Why, oh why would they put on thicker borders than the original had??
Still pretty cool, but it just shows how the USPCC has gone backwards in the border department since 1876.

Pretty interesting how the old Triplicates have slightly rounded edges compared to the perfectly straight cut of the restored design.

I also do and these look awesome! I just wish the other 3 they're working on were part of this campaign as well. I would have pledged for all of them, hands down.Eoghann wrote:Love historic reproductions. Definitely in.

I really like the tuck box and the long flap. I remember reading in a thread about someone wishing they had those long flaps again. I hope that person finds this project.

I tend to stray away from reproductions since I'd like to keep only pure originals but I'm a sucker for paper wrapped decks. The price for the LE is pretty steep though.

I think the pricing of LE is a bit high agreed!Yashi wrote:I tend to stray away from reproductions since I'd like to keep only pure originals but I'm a sucker for paper wrapped decks. The price for the LE is pretty steep though.
The paper wrapper adds nothing for me, why wrapp something special up and hide it? No one will ever see this long flap...especially if you keep it in this condition. Makes no sense to me ...unless you buy 2 decks
What i miss is some kind of price reduction or early bird tiers. No big savings when buying i.e. 3 regular and 1 limited deck.
Re: 1876, A.Dougherty Triplicate Playing Cards Restoration U
If you look at the original King of Spades--sure they had thinner borders, but the registration was way off. That bottom index is extremely close to the edge. Don't get me wrong--not criticizing the gorgeous original *or* the gorgeous reproduction--I'm just not sure they handled thin borders better in 1876.MagikFingerz wrote:Why, oh why would they put on thicker borders than the original had??

I'm not sure how I missed this...
These are made by the people that did all those 8-bit decks.

This will be Michael's first true Playing card deck, he has made card games with the 8-bit theme to them. His partner Cobey (Home Run Games) has made all the 8-bit playing card decks.CBJ wrote:I'm not sure how I missed this...

Great project, well done, respecting the history of playing cards and bringing something great to more people. Nice work!
I was curious and looked on ebay and the only original one of these decks was $550. Ouch.

I think USPCC outsources the more complicated tuckboxes. I also think that the paper wrapping is done by the creators or someone out of uspcc.

Re: 1876, A.Dougherty Triplicate Playing Cards Restoration U
I was sniped on a triplicate deck that was mislabeled a few months ago. It wasn't in perfect condition by any means, but it was nicely used, and in great condition for something so old, and went for just a bit more than one of these limited edition decks is going for. I still kick myself for not making my bid quite a bit higher, and just reassured my hatred for auction snipers and how ebay ends in a hard close.
Anyways, these are some cool cards, I'm in for a few and at least one Ltd edition, maybe two.

Went in on the 2+2 LE/standard. Couldn't resist. I don't collect a lot of vintage reprints but this has extra goodies like the tongue and wrapping that really sets it apart.

Wow.... um... I'm just really not feeling this one.
Looks like it'll fund no problem, however, which is great for the rest of y'all.
I suppose I, for one, am grateful for just how far card art has come since those days!

Im in for this, but im wondering if ill stay. Im not a crazy fan over vintage decks, and i dont think the limited box and wrapper is done by uspcc, in fact i have a feeling it is done by hand by the designers, i can probably wrap my own deck up with paper if i wish.

Yup. I backed it for this same reason. I also upped my pledge to the 2+2. I was hoping they'd offer a tier with two LE eventually.Widdee wrote:Went in on the 2+2 LE/standard. Couldn't resist. And now 3 LE + 3 SE pledge...
Strange for a projet that initialy limited the number of LE deck to one per backer. I don't know what to think about...

I think the reason why he initially limited it to one deck per backer was to control the volume. So now he's slowly releasing more.lolo wrote:And now 3 LE + 3 SE pledge...

Had to go for the 3+3 since he added it, probably top out my pledge unless I go for a coin or sumpin.Sher143 wrote:Yup. I backed it for this same reason. I also upped my pledge to the 2+2. Re: 1876, A.Dougherty Triplicate Playing Cards Restoration U
Keeping the limited deck at a relatively small number (1,000) and, making it available exclusively to KS backers is the way I'd like to see all deck campaigns go...no aftermarket wholesaling of whatever's left. Well done, Michael!
best regards,
Ed D.

Re: 1876, A.Dougherty Triplicate Playing Cards Restoration U
Was originally in for 1+1, but I downgraded to a single standard. This is one of those decks that are "neat" to have but not much more (to me). A (reprinted) small piece of history is nice to have, but I don't need the whole shabang with paper wrapping and stamps to get that same feeling. I'll just feel like I shouldn't open it, and I don't like feeling that way about any deck. Particularly not a $25 one.

Re: 1876, A.Dougherty Triplicate Playing Cards Restoration U
Lolo & Yashi - I agree. I think he just didn't want some collector to come in and buy it by the brick and effectively cut everybody else out. I think that's a good idea initially, but now that he is funded (and yes, I know he did it before it was completely funded, but 95% with 30 days left is a pretty safe bet to say it will end up being funded) he's talked to enough people to understand that we don't want that either, but we do want to be able to have more than a single unit.Yashi wrote:I think the reason why he initially limited it to one deck per backer was to control the volume. So now he's slowly releasing more.lolo wrote:And now 3 LE + 3 SE pledge...

After talking to him for two days, I think I finally made a chink in his armor, and I was the one that kept saying that "true collectors always buy decks in sets of 3" (one to look at, one to play with and one to spare/trade/whatever). He must have thought about it and concluded that I was right. Now, I'm sure other people had said things, I'm not taking credit for it, just saying that I did hit him pretty hard over several days starting the day it was posted to at least make more than 1 per person available. It's reasonable if you only have 30/50/100 or something like that. With 1000 produced, I think it's only reasonable to let his backers have at least one or two more (and as others have pointed out, making them exclusive to the kickstarter backers that got you funded to start with).
