My Pyromania deck arrived today. It's very nice, but I still wish they'd followed my suggestion for blue backgrounds on the spades and clubs for easier recognition. Very cool jokers in this deck.

Maybe all the dust from your old boxes are getting to you, making you miss threads and stuff

Just kidding, of course. Here's the thread for the Mystery deck.

As you may have gathered, I don't keep up on the threads around here like I probably should. I generally come in the door via an "Ego Search" (a list of threads in which I have already posted), then read and reply to any new posts in them. If it gets to where activity in them dies off (not likely, as this thread is one of them), I might check a few of the subfora for any new topics which catch my eye, and then post in them, so they appear in my next "Ego Search"...

What Magik said lol.

The Mystery Box deck comes in a brown paper wrap, which when you remove it (by pulling or slicing the single line of glue) simply unfolds will no practical way to put it back together again. THe paper itself is thick and decent enough quality to want to preserve / reuse. My desicription should make sense if you aver get one lol.

NB I find the view unread posts link most useful - I see everything (most stuff I mod skim) and reply to what I want without needing to dig.

"NB"? Note Bene?

I have tried that link in the past. Don't recall why I didn't try it again - thanks for the reminder.

Right you are! I thought it was Note (pronounced Note-eh) Bene, but it is indeed Nota (pronounced - I think - Note-ah ) Bene, Latin for "Note Well". I had never seen it abbreviated "NB" (although, according to Wikipedia, that is quite common) and am, quite frankly, surprised that I pulled it out of my memory banks, even misspelled, as it is primarily used in the worlds of Academia - worlds to which I, I'm sad to say, have had very little exposure.

Many thanks for bringing a bit of culture (pronounced "cultcha") to my day.

THOSE ones I use.

By the way, I'm guessing that your degree is not in a discipline where spelling "leaks" properly would be an issue? :D

Nah - Computer Science. Leek/Leak isn't really part of any programming language. And I have been shouting various insults containing "Leek" at the telly recently during the 6 Nations Rugby Union tournament. Probably on my mind hehe.

It's one of the national emblems of Wales... I'l leave the rest to your imagination.

(Side note - I love the Welsh, and I've spent a lot of time in Wales - it's just comes part and parcel with Rugby - all good natured banter!)

Seems like I always get my decks on a Saturday, I got the Black Book of Cards deck yesterday. As far as the red wax seal (some got the KS green seal), I was going to throw it away but I just put it on the back center of tuck.

Two BLUEBLOOD REDUX's from Uusi arrived this morning. They are just beautiful, and I like how they did the jokers... Did you spot the difference?

Also, those two extra cards that form a dragon, what do any of you guys/gals use them for?

They form what in the art world is referred to as a "Diptych" (a painting or carving consisting of two panels, often hinged together. If there were three cards (panels), it would be a "Triptych".

Diptychs, Triptychs, and similar works with four or more panels all belong to the family of artworks known as Polyptychs.

When I pledged (or whatever you call it) towards the Uusi PAGAN deck, I did so at a level where I got the poster-sized print of that deck's Diptych, an image of Odin's eight-legged horse.

Linnea and I corresponded about Diptychs and Triptychs. She said that she and Paul were proud of the fact that they were the first deck designers (as far as they knew) who had used the two "additional/spare" cards in a deck to form a Diptych. Others have done it since, including Jackson on at least one of the Federal 52 decks.

I told her of Diptychs formed by the backs of many old double-deck sets. Called "put-togethers" by collectors of them, they were double-deck sets where the backs of the two decks, when placed together, formed one image/scene. search eBay for "put-together" and "playing cards" and you might find some.

There are several there right now, being sold as pairs of single cards, including these:

As to your question - what would I use those two cards for? I would definitely scan them both in, and display them together on a web page where I would feature the deck. As to the physical cards themselves, they would stay in the tuck with the rest of the deck.

I think it would be really awesome if someone designed a modern set of two decks as "put-togethers" :)

Wasn't Jackson doing that with the new deck he's got on kickstarter? Thought the covers of the limited editions made a design.

I am considering doing it with my "Celebrate!" deck.

ETA: But making "Put-together" backs which are also Two-Way backs will be a challenge!
