In keeping with the previous article about the funding of kickstarter.com projects that was shown here the day before publication last week, Ivan is going to prepublish a few articles of interest to our community here the day before they are released to the public. Most of his reporting is done in his "Kardify Analytics" series which shows some type of analysis of the various projects done on KS, amongst other things. This particular week's article is about the late shipping (or not) of KS playing card projects. We all pretty much know the names of those that will be in the "Hall of Shame" for KS projects, and I'm going to split our "Funded" list into two parts this week: ones that were delivered on time or within reason, and those that are either 3 or more months late (per their own projected delivery date) and those that weren't delivered at all. Note that he didn't really address the total rip-off projects (yet). That will be the subject of a future article, likely in the next few weeks, which is why "Founders" isn't listed in this article.

Remember from the previous analysis of three years of playing card projects on KS, that Playing Card projects deliver late on their backer rewards 57% of the time, as opposed to the average of 83% of all projects. By contrast, board games deliver 98% or more of their backer rewards on time. This article uses "UUSI" as one good example of a creator (in this case creators, being both Linnea and Peter) that has always delivered their rewards on time, or actually one month early in two of their five projects to date, and #5 is in progress right now: the "Pagan" decks which wraps up in almost exactly four days from the time of this post, at 7PM on Saturday after a 31-day funding cycle.

I am humbled by your kind introduction Ratledge.

My aim with the Analytics series is to attempt to give an insight to the complex machinery that goes on behind the scenes of creating a playing card deck from numericals, design, marketing to shipping. A different perspective that we don't normally think about predominantly on the Kickstarter projects.

For me after doing just two article thus far, gave me a new appreciation of playing cards. I hope that these articles and even future ones will be beneficial and will help you appreciate your hobby more.

Going forward: I plan to publish a monthly report on what happened on KS. It will be more of a tracking report with the usual chart from my 2013 review article. (e.g. Number of projects created last month, # of project successful/unsuccessful..etc etc.. ). Also, a look at the current month with what are projects are getting funded (or not), and look at a month ahead for any deck that might me releasing in the fwd one month. Please let me know if you have any ideas or what you want to see more. I am still deciding on the format.

As part of our analytics as well, I plan to feature more commentary / insights of certain issues. This could involve interview with creators... and backers. It will be almost similar format to the second article on the 2012 late shipping. So... if you have any ideas on topics or want to just be heard, please let me know.

I want to say thank you in advance to all the creators and backers who have been taking time off to answer some of my queries and being really co-operative. Without you guys, I won't have any thing to write.. just pretty charts and graphs that don't quite mean anything.

I have been doing kick starters since before most folks ever heard of the site on the board game side of things (and 1 kids book), and I've always wanted more data!!!

I agree, Lukeout. The interesting figure I saw in the previous 3-year analysis of projects was that of playing card projects, 57% are delivered late, whereas board games are delivered more like 98% of the time on or before the promised date. The overall amount for everything as I recall was higher than that, something like 60% (63%) late or maybe a little more? I'd have to go look, but that's what I remember.

I figure a board game would be more skeptical to play and more complex to make than a deck of cards.
