There were no other messages -- and the single PM that double_left was banned for would be bannable no matter the sequence of events

I hate to upset your theory Jazz but that Pm came totally out of the blue. I had never had any communication with Double. I had him on block (unbeknownst to him) purely because I had found some of his posts distasteful. Nevertheless in run of the mill topics I generally clicked on his posts to read them anyway.

Honeybee, just popping on to say I'm sorry that happened to you. Even knowing double's proclivities, it still hurts when people try to demean you like that. Miscommunications happen all the time and so I try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, but it saddens me that some people also are just plain out to hurt others.

My feelings are in line with most. Sorry it happened. It is necessary to back up claims sometimes when they are fantastic and also possible to do so without feeling like you have any burden to prove yourself. Bee chose to publicly shame the person, which made it fair game to inquire. What I can gather from all this is that the comment was unnecessarily rude, but that is my perspective from the outside and without any relationship history knowledge between them. I do not agree with bullying or unprovoked harassment.

There might have been other ways to handle it, but when people get mugged they are free to react from the hip.

Doubt it would have gone done differently in any case. Someone would have asked why double was banned, and it would have found it’s way out, or made its own problem.

Didn’t everybody almost instantly realize that a former now banned member behaved like an absolute _i__ in 99.9% of his posts? To question if there was something, from another member that has never even came close to d_ckish behaviour, to provoke the _i__, is somewhat funny, not gonna lie.

My defense was giving back some because I observed unnecessary language . I don't feel the need to block people. How did asking about the incident become a problem? I searched for details, which were graciously provided. Thank you for your time.

I don't know if I fully understand your comment. Are you saying it's funny to want to hear both sides of a story in order to reach conclusions? Or is it funny to think that people do not do things without reason? I think you are saying that because you have seen 1 side being a whatever and the other side not, that it's funny to think there could be any explanation other than he was being a whatever. Is this correct? I don't understand the part about not lying. Why do you have to tell me you aren't lying?

I am not aware of who the most abusive people are and I don't know what is suspect or odd about asking questions to find out why his behavior was as such. I understand the connection you are making while citing his apparent constant abuse and the actions of abuse or harassment shown in his pm in relation to the conclusion drawn but I can not rely on that as being accurate. All the details provided have helped to formulate an opinion for me (accurate or not). I can not say that because something was one way in the past, that it must be that way in the present and future. I will not say that someone is a bad person and so there is no need or was no need to ask why. That does not make sense to me.

I like to think the same - and it was my hope that double, as rough edged as he was, would soften - but in general was allowed to be a grouch. But it was not the first step over the line, and there is only so much we can tolerate.

In this case a personal attack done via unsolicited PM - as bad as it gets. And with the history of grump and line crossing, nothing to cause anyone to argue for his salvation with a temporary ban. It was just too likely that another user would get bitten.

I will also rephrase - grumpy was too kind a euphemism - harv can be grumpy, I love grumpy - double was often mean spirited and aggressive.

Mind you, we can all be mean spirited and aggressive from time to time, in life and on the better part of the rest of the internet. Here though we have a certain pre-described tolerance point.

But if you find that “from time to time” becomes pretty much “all the time” you may be unable to be in a card forum and control yourself, or so the tale of double-left goes….

I do not fantasize that he was outside of this forum the nicest guy you ever met, nor do I do I imagine that he is horrible - he just liked to vent, and so be it.

In this particular case both is funny to me - no offense.
Trying to be as objective as possible and wanting to hear both sides is honorable in general but in this case, where it is pretty easy to connect the dots, it is somewhat a waste of time imho but everyone is free to do as one pleases.
