Lol, this deck cracks me up! This was the exact back design of the cards I used for Solitaire and Hearts on my computer back in the day. I think you could've chosen between a number of different back designs, but I always liked the beach scene. As much as I'd like to have this nostalgic memento of times past, I don't think I'll be coughing up $20.00 per deck. Too bad......

I was about to jump on this immediately!!! Such an interesting deck... then I saw that $20.00!!! I don't think the original version of Windows 3.0 cost that much...

And shipping is over $6 for one deck so it really costs about $26 for a deck.

Ah, but is the back animated?

IIRC, Some of the card backs in that version had (limited) animation.

For example, one card back was an image of a man's hand, holding several playing cards.

Every x number of seconds/minutes, an Ace card would pop out of the man's sleeve, then disappear again.

It seems like there was a similar animation for the beach scene back, but if so, I hyave forgotten what it was.

And shouldn't the box it comes in be the dark blue box shown in the game's icon?

If it were more reasonably priced (say, $5), it would be cool if there were several versions, each with a different one of the selectable backs from the original.

Cool retro idea, regardless!

ETA: I think I just remembered the animation on the beach scene back:

Every x seconds, the sun became a smiley face!

Actually it does say it's printed by USPCC, on linen card :?: Probably just a new name for air cushion. Very limited edition of 500 may be what is driving the price. Still too high.

Evan Roth is a pretty great contemporary artist. And since these are printed by USPCC and also limited to 500, I bought myself 2. A good one to add to the collection -- and in my opinion, better looking than most decks coming out lately. Nostalgia doesn't come cheap!

I'd agree with this. Tried to get a couple but the site doesn't seem to do international properly (and shipping would probably be a killer). Ah well.

I want one, even at that price.

It will make a nice companion deck to one I have where the suits have been replaced by icons from the Mac OS.

I have had no luck with ordering the solitaire.exe deck, though.

First, I find no way to create an account. And plugging my email address in and clicking "Log In" just results in an error message.

I tried the "Forgot your Password?" link, and took the resulting "Send me a temporary password" option, but have received no email from them.

I have added the deck to my Cart there, but have found no "Check Out" option.

stumbled into a screen for entering Payment information, but I need to use PayPal, and although PayPal is mentioned in a graphic next to the Payment Method field, it is not listed in the drop-down menu for the Payment Method.

I have sent them an email about all of this, and hope to get it sorted out.

These are freakin' awesome, But it's a good thing for me I got here after they sold out. No matter how cool, $20 (+Shipping) a Deck is just too much and I know I would buy one and soon after wish I hadn't.

Wow, surprised that deck sold out that quickly... The collector senses in me are now tingling... oh well, I added myself to the notification list... still.... $20/deck... tough pill to swallow (even after adding shipping)

I got this deck in the mail today. The cards are definitely printed on Linen USPCC cards. Nice smooth finish, slides easily. Printing is as you would expect -- nothing special to report.

The only real letdown for me was the box. It clearly was packaged independently from the USPCC. The box is simply folded cardstock and feels cheap. But I suppose its the inside cards that count, and those don't disappoint. I really do love the Windows Solitaire throwback.

If anybody cares, I've posted some photos here: http://www.doobybrain.com/2012/11/21/so ... evan-roth/.

Very cool doobybrain,

I might just have to pony up the cash and get one of those decks... they are pretty original and signed/numbered to bat... :D

Hi, db!

I sent you an email a few months ago (as RSLancastr@aol.com) about one of your blog entries (regarding the 2008 Election Edition Bikes). Or perhaps it was just a blog comment.

Regardless, thanks for posting what you do.
