the translucent back is pretty cool but this doesn't even come close to peaking my interest. any idea when we'll get to see courts?

Not big on the watermark look on the back but I'm interested in seeing how it develops.

Hello everyone. Thanks for the invite to join the thread. Glad to be here.
The back design will not have the watermark when printed. That was the first photo of the back shared publicly so I added a faint watermark.

The colors remind me of the NY Jets-etters. This deck better have amazing courts to carry the rather pedestrian back design.

Re: Jetsetter Playing Cards - Coming soon to KS
Hi everyone. Thought I would give a quick summary of... why Jetsetter Playing Cards.
When I was a kid, I became infactuated with aviation. I remember my dad taking me to the airport to watch the airplanes takeoff and land. My first job out of college was even at Gulfstream Aerospace. In addition, I have always loved using playing cards... your typical family games. When I got older, I started getting into poker and cards tricks.
With that said, in April of 2013, I brought an idea of a deck of playing cards to an old collegue of mine from Apple. I sketched up some ideas and mocked them up in Photoshop. He's more of the artistic and detailed individual - does amazing work. I'm more of the minimalistic individual - picked that up from my time at Apple. Anyway, the first thing I showed him was the initial back design and the layout of the court cards that I envisioned for our deck. We discussed the entire deck and started on it right away. We worked on the deck and the overall plan for about 10 months, even going back and forth with USPCC... right when we were hitting the final strides to complete the deck and initiate the Kickstarter, Paul Roman Martinez released The Flight Deck. That was the very same name of our deck and the same theme (side note: we were going to name our deck The Flight Deck because of its double meaning... the cockpit is called the flight deck and it was a deck of playing cards based on flight). Our courts and style were much different to his. We had a unique style of courts established with an entire plan established behind them and the deck itself. It was going to be very unique deck of cards based on flight. However, Paul Roman Martinez did an amazing job with his deck. I even backed his Kickstarter. But since he reached the "market" before us, we decided to step back and look at the second deck we had planned (hold that thought).
This now takes me to the Jetsetter Playing Cards. The very first back design I presented to my collegue was based on something I have always associated to watching airplanes takeoff and land at the airport and my job right out of college. Airport signs. They are simple, sleek, and familiar. I always remember driving by them before reaching the airport. Brought me excitement. I had causually worked on numerous playing card backs based on airport signs in the last 14-15 months. When we decided to change direction on our deck, I decided to take my original idea and go solo on Jetsetter Playing Cards. After looking at all the back designs / patterns I created, I decided to tweak a few and narrow it down and try and make it a reality. You'll notice the green color is closely related to the same color of those airport signs you see.
I know many do not dig the simple approach and would rather see more intricate designs but this is something that is dear to me... in both the aviation side of me and playing card side of me. (back to that held thought) My collegue and I are also working on a deck that was going to be the follow up to our first deck... but I wanted to go solo with the Jetsetter Playing Cards.
Well, that's my story.

I know I'm one of the few but I really like a good minimal design. I also really like the backs and the tuck box. Can't wait to see more.

Re: Jetsetter Playing Cards - Coming soon to KS
Thanks! The back design was created to support a marking system too. In addition, I have added a "secret" within the cards to assist in finding a placed reward or two from the Kickstarter. I have not decided if I am going to use either the marking system or the "secret" yet.

Re: Jetsetter Playing Cards - Coming soon to KS
Would the marking system be so you could tell the card or is it something where you can only tell one thing about the card (i.e. the suit)? With such a clean design it would seem to be hard to put in a full on marking system.

It would be used to identify the entire card (e.g., Ace of Spades, Eight of Clubs).

He never showed what the courts or number cards look like and this is supposed to be a fully custom deck.

I don't mean to be cruel, but all this deck does is make me wish that the Flight Deck ships soon.

I agree! I like to read books but for a KS project, show me the pics! I now see that he likes to collect custom decks than to play with them. I'm spoiled by KS that I'm not that much into standard decks anymore. The backs look good but that's it.

Paul says in his campaign...I'm in for now but if i dont see courts or pips by the end, I'll cancel.
the playing cards will be printed with a custom Ace of Spades, custom Jokers, and Arrco® standard faces allowing the deck to hold the traditional functionality of the cards. This is important. Why? The majority of backers want to see a fully custom deck of playing cards. I know this, but I want to see this deck of playing cards used by cardists, collectors, magicians, and the everyday card player. I want people to take this deck with them everywhere.

Re: Jetsetter Playing Cards - Now live on KS
What I don't get, is why must there be a row of planes going in the horizontal direction, it's an easy tweak to make the number of top and bottom rows equal to eliminate this middle row.
Or even better, let the planes alternate between up and down in the diagonal rows, this would make the back design look more complete(can't think of a better word) and not look segregated.

Good question, but he mentions that in the campaign....What I don't get, is why must there be a row of planes going in the horizontal direction, it's an easy tweak to make the number of top and bottom rows equal to eliminate this middle row.
With this specific design, you will find that it intentionally draws your eyes to the center of the pattern. This is because of the potential of releasing an additional marked version of the Jetsetter Playing Cards in the future.

Re: Jetsetter Playing Cards - Now live on KS
The reason for the current design is to draw you from the marking system I developed for this deck. However, the design is not required for a successful marked back. It just aids in the proper focus.
I really dig the diagonal design idea. I am going to try it out and see how it works. For the mean time, here is the design that was runner up to the current design:
Let me know what you think.
