I sure hate to have such a deck among my prized collection... It's a sad and regretful experience, both for the creator and for the backers.
Sometime you must understand that you are incrediblely lucky to have another change to make it right.
I mostly collect Stockholm17 and always looking for any S17 New/Opened decks/ accessories: Brick Boxes, prints, coins, Pins, ect... If you have some weird small thing and want to trade/sell please let me know! If you are also a fan and have free time to chat, feel free to send me a PM!

Oh, I think I got such decks like that:
Luna Moon - Helios Sun - Esther Star deck by Boccopo, the early days of Kevin Yu. I believe the KS was successfully funded before it received copyright infringement strike. It was resolved, yet what Bocoppo did leave a black mark in the card community

Swiski66 wrote: Sun Jan 15, 2023 7:03 am Maybe that was his plan all along with the rerun. The controversy from the first Kickstarter would drum up enough attention, therefore more pre-sales this time around. Collectors would love to own a deck with controversy involved, showing it to people layer saying "This is the deck where the artist stole other people's artwork, and I got an exclusive Kickstarter edition deck before it's cancelled for general public release!"
This sounds conspiratorial. It definitely had the complete opposite effect on me. I will be weary of all future projects by him.

Frankly, I appreciate those who did their due diligence and discovered the copyright infringements which led to the campaign being canceled. I am not sure why the re-launch was rushed given we are still seeing copyright infringement.

Some decks by Edo Huang similarly had used clip art but claimed to be original, which is why I don't look at his newer offerings. And, as others here have mentioned, I no longer consider Bocopo decks for the same reason.

Whereas, the Chicken Nuggets campaign had been taken down for violating IP even though it was clearly a parody and not a theft (a bullshit IP strike if ever there was one), and I *will* pick up those kinds of decks when opportunity presents itself. YMMV.

Well, it might be... yet the copying acts were not really noticable until it was too late.
One that I can point out is his Sacrifice Playing Cards - The Ace of Spades is somewhat a copy from Malam Playing Cards.

It's both brave and stupid. He already lost his credibility amongst those in the know. But to those who don't it's business as usual. I backed the first time around, not the second and certainly not the third. I have also removed his previous decks from my collection. I have done this in the past to creators I no longer have respect for. Daniel Madison, Bocopo, Natalia Silva and the like have no spot on my shelves.
I haven't slept for ten days, because that would be too long.

Indeed weird kickstarter moves. I doubt that three will be a charm here. If I would have backed two times and got a cancel notification every time, I wouldn't bother to back a third time.

Hi all, Iam Thanh Phan, the worst playing cards designer as you know till the moment, i have to accept with no reasons. I just try my last chance with KS, with your trusts… cause currently i live my last longlife with these projects.
Why i told this cause i have quited my job for fulltime playing cards designer more than 1 year ago.

I should start a betting pool based on how many days this will go before someone finds a new round of IP theft. The fact that Thanh is still involved and will update with his point of view tells me they don't understand how serious this issue is to a lot of collectors. They already have 30% of their funding with a few weeks to go, so it obviously doesn't matter to a few backers at least.
It seems funny that we re-launch this project again but this is a long story indeed. Thanh Phan, the designer of this deck, will let you know his story on the update soon. He has received a lot of criticism and he cannot blame anyone else for any reason. BUT again, he has to work to live, he tried to create a whole new look for his characters. The missing characters of the missing cards will be updated during the project lifetime via updates.

If nobody finds any IP theft, then I say best of success to you, Thanh Phan.

These do look nice. Slightly busy for my taste, but as long as they are legit originals, I'm sure they'll find their audience.

In this campaign, Hoa admits that he has used his campaign funds to help pay for shipping for his previously run campaigns.
Hoa Phan wrote:I quit my job and worked as a fulltime playing cards designer almost 2 years ago when I found out Kickstarter and started my projects. Due to my lack of experiences, my first projects had financial difficulties in the shipping stage and till now, so I often used the funds of the later project to compensate for the previous project.
In Botanical V2, Thanh Phan sent an update that he is almost bankrupt and unable to fulfill Botanical decks (his previous campaign) at this time, despite the decks being ready. I am aware that others have reached out to him offering to pay for shipping but he has declined. He has asked his backers for two months in order to fulfill the pledges. This leads me to believe he may be waiting for Royal Warriors to complete so that he has funds to print the project and ship out his previous one.
Thanh Phan wrote:The unfortunate things that happened to me recently made my life a mess, a financial crisis, to be honest I was almost bankrupt. Everything is ready but it has to be delayed for a while, I promise to try everything to solve my problems, including having to sell all to fulfill my responsibilities. I would like to ask you for a period of about 2 months to do this.
I personally don't want to take a risk as I still wait for the Botanical V2 decks to be fulfilled. This is also aside from the copyright infringement. I feel for them both and hope they can get their things in order because it's going to take a lot for me to trust them again.

I lost everything because of my stupid mistakes. It's a shame to lose your trust, it will take a long time to regain it and possibly never. Anyway, thank you for supporting the previous projects and I sincerely apologize for what I have brought to the playing cards community.

I genuinely believe that there is room for rebuilding trust. Coming clean, as you appear to be doing, is a good first step. Fulfilling previous obligations would likely be the next step.

My guess is that your next project might not fly as a KS project, but perhaps if you were to fund a small run on your own and then sell it via retailers, that might show the kind of good faith to start to rebuild that trust. Nonetheless, that's all in the future. In the meantime, it's all about what you can do to fulfill any outstanding commitments and then moving on from there.

I'm sorry to hear about your personal crises. I hope you are able to pull out from under them and rebuild upon a stronger foundation.

Owning your mistakes shows integrity. Best of success to you as you consider your next steps.

Hello I’m new here. Been posting photos of decks on Reddit and IG for a while. Posted photos of the Botanical deck the other day and someone kindly let me know that this creator uses stolen art. Really wish I had known that before spending money and time on that.

I also realized that the new deck on kickstarter from this creator is using AI generated art. Not only is it obvious by looking at it, but even AI detectors see it in very low resolution crops from the photos in the campaign.

The discussion of “support” of an artist - Nguyễn Duy Nhựt - vs it being done by one, and it certainly isn’t that artists style - certainly doesn’t seem like an actual artist produced it, unless you count the machines.

That being said - both chatGPT and some online detector I tried both said it was human generated

Only one thing for sure - I have a hard time trusting this producer and won’t be a customer until that changes

It is pretty though, had it stated it used AI I would have 0 problem with it

I get the feeling that its “art from any source to fill a tuck” in any case
