Michael Ryan Norton // Jet City Limited // Seattle
Hi Everybody!
It's Michael, the owner of Jet City Limited in Seattle, and I love playing cards.
I've just responded to the thread entitled "Antithesis Deck" which was started by @firthetic (thanks!), but I thought I'd take a moment to introduce myself a bit, as I realize (well a few of you have told me...) Adam and I have kind of appeared out of nowhere (seemingly) with The Antithesis Deck. I've been lurking in these forums, and others, as a guest, for a long time - nearly a year now. Some of your names are already familiar to me, and I've learned a lot from your conversations, so I owe you all many thanks. Unbeknownst to you, your enthusiasm has encouraged us.
I've created Jet City Limited as a container/umbrella for a variety of creative projects I have in mind, including producing some awesome playing cards. I've been working on some of my own card designs (I'm an artist as well), and developing card designs with a handful of other artists. The Antithesis Deck will be our first effort.
I discovered the world of custom playing card design about a year ago while studying Kickstarter. I do a bit of business model and crowd-funding consulting work and have worked in online interactive advertising, big data analysis, and technical project management with tech startups in Seattle recently. Before that my background was a bit more artistic, mostly with music - recording, writing, performing, and in my youth I loved to draw. If you love music/recording, you might check out http://www.CitizenRecording.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, which my brother Patrick runs in San Diego (where I'm from previously). I'm starting to draw and write songs again, after a long dry spell, with increasing success, and someday soon, you'll see either a deck of cards or an album of music from me - not sure which will come first! In the mean time, I enjoy helping other artists and artisans with the parts of being artists that are not artistic.
I curate an Instagram feed called @InkReview through which I've met a lot of wonderful artists around the world, many of whose style would be wonderful if applied skillfully to the playing card format. I'm working with a handful of them to do just that! I've "instigated" a handful of decks, both solo and collaborative projects. I suspect that anyone who loves custom playing cards will also enjoy the work I curate there, so if you use Instagram, come follow @InkReview, and if you don't you can still visit the feed at http://www.Instagram.com/InkReview" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. I have plans to continue developing Ink Review into an online zine of sorts, and you can bet playing card art will make an occasional appearance there (wink).
Feel free to connect with me via any of the services you like. I'm easy to find as @TheRedhype, Michael Ryan Norton, and now @JetCityLimited.
Cheers,
Michael

Re: Michael Ryan Norton // Jet City Limited // Seattle
Thanks Mike!
Look Mom, I'm a "verified designer!" I'm probably way too excited about that.
My first Kickstarter campaign for custom playing cards starts in just a few minutes, and I have to say, I feel really good about it. A large part of that confidence comes from having watched and read this forum. So, thanks! You guys (and gals) rock.
