eBay "Bid History" link?

eBay "Bid History" link?

Unread post by RSLancastr »

I received an email from eBay saying that my bid on a certain item had been cancelled, and that the Reason for the cancellation could be viewed by following the "Bid History" link on the item's page.

Unfortunately, I have not seen a "Bid History" link on an eBay item in years. Does anyone know where the link is located on an item's page?

I have just sent an email to the seller, asking them for the reason.

I have no idea what it could be - I have a 100% Positive rating on eBay, and have been a member for 16 years (since before it was even called eBay - it was still "Auction Web" when I joined).

ETA:

I received a reply from the seller:
Hi, The item was destroyed in storage. Sorry and thank you for your bid.
This is the first time I've ever had a bid cancelled. Odd.

The bid history link is the the bit at the top of the page that says how many bids there have been - click it to see what those bids were (usernames other than yours will be masked though)

I've had bids cancelled in the past with similar reasons - it's usually because the seller has sold the item privately and need to feed eBay an excuse it will accept. But the item might genuinely have been damaged beyond saleability in flood or fire... who can say?!

Thanks, Joe! I had not noticed that the "x bids" was a link.

Understandable that the other bidders' names are redacted, but back in eBay's early days, the current highest bidder's name (or the winner's name, if the auction had ended) was listed right on the item's page. There was also an OBVIOUS "Bid History" link which showed a list of all bids on the item, with no bidder names redacted.

There was also a function on eBay to search for all items which a given user was currently bidding on (or had won). I guess it was ripe for abuse (e.g: stalking a "competitor" so you could snipe things they were currently bidding on) and was removed.

The (non-redacted) "Bid History" list was similarly prone to abuse, although I used it to keep from bidding on items which a friend was currently bidding on.

Hmm... Makes sense, thanks!

Better that they canceled it before you won the item. I bid on something I really wanted once and won it for the initial .99¢ bid and the seller contacted me shortly after saying it had been broken in storage. A day later they reposted it with a starting bid of $20. Needless to say I was a bit upset.

Maybe it was broken in a good way? :)
