Introducing "Frontier: Manifest Destiny", A 10-day illustrative creative experiment of creating a full deck of playing cards inspired by the American West in the late 1800s. Jackson will live stream the creation
of the deck from start to finish over the span of 10 days. Each day he will introduce new characters that the Harrison family encounters. After each session we will add new characters and their respective cards to the Kickstarter project, so you can follow along on the progress of the deck even if you can't join us live.

I'd post the preview link but...well there is nothing to see.
The deck hasn't been drawn yet, theres really nothing on the page of note
normal and gilded version of the deck.

American Wild West… interesting
Would spice it up if it involves… gold digging hehehe
For sure, me being in Asia, i would always missed his livestream (or able to catch it but wont be able to stay to finish)

I'm proud of myself for practicing self-control and only pledging one campaign in 3 months. Odd Fellows and Egypt Mythology were my last two.

Re: Frontier Playing Cards by Kings Wild Project
I'm a bit confused by this Kickstarter. I don't really see how designing the deck during the campaign adds anything to the deck. Moreover, the whole point of him canceling all of the subscriptions was so he could devote a lot more time to making more fully realized projects. Which this seems completely antithetical too.

Re: Frontier Playing Cards by Kings Wild Project
Yeah, it is gimmicky but it is a 10-day window so not a lot of time invested there at least. The pressure to deliver a deck that everyone still wants after they see the courts will hopefully push him creatively. If day turned dark and this didn't actually fund, he'd still have a realized deck he can release if he wants to. All that said, I agree that he hasn't really delivered on the "more fully realized projects" hope.

I agree, I am very disappointed with what KWP has done this year. Hard to maintain the level of quality production he has done in previous years though. I used to really look forward to what was next from him but I rarely think about KWP now.

Re: Frontier Playing Cards by Kings Wild Project
After years of subscribing to Jackson's releases (since the beginning of Kings Wild Shorts), I'm a little sad that he no longer produces anything I'm remotely interested in, save Lord of the Rings. And "Manifest Destiny"? Yikes.

Oh wow, didn't even notice that "Manifest Destinty" part of the name. Definitely not something I would support backing.

The idea is quite interesting, I don't think I've seen this type of campaign before. I've pledged without a reward as I love the KWP decks I own and I would be interested in seeing the creative process more up close. Let's see where this goes.

Re: Frontier Playing Cards by Kings Wild Project
So far its going where you would expect, Man (who looks a lot like Jackson) in 1800s garb holding an rifle, woman in 1800s dress holding a shotgun, Boy in 1800s garb (with a knife in one hand and rattlesnake in the other).
Not my favorite theme, but I dont think we're going to go wild with expensive alternate decks here.

Re: Frontier Playing Cards by Kings Wild Project
Is he really designing the entire deck in the 10 days of the campaign or is it more likely that most of it has already been done, including the main design for the courts...?

He's done an entire deck design in a 24 how live stream before multiple times, so it's likely the whole deck being done.

Re: Frontier Playing Cards by Kings Wild Project
He has to your knowledge created an entire deck from scratch during a 24 hr live stream and so you think he is doing the same thing in a 10 hr span on ks? It's possible but the explanation you give doesn't make much sense to me. If he is creating it from nothing in 10 days then I have to rethink how much the "art" is worth to me.

Re: Frontier Playing Cards by Kings Wild Project
its 10 days, not 10 hours
he did 3 cards today, from scratch, it took over 9 hours (and he looked tired at the end)
(this animation doesnt quite go all the way to the end, he did do the background and index as well.)
Im still waiting for someone to claim its all AI generated.....

Re: Frontier Playing Cards by Kings Wild Project
I have a suspicion that the rampant playing card AI scams on Kickstarter might be one of the reasons Jackson decided to do this campaign and show his creative process live. I've also read Lorenzo Gaggiotti's response to AI accusations on his Eye of the Ocean 2 campaign; seems like real artists are fed up with AI con artists ruining the previously established integrity of this industry.

He's explaining what the belief was, which is historically accurate. It doesn't mean he holds those beliefs currently or personally.

He is creating everything from the get go, from blank canvas, on LIVE streaming on YouTube. In 10 days, he would always stream, where you can see him live drawing all of it. If you missed them, you can watch the timelapse of the drawing. Not caring for watching them, just keep refreshing the KS page every day.

Meet the Harrisons: Samuel, Eliza, and Jonah
As I am posting, Jackson is designing the characters for the Hearts
TMI:
I briefly googled about "Manifest Destiny" and heard it from another member in a Discord Group I'm in, and that phrase is definitely not a great thing to hear - more like a toxic mentality that the Americans developed in the 1800s. But I hope that this phrase is only within 1800s and it doesn't survived today. I can't say more since I am not a pledged American.
I am into this campaign since I am curious on how Jackson is going to pull it off. Also, story about some people quest for gold in the Wild West, that is something I like to listened to, ever since my memorable visit to Sovereign Hill in Australia

Re: Frontier Playing Cards by Kings Wild Project
It's not in our vocabulary. And like a lot of things it means different things to different people apparently.
I had to google it to see why people were having issues with it, because I DIDN'T have a definition of it in my head other than just what the two words mean individually.
Honestly I was expecting to find a worse definition than what I found.

You have to remember the context as well and what 'Manifest Destiny" directly lead to. What happened to the Native American populations was a direct and intended result.Evilgamer wrote: ↑Thu Aug 15, 2024 8:16 am It's not in our vocabulary. I'm aware of what the term means and thought it fit perfectly, historically, to describe the story as it was during this time the phrase was created and used.
As for the native Americans, I totally agree, the settlers, and more specifically the US government completely screwed and robbed them.
That's why the three native Americans that the Harrison family meets in the Monatana / Wyoming territory impart their love of the land and their own native heritage onto the Harris family. The son of the chief (JoD) befriends Jonah Harrison (JoS) and shares stories of his people and the land.
I'll be doing the Cheyenne Chief and his family tomorrow, which are probably some of the cards I'm most excited about.
