These definitely look amazing.

The Butterfly Playing Cards are one of the most amazing marked decks on the market, outside of factory marked Bicycle decks, and my article about them explains why.

They certainly look fantastic in purple!

These came in last week, and I was stoked with how they turned out. It's certainly one of the top marked decks for card magic, given what you can do with it.

Via Penguin Magic you also get access to a 12 minute video tutorial with Ondrej Psenicka himself explaining the markings and introducing the deck.

And the cards just look lovely; I just love the Butterfly back design. It's printed by Cartamundi, so the cards also handle well.

I think these (any of the marked variety, some easier to see than others - silver and gold can be tougher) and DMC (the ones that don’t bleed edge ink) are really must have marked decks

I will note that the single color standard variants faro out of the box best (excellent) - the gilded take some finesse but are also fine (just need to adjust technique a touch to meet them in the middle)- seasons color versions take some edge work on a pair of jeans to polish them up.

For me the silver gilded are just too pretty to not put the minor effort in to get them to work for you. Only problem for me is the added reading difficulty of the reflective silver - but so pretty - and handle super.

These do things others don’t and are most devious - worth putting a pair of glasses on for - some say, and of course this is impossible, that you can rather quickly tell which card is missing from the deck from a few glances at the back of the deck - and I say they are right. That’s a deck shuffled by the spectator - not a stacked one.

It manages to do that, and other things - not a one trick pony, but a bit of a marked multi tool


The DMC are easiest for old eyes and the newer mnemonica versions have that going for them - which is nice.


I also like the old Mirage marking system - but alas - I need stronger glasses to make much use of that - unless I plan to hold the card to my forehead to read it.


But to wrap up, if I didn’t have bricks and bricks of these, I would buy bricks and bricks of these.

I did just pop by DMC by the way - and it would seem we just missed a fire sale - they had a drastic price reduction and all but the gaffs, sharks and alphas are sold out - shame - would have grabbed some (dinged bricks were there for 40 each too - real shame to miss)…

I would pick up some gaffs and alphas but the shipping is still a bear from there - you really need to grab the right bunch of stuff to make it worthwhile on a good day…

Decks with slight imperfections, like minor dings, smudges, or scratches, have been put aside and have never left our warehouse until now.
