Wait one moment. LPCC, but 3 different decks and only a 12k goal ?

Edit: Oh wait, there are also offering acrylic cards, and a coin. I dont recall the last metropol cards making him that much money.

I liked and backed the first deck, but these just don't pass the bar for me. Going from black to white took away something that made them unique IMO.

I liked the originals quite a bit, but three different white decks (all 1,000 deck prints) just appears to be throwing a whole of rareness against a wall and hoping enough of it sticks.
Only 1000 copies of each deck in the LUX series will be printed meaning they will be true collector's items!
If this has been one great white deck I'd undoubtedly have got a few, but as a collector, I guess I'm meant to have a minimum buy of $36 just to get one of each. Hmm, no.

This regularly available 1,000 deck run thing is really challenging any 'must buy a rare deck' tendencies I once had.....

badpete69, thanks for sharing my project! I'm really happy to get this project out there and to see the response from everyone!

volantangel my Metropol NOX campaign raised just under $13,000. :D Since I'm based in Canada and the production needs American funds the prices tend to be higher than average. The Canadian dollar is worth about 10% less than the American dollar at the moment so I need to be able to cover the conversion rate.

MagikFingerz, first thank you for backing the NOX deck. I really appreciate it! I respect your opinion on the LUX deck. A few months back a friend pushed me to try a white version of NOX. I was skeptical at first, but when I had a sample deck printed I actually really liked it. Playing card can be a pretty subjective thing and not every design is going to please everyone. :)

Gareth I can understand your point of view as a collector. My intent was never to introduce a number of rare decks, but to introduce variety to appeal to a number of different groups. I had a lot of card players saying they wished there was a 2-colour deck available so that they could more easily use my deck with their games. A lot of poker players alternate between two different colour decks to ensure their games are fair. If I had done each deck as a 2500 run with USPCC the minimum amount I'd have to raise to get funded would probably be more than I could manage. I'm still pretty much unknown in the world of playing card design and it's obvious my designs so far have gotten a mixed reaction. More than anything I went with LPCC to get a lower minimum order so that the goal of producing all 3 decks was more achievable. A result of that which I never considered was that it makes the new decks much more rare than my previous one. It's something I will definitely consider next time.

I really do appreciate the feedback everyone. My goal is to learn and grow as a playing card designer and I can only do that with feedback from people like you!

Thanks for coming by and answering some queries Mike, it is always great to see designers discussing their creations.

I however find your reasoning somewhat incongruous/flawed. To say that you hadn't considered that the 1000 deck runs make your decks rare is perfectly argued by the text I quoted on your Kickstarter listing "Only 1000 copies of each deck [...] will be printed meaning they will be true collector's items!".

It would appear that you're actually attempting to make lemonade out of the realism that you're unlikely to sell more - and in the process trying to appeal to both the card players and collectors. Of course, this is perfectly fine - but I don't believe we need the spin here.

Whilst I completely agree with a 2 deck setup for Poker, the majority of home Poker tournaments I know use 100% plastic cards - we generally choose between KEM and Copag, but there are whole legions with differing allegiances out there. Likewise I couldn't deny that many may like a nice, simple design such as yours, but the limited lifetime of paper decks - as well as the regular index faces you've included - suggest to me that home poker tournaments are a limited market for these decks.

Best of luck with it in any case. :)

@OtsegoDoom - You will probably make your Kickstater. 3 different decks that are functional? Wow! That's a lot for a minimalist deck. Note the irony. Have fun...

I'm not not convinced with the financials for this campaign, 3 decks and a heck load of add ons, surely a 12k CAD goal is not enough..

these look more like cards that would appeal to flourishers and card jugglers... (are we calling them Card Monkeys?) but I am a sucker for 'simple done well,' so I am in for half a brick

I actually jumped on for the early bird brick. I like the white versions quite a bit, possibly more than the original (the standard red/black colors just look nice with this minimal design imo). I still prefer USPCC to EPCC but both are perfectly fine for me since I just collect for the most part. Also, Mike ran his last project very well and was really helpful and polite to deal with when I wanted to add some extras to my pledge after the project ended. And actually sent out all the right stuff when he shipped everything. I really appreciate when the project creator goes that extra mile and out of the many decks and other projects I've helped to fund, that's not super common. This is really close to funding and hope it stays close to what kicktraq shows so I can add these decks to my (over?)growing collection.

charlie :)
