I feel a bit discouraged if there is now a third variant of the entire set. I have every variant of every Jocu deck at this point, but I have had to be very financially mindful lately, which is why I'm asking.
The IC variant presentation and tuck etc will be completely different.

I appreciate the input - bear in mind this will be our last project for a very long while, so we're firing on all cylinders to produce the best package we've ever done. It's already an ambitious series, and we wanted to cater for everyone with this mixed funding model.

We likely won't do something so big again spread across Kickstarter and IC, and as you know we'll be pausing our subs in December for the foreseeable, so this will be the series that really sums up everything we've done over the past five years and signs off this period of our creativity, so to speak.

We typically don't do so many variants compared to other creators, but this one has to cover all its bases in one production run due to the high cost. Rest assured the versions will all be very distinct :)

Really REALLY can’t wait for how the IC variant gotta look like. And just like what I did in Under the Moon, afraid I have to give up on the Deluxe Kickstarter set and go for the IC one. Also hoping, that we can do the payment installments thing like last time.

And, when you said you are pausing the subs, does it mean that next year, we won’t be charged?

That's what I did with Under the Moon too, although this is a bit different because the IC Under the Moon Triptych was a separate purchase and the IC Return of the Green Man set is included in our membership.

I'm not a completist and don't need more than two versions of any individual deck. I am currently pledged for the EB standard set plus booklet. However, I really do like the deluxe tucks, and they match that of the limited Green Man Four Seasons deck that's coming to IC members. Considering changing my pledge to one standard deck and adding on the deluxe set and booklet...

My financial situation is not great and I don't see it improving any time soon. But I'm also anticipating a glut of Kickstarter rewards being delivered between now and year's end. I can refrain from supporting campaigns for a while and focus on enjoying what I have. (I think  )

The IC edition is part of the subscription. It's the main part of the reward for this year. So if you're an IC subscriber, you're already getting it. There won't be any extra payments.

I wonder why campaigns just don't keep eb prices. I know it's a marketing strategy to get early backers and keep them but I wonder if keeping eb prices would attract more people in the long run. Tbf, eb prices are already retail so....

its marketing on several levels. one fear of losing your discount. Two people who get swept up in the launch and forget to come back to review later. I have to imagine that for some producers it's a way to move a few extra decks to make print runs make sense by offering a good deal.

I dont think theres much chance I would make a back/not decision if I couldn't get an EB slot.

If I am on the fence about an eb price, then once the cost goes up it's an easy decision.

Echoes my thoughts too. With TWI and Jocu I'm a completionist but 3 versions of a deck (despite the differences) is a bit much. I must admit I'd rather have seen a separate concept for the IC decks this year.

I appreciate the input :) It was always going be a little divisive as an idea, but it initially came from the desire to create a cold-foiled deck on an IC budget that simply wasn't enough to cover the process. Lots of people requested cold foil on INVERNO and CULT but whilst the IC subs would cover the production we'd be left with a lot of decks that we can't sell outside of the IC due to exclusivity.

For this last hurrah of the IC we wanted to meet those requests through combining it with Kickstarter funding, so that way we have the exclusivity of the variants with the significant extra funding from the open market.

Time will tell if we'll use this model again in future, but I'm glad that we can achieve our goals to create such an ambitious series.

Rest assured our plans for the whole package will have plenty of exclusivity in it, so I look forward to being able to share these soon once we can confirm everything 100% (still have to get some final quotes and some design ideas confirmed before we can do that, but I'm very excited about what Alessandra is coming up with :) )

Yeah Kickstarter's internal algorithm favours campaigns with momentum, and crushes campaigns which don't fund quickly. So the timed early bird option is a tool to capture that. If a campaign fails to fund in the first couple of days KS pretty much ceases to promote it and it's basically destined to fail, so it's very front heavy. EBs - as far as we consider it - are just a reward for longtime backers and followers to get a cheaper price.

Most people still don't realise that KS only charges your card when the campaign finishes, so when people see EB prices and think 'I need to wait till payday and the price will go up by then' it's actually incorrect, because you won't get charged anyway but you can snap up the EB price slot in advance. But it's all good, the fewer people pick up the special variant the more limited it will be in the end. Perhaps we'll do a 'late bird' tier in the last few days for UC and PT members :)

LOL for a second there I pondered whether that 'late bird' idea could have merit but quickly realized it would pee a lot of people off unless applied to all pledges

I dont think it would be a productive thing since it would mostly pull people off higher price tiers. You'd have to combine it with something like "a new deck we just released today can only be gotten in these late pledges" which...would also go over REALLY well.

I don't understand. Is jocu saying there will be price differences for a late tier pledge? Have any of the lower tiers sold out? Why would it take people from higher tiers?

I don't think they're seriously considering it.

But if any producer added an ability to get a pledge for less at the last minute then why wouldn't you change your pledge to the lesser price if it was for your existing pledge? (thereby lowering the campaign by that amount) Ive certainly periodically refreshed a campaign when there were early backer pledges and switched to it when one freed up for what I was already getting.

I think the overall loss would be much higher than people knocked off the fence by a last minute deal and you get salt from anyone who didn't know or didnt get in when they were offered.

While you could say some of the same about early backer, I think the perception would be different..I could be wrong.

I don't think he's suggesting a reduced rate for late pledge. To me it referred to his earlier statement about people not having funds sorted in time to pay ks. I think Gio did the late pledge thing recently on gentleman thief decks or chaos decks, not sure. I imagine that is what he meant.

Gio did do a late pledge store for TGt (Chaos "sold out"), as in ability to pledge after the campaign closed, but Im not even sure if it was advertised outside of backers? It felt more like he was testing a new toy from kickstarter.

In any case he just puts stuff up on his own web site pretty quick anyway as a preorder.
