New project. A bit pricey for 1 deck. Invited Kristina to join the forums and provide some comments

way too expensive,

but interesting point

so far there are 11 backers listed, but is says there are 12 backers backing $750, but the 11 backers only show $230.00 if you exclude international shipping, there is no pledge level for $500.00, and it has been showing as +$500 more than the normal pledge level since it has had 6 backers.

Which obviously could be people backing for more than the pledge level, but seems every odd considering the price of the decks.

Like her artwork, she needs something just as competent on the back, but yeah the price kills it. A shame because the rest is fixable.

Hi all,
Thanks for drawing this to my attention, this is my first time doing a card deck and though I did my research I got talked into raising my prices by people who were thinking only of the artwork quality and not of the cards as a functioning deck. The price has been lowered each deck is now $10. Thanks again I appreciate the feed back

I told her she needed to lower her price and she has, these are now only $10, but unless she changes the back design from plaid and pips, i'm still passing.

Welcome, Kristina!

$10 is a much more reasonable price and is highly likely to bring you more pledges. As has been said earlier in the thread, the main issue with your deck (now) is the back design. The main thing about back designs is that most prefer them to be two-way, ie mirrored. Secondly, it should fit the theme. Using the generic pips of hearts, spades, clubs and diamonds is something we've seen a thousand times before.

Hopefully this feedback can help you, although it might be a bit late.

that back design is a joke, right? If she did ANY research, she would of found out that the majority of decks are two way.

Kristina, thanks for coming in. Your artwork is excellent, you are very talented. Adjusting your price will help a lot. As several have commented, your back design needs some work. It's not two-way, which your courts are, and it doesn't show off your artistic talent like your courts do.

I think if you can work on the back, and we'll be very happy to help you with suggestions and give you feedback here, you will be well on your way.

Hi all,
The card back was not created by me, it was a contribution of a very good friend and supporter. A few people have commented on this aspect, the best I can say is that I will see about an alternate card back design, but as it was a gift I am not completely comfortable replacing it.

This explains the mismatch. I notice you did pick the same elements in the Aces, but you gave them a treatment that is closer to your own style.

One thing you need to realize us this is business and you can't let emotions override common sense. Look at the successful decks, the ones that get mega-pledges on KS and you'll see they are the ones with solid, consistent design throughout. Perhaps you can find a way to honor your friend and still keep your deck as a cohesive design. Or perhaps your friend can design a symbol (shield, dream catcher, projectile point) that can be used symmetrically for a two-way back and you can give it your own touch to solidify the design.

Love the aces, but not sure how well it'll do with the tribal deck also on Kickstarter at the same time.

Hello Kristina !

The price is much more reasonable now. Thank you.

Here you can find the point of view of people collecting cards but also magicians, flourishers, ... In a word : we love cards and I really like your artwork... But your back really need to be modified (it's not matching your artwork).

Could I suggest you add more reward levels : a least for 2 and 3 decks, 1/2 brick (6 decks) and a brick (12 decks) and/or a system of add-on. Keep in mind it's your first project. We are not absolutely sure that you will deliver the decks (even if you say that you will do it) and this can have impact on the amount of money pledged.

Have you planned to explain your backers your artwork via updates ?

Also, try to keep coherence with courts of one color. For example, for spades, your king is a "bird", your queen a human and your jack a "snake". Courts has to be linked between themselves. Here we don't see the "link". A deck is not only art cards with indexes put on them. I suggest you read this post Cards: History, Meanings, and More. You don't need to follow this to the letter but it helps to design the courts.

This deck could be a great deck !

Awesome work Kristina! I definitely prefer this deck to the Tribal deck. Others have already given suggestions on the back design and the unity of the court cards, which I think are great suggestions, but I'm not gonna bother with those again. If it's just for my taste, I would love to see the title of the deck (Lakota) on the Ace of Spades. Good work overall!

To be honest I think the quality of the artwork on this project blows the Tribal Deck out of the water.

With a better back (carrying on the dreamchaterh theme of the aces perhaps), a move to poker dimensions (though this may create too much negative space) and a little bit of sensible revision of the pledge levels (price down, shipping up) this could do fantastically well IMO.

As do I, I just don't think that every backer of Tribal will look at her and give her the recognition she deserves because they're already helping one Native American-themed deck, which is a shame.

I think a first class deck will hold its own regardless if what's out there, but this one isn't up to that standard yet. It has the potential though. The designers need to realize they're going head to head with some stiff competition and bring their best juice to the table.

Hi there!
So due to popular demand the card back has been changed, designed by myself this time. As for the tuckbox I am holding a contest on https://www.facebook.com/THEAMERICANINDIAN" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; as an opportunity to other artists, primarily I would like for young artists to enter so if you any of you know any please let them know about this contest :) details will be posted on the Facebook page in morning. Thanks for all of your feed back. :D

After the price drop and especially now with that new back could make all the difference. I've been watching this for a while, but this may be enough to get me to 'click it'. MUCH improved!
