In fact, many foiled cards can be done, in the photography with a specific Angle to play soft light on the line.

This is the photo I took before, with two lights, you can see that the light Angle has a great impact on the effect of the card

This isn't the first time this has happened. I recall Jody having some supply he signed and sold on his site. Other artists have as well. I don't see why the artist shouldn't have some limited stock to do what they want with as a thank you for their work.

This topic was covered on another club deck thread, I think Jody's. The big and skinny of it is that 52+J "allows" each designer to retain a set amount of stock to do with what they please.

The artists for the club deck are are not ‘paid’ per se for their work, but the club flies them to the US for the convention and gives them an allotment of decks to do with as they please as compensation.

Its a beautiful deck. Elettra's presentation at the convention was terrific - the amount of thought, effort, and detail she put in was amazing. LPCC did a wonderful job with the printing & foiling.

The design of the wrap/tuck is stellar, and the production from Boschiero & Newton is second-to-none.

The other kick in the pants is that all of the club deck designers are supremely nice people, and Elettra is no exception.

I just noticed that this is the first 52+J deck printed by LPCC. Used to be EPCC all the while. I wonder what happened this round? Was it mentioned at the con why LPCC?

At last year's convention when presenting the club deck they mentioned that it was the final year of a 10-year agreement between the club and EPCC to produce the club decks.

I think it mostly comes down to options & variety. For example, many club members have mentioned/asked about a USPCC-made (and possibly Bicycle-branded) club deck for the past several years.

Not being in an exclusive agreement with any card producer allows the club to make the deck wherever makes the most sense for the particular project, I guess.

I know that Lawrence Sullivan is a club member as well.

Is there any kind of criteria for a designer to be chosen to do the annual club deck? Like, does he/she HAS to have a credible portfolio that shows they’ve designed tens of decks and have been produced. Or it can be anyone that have designed decks, but all those designs stay as drawings and not made real, or simply put, someone who just think and design cards as a hobby?

I didn’t mind on whoever printed the deck - as long the final outcome is FLAWLESS! Printed by USPCC, go ahead, BUT AS LONG they get their centering damned right! Trying something experimental, make sure it’s working! - who knows if future club decks, itd be MORE than just “make it bling bling gold”.

If USPCC doesn't give them a special deal, I doubt they'd use them as the MOQ is 2,500.

I personally wouldn't want them to use a designer that hasn't made decks. There's plenty of artists in the community to support, so why would they go outside of the community for a designer.

Has anyone that ordered the deck received it yet? I ordered right after being able to, so 10 days ago. I got the charge email from Paypal but that is it. No order confirmation email, no shipping email, nothing.

They will no doubt take a little longer to get to Oz but as well as the Paypal email, I have received 2 emails from Elettra's shopify store confirming the order and the other stating they had been shipped

Or you could support the Club by joining for only $25 per year which would not only give you access to this year’s deck (and probably next years) as well as all the other benefits of being a 52plus Joker Club member. Well worth it I would say, especially since you would be saving the extra shipping for the deck if you aren’t a member (the shipping of your deck to the club member getting it for you and then the shipping to you).

Agreed completely with Sherman. Tons of benefits with a club membership - not the LEAST of which is access to these decks! It's a great way to contribute to a genuine positive force in the collecting community, and I have to say - the content through Card Culture and Clear the Decks have been fascinating reads as well!

I considered that. But I'm not interested in being a member of the club as I would not be using the rest of the membership aspects. And I'm morally against paying a subscription fee (club membership) just in order to be allowed to make a normal purchase. Nothing against people that are willing to, just my choice.

end thread sidetrack, and we now return to our normal enjoyment of new and interesting decks.
