Re: LUXX Playing Cards By Randy Butterfield - Pre-Orders MAY
I think that a deck with this theme doesn't always need crazy custom courts. Sure they look a little bland, but I think they fit this deck's style. I like 'em! And as much as I love my decks nowadays to have all kinds of customizations it's nice to take a step back every once in a while to appriciate your roots.

Works for me. If they had no embellishment we'd probably be screaming T11 self included but the border effects and colors set these off.vasta41 wrote:I think that a deck with this theme doesn't always need crazy custom courts. Re: LUXX Playing Cards By Randy Butterfield - Pre-Orders MAY
I'll take bland as a compliment! Seriously though as has been said from day one by myself and by Randy - we want these to be beautiful AND practical. Easy on the eye and appealing for those that are not hard core collectors too. We have hundreds of regular customers who aren't necessarily collectors but who prefer traditional courts so they can use them casually in card games, etc. So the aim was to produce a deck that would have a broad appeal and not just for collectors.vasta41 wrote:I think that a deck with this theme doesn't always need crazy custom courts. In short that means that some may not be happy with the courts as above but it's the right decision for the deck and for our business.
Thank you all for the feedback and support (criticism included) being a fairly new company it's nice to get close to our first deck being printed.
I also wanted to say a couple of words about Randy- as I said back on day one it's been a privilege to work with him and he's been very generous with time and knowledge and in helping me understand certain aspects of card design and the process overall. He's been a pleasure to work with.

Re: LUXX Playing Cards By Randy Butterfield - Pre-Orders TBC
Quick update... I edited the title of the thread to say Pre-Orders TBC rather than "Pre-Orders May TBC" - there's still a few details to iron out and we don't want to rush anything, so pre-orders may be a bit later than planned. I'll update the thread as and when!

Re: LUXX Playing Cards By Randy Butterfield - Pre-Orders TBC
These decks are beautiful, guys, and i'll definitely be getting a pair for the collection!
In terms of cards specifically for poker players (since "poker cards" is right there on the box) however, I have to say that we abandoned paper cards for my weekly game years ago. There is just no comparison between paper cards that wear out in a couple of sessions and plastic cards that last a year or more. Even with basic Bicycle cards at a few dollars per deck, it gets pretty tedious to have to buy new paper decks all the time, and i'm sure your LUXX decks will costly significantly more than standard bikes.
This is not meant as a criticism of your decks, just more of a general question to all: What is the likelihood that the market or printing companies will open up to fully custom plastic decks "any time soon"? 'Cause I'd love to get me some PLASTIC Luxx playing cards for my weekly game, but my understanding is that card companies currently wouldn't even entertain the idea...

Well the playing arts deck is plastic done by piatnik, but don't expect it to come cheapth4mo wrote:These decks are beautiful, guys, and i'll definitely be getting a pair for the collection!

Re: LUXX Playing Cards By Randy Butterfield - Pre-Orders TBC
Absolutely. You're 100% right about plastic decks but there are still many (especially our regular customers) who love paper and the stock and finish from Legends sits nicely between the two- to some extent anyway, it's obviously not going to be anywhere near as hard warning as plastic.

Re: LUXX Playing Cards By Randy Butterfield - Pre-Orders TBC
I would imagine there isn't a huge custom plastic deck market simply because the demand isn't as high. Most serious poker players want plain, easy to read cards and big clear pips.

Re: LUXX Playing Cards By Randy Butterfield - Pre-Orders TBC
Just a quick update- we're in the process of getting the final quote in order, and should have some proofs within the next few weeks all being well! Once the proofs are in and we have a date, I'll update this thread with a pre-order date.

LUXX by Randy Butterfield - Pre-Orders Soon (NOT KS)
Somewhere back on page 3 or 4 I mentioned it's likely to non be a Kickstarter campaign but a store pre-order, I think I said it wasn't 100% yet but that it's almost certain.Sher wrote:Pre-order on your website or a KS campaign? A few pages back you mentioned it may be on KS..
So to clarify - it is definitely going to be a store pre-order.
