to it. Will a slightly lower price add enough units sold to make the same or even higher margins? Case in point. At $50 each I would likely get 4 or 5. At $30 each I would get 8 or 10. Too much math after work! :ugking:

IMO, with them being a little smaller and I figure they'll have a much higher funding goal and give a bit of a break for basically preorders, these will be $60-$70 shipped.

louizz,

How are the decks held in there? I assume by friction against either the side component or between the front faces . If so, how well does that tolerate differing tuck sizes/materials?

Have you considered selling the deck boxes on their own, so that people could make their own shelves with the appropriate spacing and holes? (I'm no DIY-er, but screwing two boards together xmm apart after drilling some holes in the right spot is something I could probably handle :-))

Whilst I like your design, both the limited sizing and the expected international shipping costs probably make it out of my price range.

Great question! The deck holder portion utilizes what are known as leaf springs that are actually built into the molded frame. They suspend the box centered to the deck frame and have some give, and hug the deck box in place. As far as other sizes, it will allow for a few small variant sizes to be used in the "standard" frame, but we have been talking about potentially offering various size display options that would all fit into the standard sized display we're created. We'd just have varying display pieces available. Hopefully this makes sense, lol

Also, yes, we will be selling the box portion on their own. Not so much for the DIY-ers, although that works too, but so that people can have spares should they opt to go from a 10 to a 15 layout down the road.

Addressing the International portion- we don't want to alienate any of our friends based off of where you're located, and I can promise that we are trying to get a number that works for EVERYONE. Naturally, shipping will raise that price up for sure, but the goal is to get the price point low enough so that that additional shipping fee is less impactful.

Someone nailed it on the head though, lower price per item = higher funded goal. :D

I don't think the funding goal is high. These will be injection molded pieces and lots of them. That's a lot of tooling, mold making, etc and plastic for high quality parts isn't cheap either. I hope it's not cheap plastic that you have to air out for a week lol. The funding goal isn't bad at all in my opinion. Wonder why there's no Orbiter deck though. :P
TL:DR It's completely up to you.

I have no clue what you're talking about.... :D
Cbkimble wrote:I was gonna pledge for 1 or 2 but $10 US shipping get the hell out of here.
You are CORRECT for not backing that. That would be ludicrous, and you my friend are smarter then 10 other folks out there. When I was creating that pledge I was distracted by my kids, and I screwed it... It was supposed to be $10 FLAT- US, and $12- International. I have since gone in and messaged those backers and closed that tier, and created a corrected tier. Please take a look again, and reconsider :)
