Frontier - custom deck

Unread post by Will Pitney »

Hey everybody!
For my first post here I want to say hello and introduce my first deck of cards!

Its working title is called 'Frontier'.
sample mock up

It revolves around the animals of the North American landscape seen in the style of the late 1800's
The suites are categorize by: Spades / Deer Clubs / Birds Hearts / Little critters Diamonds / Bears
(Fancy pictures of the cards are coming soon)

So, The plan is to get this to kickstarter and printed by the USPC.
This being my first Deck, I want to make sure I'm doing it right. If ya'll have any advise on how to run the campaign, what extras to have and where to get them. All those do's and don'ts
Thanks for the help'

Edit: Fancy photos
everyone hearts little critters...

Love the Bison backs and the style of illustration. Has a vintage feel. I can see picking up a couple decks.

The cards design looks really good ! Love it.

For me a king is more a wise old man and a jack a young inexperimented man. On your cards, it looks inversed...

Very nice back! Do you plan to release it in blue and only blue? If you plan to make only one, I'd like to see a nice earthy brown tone. Either way, great start!

Gotta agree with this. The moose is king of the forest as much as the lion is king of the jungle (at least that's what they teach us in Norway).

Love the vintage feel though!

Thanks, I'm planning on having a red and a blue back - I like the brown idea. maybe a special edition?

Hmmm, I can see what you're talking about. I'll change it

Thanks for the feedback so far'

The faces are awesome!!
Although the back seems to be a little out of the context! I think it's most the color! The blue seems to pop too much! Since the cards are all grey tone, you could find a color that goes better with the gray, maybe a blurry blue (does it exist?!?!). Hope you understand what I mean!!
Will have to agree with the others regarding the kings and jacks!

You can also take in account the fact that cards have certain aspects that you should preserve, like the one eyed jacks (JoS and JoH), the one eyed King (KoD) and the suicide king (KoH)

But great work so far!

Well, on the subject of suggestions... for the birds... might not a proud eagle or hawk make a better King? Might not the duck make a fine Jack?

Just a suggestion. Again, I do like what I see....

Definitely like the idea of an earth tone color. Southwestern desert feel.. Darker red..not rider back red, etc.?

Good point. I've been considering a less grungy version of the expert back deck. Color and 1895 logo.

Thanks for the suggestion. It was really tough choosing what animals to choose and leave out.
I ended up leaving them out in favor of a better grouping. Maybe for future deck full of fellow predators: eagles, hawks, wolves, snakes... the like

hmm, as long as the deck keeps a 'turkey club' I'll be happy

Hi Will, I love everything you've shown so far and will definitely be pledging for your Kickstarter! However I think the whole grungy / distressed look is quite played out by now. Earth tone colours are a great idea though - suits the Frontier theme. And thumbs up for the 'turkey club'!
