False Idols by Joker and the Thief (ill. Joaquín Nava / JOACO)
At their best, Joker and the Thief court designs are creative, and unique with a flair that I love (see: Maidens, Pyschonauts, and Wayfarers). Personally, im not a fan of their standard courts which they've featured on their past few projects. When I saw this sneak peak on their IG, I got excited.
This Mezo American inspired art is something I'd back 10/10. Here's to hoping the rest of the deck looks as cool as this card does!

Re: New Joker and Thief Deck Preview
in isolation from the rest of the deck design, this court snippet doesn't really tickle my fancy but i am glad to see JT doing custom courts again. i maintain that even custom courts made to look like standard courts just count as standard courts for me. that along with JT having pretty bland, simple tucks and backs recently i have not been purchasing them. lets see if this gets them back on the rails.

They never left the fully custom path. Psychonauts release wasn't that long ago imho. Between their fully custom decks they've always sprinkled in less complex projects like recolours or cardistry focused decks.

New Joker and the Thief - False Idols
Looks like this deck finally has a name - "False Idols". I'm definitely backing this when it comes out

I'm happy to see James and Pedro going for another fully custom project but these most likely won't be for me. I'm still curios to see the tuck box for these; I can imagine it'll be a great one.

Re: New Joker and the Thief - False Idols
Fair enough. This design style is right up my alley but like you, I'm glad they are working on another fully custom deck. I'm hoping the tuck pops in color the Pyschonauts AOP edition. We'll have to wait and see.Harvonsgard wrote: ↑Thu Apr 25, 2024 10:43 am I'm happy to see James and Pedro going for another fully custom project but these most likely won't be for me. Re: False Idols by Joker and the Thief
Ks can offer amazing things for sure but when it comes to JT I would rather buy off their website after the campaign, if possible. The price of the KS and shipping is more expensive for me as an international rather than buy from the website with a discount code or sale and similar shipping cost. I can get other decks from older releases as well to make it more worth it to me. I think the KS price system is a bit broken when the brands offer them cheaper later. The argument may be that without KS the cards don't get made but that is not true for many as people choose to sell there instead of selling in their shop and the cards would be made either way.KGthePrince wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2024 11:52 am I've been told that the launch date is tentatively within the next two weeks
EDIT: I think JT cards are pretty cool!!! I wanted to make sure that you know I am a fan and the pictures make me excite

Re: False Idols by Joker and the Thief
Everything has to go on clearance some day, so the kickstarter pricing isn't exactly broken, just because some decks become cheaper if they don't sell out initially.
I get your point though and I prefer buying J&T decks from them directly as well.

Re: False Idols by Joker and the Thief
Many decks hit the webshops within a month or 2 after the campaign fulfillment, often with similar prices at first but with 10-20% discount codes available and then later on sale for even less. Even if it is only free shipping at first, it makes a big difference on the price of 1 or 2 decks. I'm not interested in overpaying on ks so that they are cheaper for everyone later. JT has a 30% off discount code available and so I can wait for products to reach their shop. I paid 8.50usd for my Dystopia deck.Harvonsgard wrote: ↑Sat Jun 22, 2024 7:04 am Everything has to go on clearance some day, so the kickstarter pricing isn't exactly broken, just because some decks become cheaper if they don't sell out initially.

Re: False Idols by Joker and the Thief
I feel you, Jazzbaloo. Shipping costs are a huge factor for all of us. Since I live in the US, and J&T fillfills from here, I don't have the same incentive as you to wait it out. Those discounts you mentioned are crazy tempting

Re: False Idols by Joker and the Thief
I hate overpaying for cards so I am constantly hunting the deals. If I miss out on a deck that I wasn't willing to pay a lot for, then oh well. Others may not have the same restraint. I like to wait for sales and then apply a discount code on top of it. Like when the Wayfarers decks were on sale for 8 or 9 dollars... plus 30% discount...I am quite happy with this collecting strategy. It stops me from making as many impulse buys which saves money and the prices are heavily reduced, which saves a lot more. My opinion is that the custom playing card scene got out of hand with high prices, which aren't sustainable, and have only recently begun to get dialed back. Anyone who is an advocate for higher prices is imo contributing to the collapse. Too dark? Lol. The card teases have excited me and I'm rather interested in what this campaign will offer. Perhaps if it funds successfully then I may be able to pick them up in shops afterwards. I'm still waiting to see what will become of the Reserve decks and Borderless and Crown decks after fulfillment. Way to go J&T awesome cards.KGthePrince wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2024 1:38 pm I feel you, Jazzbaloo. Shipping costs are a huge factor for all of us. I may be wrong but this is the first time I've seen J&T use different color stock. Excited about this one for sure! 2 week countdown

Loving that back and tuck so far. Elements of Hindu/Mandala/Hamsa/Indian art?
That picture almost makes it look like navy blue stock, but I'm sure it's just the borders.

Also it is blue stock! If you look at my previous comment you can see they are releasing two versions

Did they state it will be blue stock somewhere? It looks like black stock with blue lighting or filters to me.KGthePrince wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2024 1:52 pm Also it is blue stock! If you look at my previous comment you can see they are releasing two versions

Re: False Idols by Joker and the Thief
If I remember correctly the inspiration is Mayan/Aztec.
Dark stock looks tasty for this one. But I still doubt I grab some of these unless I'll find them at a sale at J&T or Socal.

Joaquín has such a cool aesthetic. Can't wait to see how the rest of this deck looks.

The art is great but these look tough for gameplay.

I'm not sure how I feel about these courts. The more I see, the less excited I am. I feel like this deck had so much potential. Curious what others think
