honestly other than maybe repunzle these are obviously meant to instantly be recognizable as big well known characters but are any of them actually close enough to be something a judge would actually rule against (not that you need to win to convince someone to take their art down).

ok that statue and calling it Ariel is pretty on the nose. Quick search was a little inconclusive on whether the original story called Belle by that name.

Not my kind of deck either way.

I shot them a message on kickstarter and they replied “Sorry to say it, but you are wrong! My illustrations have nothing to do with Disney illustrations of these characters. Look again at the Disney characters and my illustrations, and you will see the big difference. These are characters from children's fairy tales that are told all over the world. The interpretation of the characters from the respective Disney films is radically different from my interpretation.”

The problem with denial is a lot of people won't experience circumstances that lead them to acceptance. This artist will get a good dose of reality soon. RIP to this project that was a waste of time. Hopefully his interpretation and artistic process was enough for him, as these won't see the light of day.

Different cultures may have different interpretations but the Walt Disney Culture doesnt like people having roughly the same idea.

And this isnt a case of a single card...I know I'm not entirely sure a judge would agree with them but past history says they arent going to be a fan.

i am no expert, or novice even, in copyright law but the resemblance is questionable at the very least. there are only 4 out of the 16 that i think could be a problem. the art itself does look very good.

with that being said, i will keep a tab open and if it makes it near the end of the campaign i will highly consider backing simply because i would like to see a deck like this made without giving disney a dime because smurf disney.

Keep in mind that Disney could still cause a fuss after the campaign is over, and before decks reach anyone's hands.

very true and something worth considering as the creator would not be obligated to refund you if they have to stop production as far as i understand.
