They've got the red reprint. Nice. I wasn't around for those way back when.

So, is there any info on how Gamblers Warehouse came about reprinting a design of Russells?

Has Russell been paid for the design, or does he get a cut from the proceeds of this?

Especially considering the he is still owing many (including myself) rewards from the Quicksilver campaign?

Whilst Russell hasn't antagonised everyone as much as his mate Adam (yep, still waiting for the refund there too), I still feel unease about pledging for this.

That's a good question. Heaven forbid Russell is crawling out of the woodwork and has anything to do with this project revival. I sure hope he sold the rights.

I'm sure Russell sold the rights to allow GW to print these, and if he did, that means he should have the funds to finish refunding all those people to which CCC still owes money. Luckily, I got my refund from Adam, but I'm shocked to hear some people still haven't received their refunds yet even after all this time has passed.

+100

Definitely making me second guess my plans to pledge. Outrageous to know that people are still owed money for Quicksilver as well!

I'm sure this deck was planned months ago, which means Russell received his payment for the rights months ago as well, at a minimum!

And i take it that no one has heard a peep from him about refunds???

This is from my understanding of this situation, GW bought the artwork from CCC from way back when they were still in business and contactable. However even GW cant get a hold of Russ and Co. Im still waiting for a miracle that the mailman will deliver my quicksilvers.

Wait, so if GW is reprinting a CCC deck, which suggests that they now have some form of rights to CCC decks...

...why not ACTUALLY MAKE THE ARMY MEN DECK???

I would LOVE to see that happen! But it was my understanding that it was a minute detail that he had to change, maybe just the name. But he didn't because he was too busy honeymooning... ;)

FYI that last part is obviously speculation.

Yeah all GW is mainly doing is reprints of other decks. The Dragon Backs weren't bad, the Skulls sure are a let down and unnecessary, and now the Brimstones? They are so embarrassed by the Skulls that they actually launched them under a separate account on KS.

Yes Russell was paid for the artwork in April. He promised to send us all the files but did not and stopped responding to our emails once paid.
We were able to get the original artwork from USPC after showing them the contract and payment receipts.
Russell has nothing to do with this project and has no connection at all with Gamblers Warehouse.

We are not the Kings of recolors. We have other major players in the market who started this.
We have a group of talented designers who have been able to provide us with successful projects like Double Black, Occults & Blackout Kingdom.
Looking forward to our next project Bicycle Steampunk Bandits which is no doubt a very cool design by one of our best artist.

First of all, yes you are. Just own the title.

Second of all, you misunderstand my tone. I LOVE y'all's work. Seriously. The recolors, to me, make some of these decks MORE desirable than the previous ones.

Exhibit A, the Dragon Backs. (Don't have these yet.)

Exhibit B, the Skull backs. (Pledged and cant friggin WAIT to get em.)

Exhibit C, Brimstone. Not so intriguing with the standard work... but that teal, with the gold accents? Yo....

Which brings me to my last point, Purple Quicksilvers.... Doooo it, Dooo it, Dooo it!

Talking about recolors i would say ellusionist started this fad with recoloring 1 design 4-5 times with no other changes at all. USPCC did the same with their standard & rider backs recolors, club tatoos, distressed expert back , theory11 did with Monarchs etc.
What we did is better than just a recolor using mettalic inks on the cards makes it look much better in real.
Have a look at it and decide for yourself. We are using foils on tucks on Brimstone not just a color swap like others.
Another example in front of everyone is Jackson Civil War decks. You can buy those way cheaper from USPCC but just the foiled tucks and seal make them limited and expensive.
We are in the retail business as well and we also have to buy these recolors because of demand.

We do own the rights of Quicksilver as well. But Russell again got the money and never returned with the artwork. We can still get it from USPCC.
We do not print like others do and restrict quantities to barely minimum qty of 2500 decks.
Our President when got to know that Russell did not fulfill rewards for Quicksilver and knowing we own the rights after paying him he suggested to offer all the backers who lost their money 50 percent off on Quicksilver remake is they have a proof but we still did not finalize it.

if you think we own the title of King of recolors then its just because we have done it better than others not that we have done 6 different madison colors lol

That would be a pretty cool thing to do. Sounds like something that would benefit everyone, and I'm sure such an act of goodwill would bring in more business for you. Probably more than enough to cover the 50% you'd "lose" on doing so. Of course, there's no way of quantifying that so I would understand if you decide not to. But it would be pretty cool ;)

Wow. I am appalled that Russell stiffed you guys on the artwork. I had always been under the impression that his stiffing people was just the result of bad business planning, but this? This sounds like he's just outright scum.

I realize that maybe he was hit by a bus just after he cashed your check, or maybe he had yet another grandmother fall down the stairs, and funeral planning has been a real bitch... but when you combine this with all of his previous transgressions, it sounds more like this is the person he has become, rather than the person we originally hoped he was.

Wow.

Did you guys (GW) pick up the rights to any of his other designs, like Americana? What about other CCC designs that were not Russell's, like Revision 1 or The Green Army Men by Adam C.? I'd love to get my hands on the copyright-sanitized version of that deck, but there's no way any more of my money will ever flow Adam's way.

Nor, given what I read here, will any of it ever flow Russell's.

(In the interest of full disclosure: I, too, am owed fifty bucks by Adam for the Army Men deck. I'm impressed that Sinjin got his refund; he's the only person I know who did.)

That said, I'll back the new Brimstone's with a clear conscience. GW is good people, as the saying goes. They bought the rights fair and square. Shame on Russell (and Adam) for his (their) behavior.

I'm not going to defend anyone involved in the whole CCC mess that it turned into, however for the record I guess I should mention that I received all of the decks (Quicksilver, Brimstone, Americana, Revision 1) I pledged for and the refund for the Army deck so at least in my case they did come through. That doesn't make it up for those who got burnt, but there's that.

Nothing that changes the fact that they both seem to be impossible to track down and that they seem to have screwed a lot of buyers out of their money/decks and apparently Gambler's Warehouse out of the design files as well though. Glad at least those were recovered.
Yes, I might be the guy you remember from that thing at that place way back when.

Guys and Gals: I foresaw this as a possible firestorm, and GW sent me the contract. It _was_ signed back in April, and even I tried to intercede on their behalf only to find that Russell K does not even respond.

He used to, especially if you bought a deck from CCCC. If I were you, I would not even think about it at this point, but all of Eddie's points are perfectly valid, as are those people here make. We all can't throw stones when we know that GW did what they thought was sound only to find - like many of us did - that it was just a money grab by Russell - yet again. You would think that once he got his money he would at least deliver - but obviously that is not the case. Russell and Adam are both likely not to be heard from in this mess. I used to think - way back about December that there was hope. There is none.

I actually got my refund for Army Men as well and was lcuky enough to get the Quicksilver deck.

I do hope any Brimstone decks that are printed are clearly marked as v.2 in some way.

I'm not surprised. I'm sure Russell gave him a refund because Sinjin is basically the squeaky wheel.

I do like the idea of having some sorta version 2 on the box. Hmm, if it's the same design with no changes, but just a reprint then It makes more sense just to put the year 2014 on the box.

I am surprised he has the category "Games" on his Kickstarter. YOu can get lost real quick with the mountain of games. He should have made it "Playing Cards" I'm pretty sure he can change it. I saw Jackson change his from "Design" to "Graphic Design" before he canceled his.
