My 17th Kingdom Experimental are just about my No.1 deck for so many reasons but I am not feeling these (yet?)

I'm not a fan of the card shape, but I'm definitely a fan of the court card artwork.

The art on the cards does show potential but I also have little interest in the shape. 17th Kingdom is a novelty but this is not. I like playing cards and these look like coasters.

Seems like I’m the only one in here for now who’s feeling this shape more than 17th Kingdom. The only thing that really spoke to me from 17th Kingdom was the back design. If I wouldn’t have gotten some as a patreon, I would not own any 17th Kingdom decks. This project however peaks my interest. From a cardistry perspective this shape is very interesting as well.

I'm all for novelty shaped decks! Plus it's a Stockholm 17 product. Win-win for me!!

I'm digging this one also. I like the novelty of different shaped decks and I'm a fan of what he's shown for the art here so far as well.

I love the art as always but wondering how to even store these, hes shown a prototype of the tuck where all 4 corners are exposed...thats not going to be good for longevity

A stand of some sort? I have a cell phone stand that I use that would probably work well for it and was pretty cheap. Something like that or just flat on it's back if in a drawer.

I am predicting a special carat case again
I got the special ones for The 17th Kingom but they also fitted in a regular carat sleeve - maybe these will too

Re: The Cyclopeans by Stockholm17
I am thinking of how to make this case. A diamond shape would be simplest, but then how do you stand it up. Also, from my reading of Lorenzo’s last Patreon post, it seems that if you rotate these cards 30some degrees, they will fit inside the borders of a standard poker card, so then these should also fit in a standard Carat Case

It's a rhombus, so the angles aren't 90° but it's sized in a way where it can fit in a standard tuck.

Maybe you could just create an insert for the standard carat similar to the mini carat w/micro insert? Speaking of...is there anywhere to get more of those micro inserts? I need one more.I am thinking of how to make this case. A diamond shape would be simplest, but then how do you stand it up. I love non-traditional shaped cards for the most part, and these look awesome. I'm sure they will just get better and better the more L tinkers.

Re: The Cyclopeans by Stockholm17
I enjoy the occasional non-traditional shaped decks, and Uusi's round deck and the 17th Kingdom are among the best of the non-traditional shaped decks I've ever seen. (I also love mini-decks and giant decks, but I admit I'm kind of a weirdo.)
That said, two things leap out at me regarding this project. The first is: the art isn't singing to me. The second is: the last time the art of a Lorenzo project didn't really sing to me while it was in development, holy crap did I love the finished product once it was in my hands. I mean... Lorenzo's work is simply a feast for the eyes every. damn. time.
I think one of the profound strengths of the decks Lorenzo makes (and certain others make) is the effort he puts into the theme/story behind the art. This is true of so many artists I admire, be they visual or audio or written: *most* of the best works of art have a sense of story and depth behind them that adds a richness to the art even when it's not expressed in an obvious way. Card designers who approach their craft with a sense of story or theme include not only Lorenzo, but also Gio, Jackson, Randy, RJ, TGW, Lotrek, Rick Davidson, Uusi, Emmanuel Jose, and so many others, which is no doubt a large part of why I love their stuff.
Design? Yes. Cleverness? Sure. Technical innovation? Naturally. But the depth that comes from the artist having a vision? HELL, YEAH.
So, all by way of saying, yeah, these aren't grabbing me... yet. But, Imma pick them up because I've been so very pleasantly surprised before by Lorenzo's work.

Re: The Cyclopeans by Stockholm17
I believe that the shape and size allows the deck to fit inside a standard X1, but at an angle and with just enough room (one of the indexed corners would be in the top right corner of the case while the other indexed corner would be in the bottom left corner, if that makes sense)balrog326 wrote: ↑Mon May 20, 2024 11:47 amMaybe you could just create an insert for the standard carat similar to the mini carat w/micro insert? A standard carat X1s interior dimensions are 94 x 69mm, whereas the new Cyclopeans will be 75.4x105.3mm with 75.4mm being the dimension from one corner to the opposite corner and the 105.3mm being the dimension from one of the indexed corners to the other.
@balrog326, hit me up in August and I might be able to help you with a micro insert

Re: The Cyclopeans by Stockholm17
I think an elongated hexagon (the reverse of 17th Kingodom) would be a superior shape
and result in a deck/tuck/carat case that could stand up
Where to place the Indices might be problematic

I am really digging what I've seen so far. I appreciate the non-traditional shape and tuck on this one one more so than 17th Kingdom (also a really cool deck). It might be that I just like the artwork on this one more. Either way, excited to see where this one goes

I could imagine there's a standee to hold the Diamond shaped case!shermjack wrote: ↑Mon May 20, 2024 3:52 amI am thinking of how to make this case. Card Designer like Stockholm17 and UUSI created odd-shaped decks that won't look like those cheap souvenir decks (no offense for those who collect souvenir decks)

A Lorenzo sabacc shaped deck would look 100% better - his 17th Kingdom are SO good and can you imagine him doing a follow up which fitted together with the 17th Kingdom, like a jigsaw
