Coin wallet - pocket portal

Recently acquired a Pocket Portal and have gone off on a stint of making some of my own, as the quality of the retail product is “fine” and serviceable but limited in leathers

Also, the retail are single layer leather and the interior snap is exposed, making me nervous for popping my good coins into.


So, as I have piles of high quality veg tanned leather laying around I started whipping up some prototypes to see how different leathers performed, made a half dozen single layer and then a half dozen inner lined ones (currently I am only making ones with inner lining to protect the coins, and because it looks spiffy)


I made a bakers dozen prototypes thus far of varying levels of finish quality and stiffness thus far

In the end found a combo in the blue one in the forefront using goat exterior and a nice soft interior, ordered some more leather which will be here shortly:

Will surely end up with a bunch more than I can use so PM me if you own the Pocket Portal and would like a free upgrade

Those are quite nice, well done! I recently bought a high-quality leather wallet as well as a leather messenger bag - something that will hopefully last me for years to come. How did you get into leatherworking?

Started trying to make some simple protection for some coins and mixed sea life - got out of hand quickly
