Made a few purchases on ebay, plus an Emily the Strange deck.

Image

Links to their ebay page for more pictures: Top set and bottom set.

The red/blue set seemed to have gilded edges because they're gold-colored, but they felt just like regular edges (they're not USPCC though!):

And here's finally a picture of the Bicycle Custom Promo deck. Sorry for not displaying all the cards, I'm lazy

Hey MF. That red/blue deck is a Congress deck, one of the earliest brands the USPCC made, so still theirs. Maybe the method they use for gilding has changed over the years?

Ah, that would make sense then. They actually handled pretty decently after a few shuffles.

As for the gilding, I can't imagine the process getting worse over the years. Gilded decks seems to have a fairly thick layer of gold, while these seem to be merely colored. Feels just like normal edges when dribbling and springing them. Whatever they did, they should do it again with black on black decks!

Do you mean black edging? That would be cool. Takes a long time to sharpie a deck properly.
Book pages were originally gilded to protect them - wonder if it extends the life of cards as well.

Dazz, that might depend on whether or not the cards are coated, and whether or not the coating extends to the edges (I doubt that it does).

Hello my Bretheren. Please to stay tuned for a special announcement regarding I DECK I have been seeking for sometime. One of my favorite members sold me the deck I had been seeking. Hopefully he will ship it soon as I paid him and this deck would bring me great happiness. Without blowing his anonymity he is from Sveden and goes by the name, svinger.

Wonder who that might be? ;)

On a separate note: today was the first time I boarded the Amtrak. On my way back I notice a menu for the train on the seat in front of me. Was happy to see a deck of playing cards listed on their menu. So I venture like 4 carts over and venture 7 carts back to the end of the train(I got lost on my way back, can you believe that? Derp.)

Anywho, this has just been added to the collection:

Close BJC ,that looks like a great deck, but no, I will give you a hint on my deck, made by T11, it is white, it has the word cent in it and I have been obsessing about it for years. I got it for a price so fair the Svede has proved himself to be a truly food friend. I will not say how much unless the Svede says I can. I am so excited about receiving this deck, it will be the creme De la creme of my collection. I need to talk to Mike about getting a special holder for these decks. Mike owes me anyway. With me this forum would suck, alright, it might be better but my boy Mike should hook me up anyway for making up for all the BS he gives me. So Mike, what you got for your buddy Walrus.

Yes, it wasn't a typo, I do make this forum suck but that is what keeps people coming back. by the way monte, that is a nice add you your collection. I think that Americana deck is one of my top ten. I wish Russ would come back to this forum. I know things went a bit south for him with the quicksilver deck but that aside he has run some successful quality campaign.

Somewhat tangentially-related story:

In the stage theatre world, complimentary tickets ("comps") to a show are sometimes given to members of the production to give out as they see fit.

At one time it was customary to punch a hole in "comp" tickets so they could easily be identified as comps in the box office, to help with bookkeeping.

Old-timers sometimes refer to "comps" as "Annie Oakleys" or just "Annies", because the ticket with a hole in the center resembled the playing cards which Annie Oakley would shoot a hole through in her Wild West show.

Just thought I would throw that in.

I really like the Bicycle Karnival Elite deck but it looks every similar to the Bicycle Templar Knights deck which has the gold borders around the pips.

Collecting cards really isn't strange. I wish somebody would say something about me doing it when most people spend their money getting their bodies inked up, drinking, smoking and going to clubs/bars weekly, etc. I dropped around $300 this year on them and it really doesn't hurt my pockets at all. It's a very enjoyable, inexpensive hobby for me since I'm not reckless with money or splurge on clothes, movies, etc.

recieved yesterday my order from Julien Campy from France.
The Fatboy deck had a heavy ding on the corners...but the rest of the decks were totally fine.
I think the ding was in there before he send them to me,because all the other decks were not harmed at all.

Anyways i´ve added some newer releases to my collection and the Karnival Elite deck is really cool with his build in magic trick :)

Got my white Allures in today, gold tuck is #685. I really like the white cards, much nicer than the regular black ones. Also got one of their signed Onyx cards, 9 Diamonds so unfortunately I didn't win a copy of that deck.

did you hear that, the White Cent is on its way to my home. Three years I have been seeking it and soon it shall be mine. What do you think, about two weeks for a Norwegian package to make it to the US. I feel like a little kid waiting for Christmas

Here's a deck I'd absolutely LOVE to have - New Era:

Somewhere in storage I have a large (about 2' square) sofa pillow made of a material with this deck's courts on it.
