An unusual competition - I almost did not click on it - it could have been a scam link

I generally don't see the homepage as my Bookmark goes straight to my User page

Since P52 came back up, I have been taking my time to work on it since there was no longer the pressure for it to be an immediate replacement. I've made great progress behind the scenes and open signup is on the horizon.
TLDR: no firm date yet, but Soon™.

This was just posted on Facebook by Nurul. Not looking good.

Evening all!

I know some people are wondering what's happened to the P52 site. I wanted to get clarification of the problem before I posted anything.

I had Rob check the hosting service and he was presented with the following message:

"Your account has been suspended due to an overdue balance. Please reach out to your team's account administrator (individuals that hold Biller or Owner roles) to restore service."

Rob is only configured as the team member for the host, so does not have access to the billing page. I have zero access.

I know this probably isn't the news you wanted to hear but this is something completely out of our hands. The only person, that I'm aware of, that can resolve this is Alex.

I can only apologise for the inconvenience this has caused to the community.

Welp, it's only a matter of time then for the same to happen to UC. Does anyone else have access to the UC billing?

I mentioned earlier—the only way to avoid this issue was to copy the account entirely, including all scripts, databases, etc., and create a mirror on another domain. If they don’t have access to billing or hosting and don’t have a backup, then it’s likely time to say goodbye! The hosting company will terminate this account within a month, or possibly even sooner. They can also try contacting the hosting company to offer payment without access to the billing system.

I believe this forum has more than one individual with enough access to keep it alive.

Regarding Alex, it's all speculation since no one has heard from him as far as anyone's aware. Your guess is as good as mine.

Hello all!
Some news regarding the P52 site.
First of all, it's up and running.. Kind of.
The issue with billing still remains - no one can do anything about it, except for Alex. However, Rob has managed to speak with the support team explaining the situation. Based on the current circumstance, they have granted an extension but they haven't stated for how long (I'll try get an estimate)
Secondly, the SSL cert has expired again. You can bypass it, should you want to access the site
Lastly, I'll keep in contact and see what is done but I can't thank Rob enough for all the time he's spent on trying to get this resolved for all of us.
I'll try and keep the community updated as much as I can.
Thank you

It's nice that he got it temporarily up and running but it's gonna go down again soon so it's as good as dead. People should save their lists, favorites, pics whatever while they can.

You definitely don't want to turn off this warning. Although I'm not sure if there's a way to do it just for that P52.

If you want to save this site, consider raising funds for those with access to hosting to create a mirror on a different domain. While this approach might fall into a legal grey area, it seems to be the only viable option.

I don't know if stealing all the content off a site you don't own and making a new site with that content is a gray area or just copyright infringement, but I still maintain people should be saving their stuff before the site goes down. I guess it's not copyright infringement if Alex isn't around to sue them for it.

It is clear that in this case, there must be a certain level of trust and understanding that this is a temporary measure until Alex returns. After that, everything should go back to normal. But ignoring the problem will just lead to the service disappearing. Another problem with such services is the significant dependence on a single person. If it’s a community-driven project rather than a business, things become even less clear. I’ve thought about how to make these projects more sustainable, but I still don’t have a clear answer.

There are plenty of abandoned web sites that have been saved and stood up as a time machine. Much better than losing it forever. I have no problems at all with that happening here, especially since most of the content is user generated. Hopefully someone has the time to attempt this or figure out how a group can participate or contribute.
