Yes, so the hearts are oriented one way, while the spades and clubs are oriented the other way.

As for the bird man's butt being upside down... what matters is not the orientation on the lower half of the card, but the upper half of the card, for the reasons previously stated (fanning, how it looks when you first pull it out of the box, etc.)

Look at a traditional bicycle deck. Top half of the back: the bicycle is right-side up. Bottom half, it is upside down.

Yes, but people keep pasting cards from RongoRongo 1 campaign into RongoRongo 2 at other thread and comment on lack of consistency using incorrect pictures.
There are too many wrong pictures at the other location creating a high level of confusion without any sense or reason.

RongoRongo 2 is a completely redesigned deck and the pictures above are the correct ones.
I believe we should keep them here as a separate campaign and discuss RongoRongo 2 with the correct set of cards.

The threads should not have been merged.
The title is also incorrect -- RongoRongo is NOT a Bicycle deck

Rouselle -- you are looking at wrong cards.
Please refer to RongoRongo 2 cards, your pictures are incorrect.

You are absolutely correct about the butts. Birdman, however, is drawn in a specific manner, typically "upside down."
The current position is consistent with the way Birdman is illustrated on rocks throughout the Easter Island.
Your comments about the orientation are absolutely correct, they just don't apply to this specific figure.

Tomas calm down a second. We kept the new project starting on page 3 in the same thread so that people can follow up with their comments, ideas and compare pics. I agree that sopme pics were missing but one thread is enopugh for this deck. I will change the title so that it matches your current project

I think tomas has a valid point. jerichoholic should at least change his starting post to at least this. badpete69 can you help him and change the title. It sucks when you have to fish for the current Kickstarter.... The first post is out of date.

My god would you guys read the entire thread We have a banner on page 3. When a deck relaunches soon after the first one failed we keep it in the same thread so that we can compare easily the improvements. WE all are aware that this relaunched as 5 second after he went live the banner was up

You are making a valid point badpete69. I think we have enough of a buffer between two campaigns with new pictures to clarify what campaign we run now, so one thread should be fine.
The campaign we run now is:

Rouselle is looking at the right cards, your hearts is oriented the other way. This simply creates confusion because the spades and hearts are almost identical especially if they are both black in some of the decks. But meh, do what you want, I don't want to use my "loaded" language.

Tomas:

I'm looking at your most recent pics (as volantangel has pointed out). Look at the center of the Queen of Hearts. There are two hearts there. Are they standing up, with their tops away from the center, or are they standing in the other direction, with their tops at the center?

Now, look at the center of King of Spades. The two spades there in the center: are they standing up away from the center, or are they standing in the other direction, with their tops at the center?

rousselle,

the composition was built around pointed parts of hearts & spades to the outside. i did both versions of the orientation (one as per your description) and the current one is much more visually consistent. the visual consistency was more important to me than the rules you describe, but maybe we should revisit this subject with backers so they can vote for the option they prefer. if they feel strongly about reversing the orientation I'll find a solution to do that. I'll put it to the vote in a few days.

as to confusing hears with spades… they follow a different color scheme and pips in the margins are quite traditional. we played with prototypes of the decks for a while and I have never heard anyone voicing any confusion about the suits.

Project now cancelled

Hi BackersBackers,

First of all a huge thank you for staying around after update #10; I am humbled by such a vote of confidence and I am truly grateful to see such support.

A few days ago USPCC revised their long standing policy of minimum requirements from 2,500 decks to 1,000 decks. That changes everything. Projects like this one, which required $8.5K per one deck just to break-even, can now be moved back to the USA and printed at their state-of-the-art facilities.

There are many card collectors who expressed their interest in our decks but they only collect USPCC decks. I hope to see them backing this project in the future.

It is too late to reset this campaign to USPCC. We are going to suspend this campaign and we will come back, for the very last time, on October 7th with RongoRongo 3 printed by USPCC, including Bicycle branding, with a lower pledge goal.

If we are successful, we will all enjoy the highest quality cards from USPCC; if not, it will not be for the lack of trying.

My deepest thanks to Mike Kabala, our BIRDMAN, for his great sense of humor and his support for this campaign. The craftsmanship of his wooden boxes is truly amazing.

I hope to see you back in 2 weeks.

Thank you
Tomas

Now this will be interesting. Campaign #2 was on the razor's thin edge of not funding... campaign #1 didn't come close... now let's see exactly what USPC printing & Bicycle branding bring to the table since we have a decent metric on the interest of these Rongo Rongo decks when not printed by USPC.

@tomas - Make the changes you need to make. Make sure everything is 100%. I'm guessing your going to relaunch and use USPCC's the new 1000 deck minimum. I read somewhere "Private Reserve"? Maybe you could fit that in there with a tuck swap; However, I heard the minimum is 1000 for a tuck swap. (1000, 1500) 2500 deck minimum for Bike stock, but that might be lower too. Might be a good question for Tiffany.

Your base price per deck is $13. Ballpark?

@Sprouts- you're advice around this forum is great! You should start charging... Seriously, you could be a "custom playing card consultant" 8-)

You can't "give sprouts ideas". That's like trying to give light to the sun.
