Woah! Welcome back! Glad you could join us.
That being said, this is actually a zombie deck I rather like. Specially the stretch decks.

Good to have you back, Pierre!
It's an interesting theme, that's for sure. The back is way too monochrome (?) to me, makes it kinda boring despite the details.
Why is there a pic of a gold back? If they get Air Cushion finish at the $25k stretch goal, what do they have before that?

I agree - this is a zombie deck I might actually buy. Plus it makes me laugh, so big ups for that.

This looks better than that sea sick Treasury deck. This looks like a deck USPCC could've put out themselves (since they made 3 zombie decks already).

Welcome back!
I would prefer if the color used on the back design was the same from the tuck box, like this:
Green is my favorite color, though

Welcome back, Pierre!! I'm happy to be able to comment on all the junk you're able to find again! Lol This isn't the worst of the worst- I'm just not into zombie... anything really. It's Federal 52 meets any one of the Bicycle zombie decks. Minus Jackson...

Re: Undead Presidents Bicycle Playing cards (KS)
When was John Wilkes Booth President?
Yes, yes. I know.
If JWB is one joker, shouldn't LHO be the other?
And, no, I don't think either of those two should be commemorated. I like the idea of Nixon and Andrew Johnson being the two jokers, instead. Or, if not Johnson, Buchanan.

Re: Undead Presidents Bicycle Playing cards (KS)
I actually find this whole deck to be in poor taste. Do we really need to make an amusing image of JFK with his head blown open (edit: and Lincoln too, for that matter)?rousselle wrote:When was John Wilkes Booth President?

I'm all for zombies, but y'know, the fictional, not based on actual people who have lived and died type of zombies...
Not suggesting it should be banned or censored... i just won't be buying it.

Lee Harvey Oswald was a patsy. And no, we should not be commemorating him or Mr. Booth.rousselle wrote:When was John Wilkes Booth President?

Re: Undead Presidents Bicycle Playing cards (KS)
I have to agree with th4mo here, this is all done in extremely poor taste. And don't get me wrong, I'm as un-PC as one can be and I cuss about as much as the offspring of a sailor and longshoreman, but poking fun at some of the greatest people in history makes this easy pass. The only thing worse than this is the Ho Chi Minh deck IMO.

That was an error in the mock-up, brought to our attention by your post.MagikFingerz wrote: Why is there a pic of a gold back?

I'm involved with the UNDEAD PRESIDENTS campaign, and thought this would be a good thread to get some feedback for our Kickstarter. Thanks to badpete69 for starting the thread.
Here's my KS profile:

I certainly understand why some of you object to the art from UNDEAD PRESIDENTS. That's the power of art---each individual receives it differently.
I'm available to respond to any questions, comments, or recommendations. I'll also post some of the art and update information as the campaign progresses.

I have to say that I think the artwork on this deck is actually really well done. Probably the best zombie deck art yet, IMHO.
As for the theme... well, i usually don't think of myself as being overly PC or too thin-skinned, but this just rubs me the wrong way.
For me personally, it's nothing really to do with the fact that these people were presidents. Lincoln and Kennedy were real people who literally had their heads blown open, and these images just seem in poor taste. Would you do a Columbine or Newtown Zombie deck?
As I've said before though, to each their own... so no hard feelings I hope!
Unfortunately, I can't honestly root for this deck to succeed, but i do hope you come out with some other decks in the future with the same artist!
Cheers!

If this were Hollywood celebrities I wouldn't have a problem, and you'd have a ton of subject matter to work with. Undead Hollywood! I can laugh at those arses. Agree with those who feel the subject matter is off-putting.

I'll hold you to that if we do a Hollywood deck.Widdee wrote:If this were Hollywood celebrities I wouldn't have a problem, and you'd have a ton of subject matter to work with. Undead Hollywood! I can laugh at those arses. Agree with those who feel the subject matter is off-putting.
But yes, I get it: past presidents are revered by many---even sanctified . . . and maybe that's the point. There are cultures that raise their leaders above other men, even to the point of preserving their corpses. The pharaohs and Lenin come to mind. But consider for a moment that such material things aren't significant. A corpse is just rotting flesh. The desiccated finger of a saint doesn't actually have any magic power. A flag is just colorful cloth. When we elevate symbols above the ideals they are supposed to represent, we risk losing our way. A man becomes a legend, becomes a fiction, becomes a husk.
Anyway, those are just thoughts that come to my mind when I see the art in Undead Presidents. It's obvious that many people here didn't have similar thoughts. That's fine. That's art. I don't know if Dré had those thoughts when he was creating Undead Presidents; he may just like drawing zombies.

Re: Undead Presidents Bicycle Playing cards (KS)
There was a real Lincoln. There was a real Kennedy. I don't think I know either of them, truthfully. What I know are depictions. When I think of Lincoln, I think of "Honest Abe", I think of the Gettysburg Address, and I think of the temple to Lincoln that we built in DC. That's the form I've been fed since I was a child. Any ancient Greek walking into the Lincoln Memorial would conclude that Lincoln was one of our gods. And its wonderful. And I love that Lincoln. But you know what? That Lincoln isn't real. We made that Lincoln. We perfected him. It's a construct.th4mo wrote:Lincoln and Kennedy were real people who literally had their heads blown open, and these images just seem in poor taste. Dré's art is a bit shocking, truly. But that shock gives me an opportunity to consider and evaluate, to appreciate and understand. It's not the man that was important, but what he stood for---or at least what we now say he stood for. The fact of Lincoln and truth of Lincoln are two very different things. If we never look beyond the purity of the marble gods we have crafted, we won't understand the truth.
Gosh, no. I appreciate you taking the time to look at our project, even if you don't like it.th4mo wrote:As I've said before though, to each their own... so no hard feelings I hope!

Re: Undead Presidents Bicycle Playing cards (KS)
Brick pledge option added, $120.
Question for the community---how important is it for card collectors to have bricks in fancy "brick box", as opposed to just getting 12 decks at a better price?

I love the concept for this deck. I'm surprised it isn't doing better. I love anything to do with seeing hisotry even if it's undead Presidents. I might need to add one to my collection.

Thanks, RJ. It's hard to get noticed on Kickstarter sometimes, and there are ALWAYS a lot of decks. Aside from being involved in the project, I'm personally hoping this gets funded because I'd love to have one of these decks.

Re: Undead Presidents Bicycle Playing cards (KS)
I've pledged for a deck; I was a history major in college, and like others on this thread, I revere many of the men lampooned in this deck, and yet somehow I don't find it as distasteful to lampoon Lincoln/Kennedy as I do to "honor", say, Stalin or Mussolini. But, as has been stated several times on this thread, "na vskus y tsvyet, tovarishchi nyet."
(That's my favorite Russian idiom. It translates literally as "In taste and color, there are no comrades," which is colorful way of saying, "to each his own.")
...And yet I'm still going to back Global Unrest, Stalin card and all. I am not even internally consistent.
That said, I'll go out on a limb here and note that one possible reason this project isn't getting more backers is because, well, we've seen a *lot* of zombie decks come through in the past few years, and for a new zombie deck to get (at least some of) our attention, it's going to have to offer something substantial to rise above the noise. I'm partial to it because of the irreverent theme, but that may not be enough to win as many backers as it will take to fund this project. I, for one, had vowed never to fund a zombie deck, and you managed to pull a (small) pledge from me. But others may not have been similarly swayed.
Just two cents. I do hope to see a project of yours succeed, even if this ends up not being the one. I like your design aesthetic. And your irreverence.

Thanks for the support, rousselle. There are plenty of zombies wandering around our decks, video games, televisions, and just about everywhere else. True enough.
That said, I love Dré's artwork, and I actually like the deck. Reaching our funding goal seems to be a tough row to hoe this time around, but it's a good experience, and we've certainly appreciated the feedback we get from collectors here such as yourself. We'd like to make this deck a reality, even if we have to take another swing at it.

Funding Unsuccessful!
Thanks for the feedback, folks. Good community here.
Even though our first KS project wasn't successful, we learned a few things.
We'll post here if we decide to relaunch.

Re: Undead Presidents Bicycle Playing cards (KS)
I think what you should do is come up with a new deck with a theme that appeals to more people. Your artwork and campaign seemed pretty solid, and I really think at this point in the game it's about finding a theme that a lot of people want to see on a deck of cards.
If that works out and you get a following, then a relaunch of this one might be more successful.
