I got 3 packages in the mail today, and many more are on their way. I got my Venexiana deck and 2 ebay auctions I won. One had several fun decks like a Bettie Page deck, a deck called "Liberty" that has 54 illustrations by Alphonse Mucha, and a deck of Hugo Pratt's art cards. The other package was a deck of Madison Dealers, the Red Crown Luxury Deck, and the Gold Crown deck, all of which I got at Black Friday deal prices.

Can't say I'm surprised though, S - the decks you're giving away so nonchalantly aren't exactly chopped liver, so judging from that, I would expect your collection to be mind-boggling in its Holy Grail-ness.

Okay, here are this week's eBay deliveries:

Published to promote the Christmas 1962 issue of Esquire Magazine (The Title card solicits advertising in that issue, so the deck had to have been published several months before December).

The Club and Spade pips are green which, along with the red heart and diamond pips, give the deck a nice Christmassy look.

The cards are longer (taller) than they appear in these scans, which were resized to the standard dimensions I use in my "grids".

Published in 1986 by the W. D. & H. O. Wills company to commemorate their 200th year in business, this deck features images from a set of tobacco insert cards published by the company in 1905, titled "Kings and Queens of England"

I know nothing at all about this deck other than the fact that it was published by a company named "Oriental Trading".

All of the cards in each suit are identical to the rest of the cards in the suit, except the "value/denomination" portion of the index (A/2/3...J/Q/K).

None of the cards were shown in the eBay listing where I found them, only the box front and back were shown.

Given the four images on the back of the box (shown second from the right), I hoped that the courts in the four suits would be jack, queen and king-like versions of the four holiday characters on the back of the box (Snowman, Reindeer, etcetera).

Unfortunately, that turned out not to be the case.

Regardless, I liked the deck enough (especially the coal joker) to give it a place among the other Christmas-themed decks in my collection.

I like how the Isosceles (sp?) triangles (on each of the boxes in the center) create the illusion of overlapping belts/straps (they make me think of seatbelts for some reason. very elegant graphic.

Interesting (if somewhat bland) color choices on the New Fan Back decks.

Exactly, I had one of those deck for quite a long time, I always loved it! So I tried to find more for years, luckily a few weeks ago I managed to find someone in the UK selling some I was so happy I bought every single one...

One of the deck came in bad condition, so I opened it to play around and take some pictures, you can take a look here.

I love the classic Hoyle design and the minimalist no border back is awesome. Don't expect to do a perfect fan using those, but for cuts, this deck is great!

I've found a couple of decks (Belgium & Poland, oddly enough) that were never distributed here, one by Carti Mundi and another I'm not certain of.

Way too rick for my blood right now, though! I spent enough during Black Friday and Cyber Monday to keep me afloat for several months, and things like 2 bricks of Black JAQKs arrived today along with my Venexiana x6, Chris' Day of the Dead ("Calvaleras") x4 each, Shapie's Black Friday brick (shipped Saturday, amazingly went coast-to-coast over the weekend and fell out my end of the pipe today!) - I pictured it in his thread, and one more. The thing is my phone battery is dead and it's in the charger, and the pix I took are all on that camera. I'll be back. There's one more.

Interesting: phone is completely discharges again. I'll try one more time. I can't get to the pictures for now: "imagine a field of Black JAQKs, Medallions and Empires" (amongst others).

Yep, actually I have two of those, one in the original "Birthday Box" from 1987 and another that I got off ebay.com for $4, I think. It's just the deck itself. I'll have to put together a picture of all my "tobacianna" here shortly. All is either "Marlboro" or "RJRTC" -- like the Bee Watermelons, which I have in the original shipping case with dice. That one says "Nothing beats a Full House on your Birthday" on the outside and "Except Four of a Kind" on the inside.

A couple of new decks:

Mmmmm, Playing cards!!

Bought this one yesterday in a Calendars & Games store at a local mall.

The indices are "veined" (like bacon).

The courts all have pig faces, and the Kings are Boars (they have tusks), to distinguish them from the jacks, who have no tusks.

The Pip cards/Number cards (2-10 - none shown here) all depict a frying pan shaped like a pip of the card's suit, with the number of strips of bacon in the pan corresponding to the card's denomination (2-10).

Two of the Aces follow that same convention, while the other two (such as the Spade Ace (shown) simply have an enlarged version of the "veined" pip from the index.

The box and card back (shown) depict a package of bacon.

Not sure who manufactured it, but it seems to be made of good, coated stock.

I can't get enough of these because, as I have mentioned here before, I bought one in this series in a Hallmark store when I was only ten years old (1968).

It was the first deck in what would become my collection/obsession with custom-courted decks.

Let's see. a couple of the other Marlboro tie-ins: (one is a 50th anniversary reprint of 2 1949 deck used in the World Poker tournament in New Mexico in '49 in the "Aces over Kings" box at bottom, and the middle one is from around 1991-92 when they had the "Ranch Party" promotion the first time, mostly giving away 4-day trips for 2 to the "Crazy Mountain Ranch" in Montana. The top one is a "Crazy Mountain Ranch" deck with no tuck, don't think there ever was one. It's a "Hoyle" branded deck from about the same time period)

Oh wow! That was my first Ebay purchase back in 2004. The Marlboro poker chips. I then upgraded to real clay pokers chips. Not the china plastic ones with the steal slug. My theme for mine was green chip with black sides for .25 black chip with pink sides for $1 pink chip with yellow sides for $5 yellow chip with blue sides for $10 and blue chip with orange sides for $50. Oh wow! That was my first Ebay purchase back in 2004. The Marlboro poker chips. I then upgraded to real clay pokers chips. Not the china plastic ones with the steal slug. My theme for mine was green chip with black sides for .25 black chip with pink sides for $1 pink chip with yellow sides for $5 yellow chip with blue sides for $10 and blue chip with orange sides for $50. Thanks for the image of yesterdays...

That's a thought: put the original ones away and get some real chips, use a couple of Black Legends v2 or something. Who's got good prices for 3-400 assorted chips? Gambler's General Store, maybe? There's bound to be others...

Sharpie - I could sell you one, but I'd have to get $5 out of it and actual shipping these days (until January) is $5.15, discounted from $5.80. By the time you add tracking it's less than $2 less than 2-day Priority. The two eBay listings save you half price.

A couple of eBay acquisitions:

Both of these decks were listed as "Open" (as in, not sealed), so I was not terribly surprised to find that neither deck had a joker (a frequent occurance with used decks).

Neither had any "additional" (advertising, etcetera) cards either, but I am not certain whether the decks normally have those.

Every card in the decks has raised (Braille) bumps on the indices, allowing blind people (those who can read Braille, anyway) to be able to identify the card.

The bumps make the card much thicker than a standard Bike card, so the box (it's not a tuck) is roughly twice as deep as a standard Bike tuck.
