What is the name of the mat/sheet thing that you put on a table to play cards?
Can you buy them?

Close-up Pads? Yes, you can buy them. I'll leave it to someone else to provide links to the best/cheapest ones though.

Aren't close up pads namely for magicians as they're usually too small to even play a game of solitaire on.

Mostly, but there are plenty of table moves used by cardists and gamblers (or someone who demonstrates gambling moves). They come in lots of different sizes, the one I have I would think it big enough to play solitaire on (it's in most of the photos on my failed wiki).chach wrote:Aren't close up pads namely for magicians as they're usually too small to even play a game of solitaire on.

I've heard them called play mats. They are similar to a mouse pad but larger and much thinner.
Use your search engine and look up "card playmats".

Yup, they sell them for Magic The Gathering, definitely big enough to play solitare on. Should cost $20-$30.Cbkimble wrote:I've heard them called play mats. They are similar to a mouse pad but larger and much thinner.

Are playmants correct?
Or are you looking for something more like a casino card table top?
In that case, perhaps something like this basic green felt would work:
http://www.amazon.com/Plain-Green-Table ... B005G4GKF4" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
You can find this material in a variety of shapes and sizes - preprinted with certain layouts if you like.
These often have foam under them, so you may want to find a padded variety if the plain felt won't work for you.

If we are thinking of the same thing they are also know as playmats (as mentioned above). I use them for playing my trading card games. They come in a variety of shapes, sizes and designs. You can even customize your own on some sites. If you sniff around Gameboardgeek.com you can see some cool ones.
