"The project is scheduled to launch in early October and backers are to expect a lot of fun surprises, including a poker chip, a card case and uncut sheets. The court cards will be all new images with models standing in for the courts that are being photographed by Paul. Although there will be new models standing in for the traditional courts, the cards will not break from the tradition of featuring the two One-Eyed Jacks and a Suicide King. In order to keep visual continuity, all of the images in the deck will be black and white.
To help raise hype about the Foto Grafis cards, Paul Michael Kane has created a Facebook page where potential backers can keep track of updates here" https://www.facebook.com/groups/678409555506228/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I'm curious as to what models are gonna be. All female? All male? Mix bag? Mixed bag would be best IMO. Young guy for Jack, young woman for Queen, mature, bearded man for King.
Thanks so very much for posting about this, CBJ . . . I am very excited about the project and everything has been sent off to Kickstarter for approval. Can't wait to launch. As for Eoghann's question about the court cards. It's going to be a mixed bag of the two. When the campaign launches, you find a preview of the Queen of Spades. Subsequent updates will preview the rest of the court. It's been a blast doing this and hope to be able to make these cards a reality!!
I'm very skeptical but I'll wait until it comes on Kickstarter. No problem with all images being black and white as long as the pips/suits are distinct-able.
"When I like something, I buy. No matter who did it, how many were printed or how many (re)colors exist.
When I don't like something, I pass. No matter who did it, how many were printed or how many (re)colors exist."
Thanks everyone! And nice catch, sqmiller . . . got more than a few emails on that this morning! Bikefanatic, you can see some of the images featured on the kickstart preview at my site: http://www.paulmichaelkane.com!" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;!
Stay tuned for my first update on Friday, October 4th with a no-obligation add-on for anyone who has backed for at least one deck!!
Howdy Paul,
In the image of the QoS you also have 3 other cards fanned behind it marked as Q's too. The image also seems to show the feather from her mask on those too, will the photos repeat across all suits?

I think all 4 are QoS - check the pips.
I went through this same sequence: Horror at the repeating courts, then relief when i noticed that the pips repeated too.
Kind of an odd way to display your court card design, IMHO.
In hind sight, perhaps I could have chosen a different display tactic for my queen of spades . . . but rest assured, all the court cards will feature different models in their respective roles. Each will be revealed via updates later in the campaign. First update will occur on Friday, October 10 and reveal a no-obligation add-on that I am pretty excited about!
Been a wonderful day seeing all the interest in the project from all over the world . . . very humbling. Can't wait to see what the next few days/weeks bring!
Some new add-ons announced today at the Foto Grafis Kickstart project page . . . the first is another "no-obligation" add on . . . a Foto Grafis microfiber cloth . . . measuring 6"x6" . . . this comes free with every deck backed!!
Then comes the most requested add-on . . . the card guard. Very excited about this as I've never designed a coin before. The cost of the coin is $10 - and that's free shipping for domestic and international backers.
Thanks for your time and consideration . . . we're almost at the half-way point with 28 days left . . . really want to make this happen!!
There seems to be a trend where the pip suits have multiple suits on the top left. Your basically losing the squeezers. You have to fan more to the right to see what the suit of the card is. I say if your going to do that just make your pips like court cards. Keep the squeezers and use the top of the card for a bigger narrower picture. Does this make sense? With your cards, you can probably see maybe 10 cards in your hand cos you have to spread them out so much....
Agreed this is a great deck. The style has been done before but has not been beat to death. I am still moving so I can't back this but if my situation were different I would definitely pick a few of these up. Very nice.
The one thing that's preventing me from backing is the fact the it feels so disconnected. I was excited to see a woman as the queen, which led me the believe there would be a relation between the pictures and the cards. So far it just seems like fantastic pictures with pips on them. Correct me if I'm wrong but if there is any relation between the pictures and the suits, I'm not seeing it.

I feel the same way - I was originally very psyched about this deck, but my enthusiasm has waned as the project has gone on and more cards have been revealed. At this point, I'm backing the Playing Arts deck.

Seconded... and thirded. Very professional looking deck and i think he has some very nice extras. But in the end this doesn't seem like a "real" deck of playing cards, just a promotional tool for his studio. Not that there's anything wrong with that... It's just not for me.
