Not me!

I'm not into devil worshiping and killing little kittens as a sacrifice by the full moon surrounded by six naked dark souls clothed only with blood from last nights feast as we repeat "natas pihsrow" and "uoy sevol natas" to the sound of symbols playing in the key of satan while sipping from the communal silver cup filled with our blood. No..... Not.....into.....it.......at.......all......

Gnosticism is a bit different Norbie. Here are a couple of things to read to show you it doesn't have to deal with what you are describing.

http://gnosis.org/gnintro.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

and from wikipedia:

Gnosticism (from gnostikos, "learned", from Ancient Greek: γνῶσις gnōsis, knowledge) describes a collection of ancient religions that taught that people should shun the material world created by the demiurge and embrace the spiritual world.[1] Gnostic ideas influenced many ancient religions[2] that teach that gnosis (variously interpreted as knowledge, enlightenment, salvation, emancipation or 'oneness with God') may be reached by practicing philanthropy to the point of personal poverty, sexual abstinence (as far as possible for hearers, completely for initiates) and diligently searching for wisdom by helping others.[3] However, practices varied among those who were Gnostic.

Thanks for the info, I saw the word "occult" and I jumped to conclusions.

I didn't connect Gnostic with "Gnostic Bible", which I'm a bit embarrassed.

The backs reminded me of Lorenzo's Heretic. Obviously not as good though. :)

Stuart made some comments on Discourse and posted a new pic

Hello, I'm glad to see the interest here in the Gnostic Deck. This is a deck I designed with the mystery entertainer in mind. I'll also be releasing a book with all the bells and whistles and some ideas for routines and readings done with the deck when we launch.

We don't have an official launch date yet, printing will be completed at the end of this month, and then they ship to NYC. So the release date will be sometime this summer, I'll keep you informed. Sorry for the confusion in the date, at first I misunderstood how fast the turnaround would be, but we also had to make some changes in the printing and paper to get them at the highest quality possible. (and the press went through a move which slowed things down.)

The Gnostic Deck will be the first deck with two metallic foil colours in the tuck design. The tuck boxes are a high quality matte paper with a gold foil interior. It's extra impressive when you open the box. The card stock is the same used in the second edition of the Legend deck, so as far as I am concerned it's the best quality playing card available. They will be available in a black and rose gold combination and in blue. There is also a red edition that is exclusively being sold through the Expert Playing Card Company at the Conjuring Art Society in NYC.

If you have any questions feel free to let me know. I'm happy to learn of this forum.

Best,
Stuart

So, these won't be on KS then. I like.

But one color only sold at CARC? Don't like, although if I can pick up all of them at CARC then it won't matter. Btw, is "the Conjuring Art Society in NYC" only a specific shop in NY, or will it include the website?

Tucks are very nice, borders are approved, and I usually like these kinds of themes. Backs seem to be detailed and well-composed too. Though I'm assuming the faces are standard, which is a shame. Custom courts fitting the theme would be nice.

Alright, glad to be invited to your page!

shadowkat, nice link on Gnosticism, and thanks for posting a decent definition.

Yashi, Thanks for introducing me to Lorenzo's Heretic, I see why you find the resemblance, Obviously mine are superior though ;)

Volantangel, sorry to not blow you away, I'll try harder next time.

Yashi, thanks! I went all out at the fancy store, the tucks even have gold foil interiors.

MagikFingerz, Thought about doing a kick starter, but didn't need to for this project, glad you like that. Conjuring Arts will have all three colors, but they have an exclusive agreement on the red, meaning that you can only buy the red colour from them. I am not even selling the red ones myself. (borders are approved?) I pushed the envelope in a couple of areas, one of which is that the white boarders are as thin as possible.
Thanks for the complements on the backs, they took FOREVER! everything on the deck is hand painted first and then scanned into illustrator. I agree that court cards would be a nice addition, there are two that are slightly different, and then I did a custom Ace and Joker. I chose to keep to standard faces because I want this edition to be more useful in performance, and because of time. Eventually when I have more budget and time to commit, perhaps I will develop an edition with custom court cards. It would be a very fun project.

Sinjin7, I'm here, so demanding, sheesh...

I sooo look forward to releasing these cards, they have been a lot of work and a long time coming. They are my first deck design (I just did a commercial custom job as my second.) but there will be more projects coming with LPPC over the next year.

Thanks for introducing me to this community! I look forward to learning more about y'all.

Best,
Stuart

Welcome to the zoo, Stuart! I'll toss you into the lions den - err - Deck Artists group, rather. Enjoy! We're pretty straightforward here, and thanks for the quick response to my inquiry! As always, if you have questions other than magic/caridstry feel free to bounce them off me directly, but for those specific topics our mods are all 'global' so they can help in any area, but "MagikFingerz" (Tom) is the main man for those sub-forums.

Something tells me you two will hit it off famously! ;) I assume you must know or at least know of our friend Zenneth?

the two tone foil is really nice. i've considered that feature but never pursued it fully due to the setup costs, but boy does it look great. The things we can do with tuck cases these days is just wonderful.

Now that Bill has an account, you would think we would know about things like this, at least not only by osmosis, although with over 1000 active members, UC definitely has its eyes and ears on a LOT of things these days!

This is $16.25 per deck shipped domestically at stuartpalm.com and $18.25 per deck shipped from legendsplayingcards.com. For deck produced in Taiwan/China. I find this laughable. Its a pretty tuck box, but a big "no thanks". Obviously people aren't passing the savings from the cheaper Asian playing card manufacturing plants used by LPCC/EPCC down to the customers.

This is true, and also ridiculous. Clearly, creators are using LPCC/EPCC to get better profit margins, rather than better pricing for the customers. Yes, this is just business, but I think a lot of us were expecting differently from designers.

I feel that LPCC/EPCC is on par with USPCC's quality, but USPCC decks have the name's weight. They're definitely more recognized than LPCC/EPCC right now. There's no reason why these LPCC/EPCC decks should be more expensive, because their company's name isn't as prominent as USPCC.

tl;dr LPCC/EPCC isn't a big/famous enough company to command the same deck pricing as USPCC.

I would expect the double foiling on the tuck to increase the cost significantly. However I don't think it's that much more.

Price is a joke, especially as it's not even a fully-custom deck. Sorry, I won't pander to this sort of pricing by buying the deck.

Also, given past experience with CARC, these will be available cheaper down the road.

I have to agree that the price is way higher than it should be, in spite of the 'double foiling' tucks, which adds about $1 per unit to the price ($2 total, once per foil color - and this is a shot-in-the-dark estimate using experience and a bit of wisdom). Still, they are quite nice, but - in fact you would hope that a deck of this type from EPCC/LPCC would be more like $8-$9 each, and $150 shipped for a brick still makes it $13.50 per deck. Lawrence never said that Legends PCC wasn't supposed to make money.

Just an "oh, by the way": if you order a brick, it is a "split brick" even though it is not clearly stated on the website, Lawrence confirmed to me that it was in fact what it should say (6 decks "azure" blue, 6 decks "rose" gold). I am fairly certain that only Stuart's website used the extended color descriptions, and LPCC only says "blue/gold/red" and in fact the red decks are serially numbers and only available from CARC - at a later date, and that has not been announced - yet.

Just a follow-up reminder to my previous comment: CARC should have "Gnostic Trinity" (and the red LE decks 1000 serially numbered) available mid to late next week. No idea on pricing, but I will pass along what I hear.
