Btw, I sincerely don't get what was tasteless about my joke. Is it the to me pretty obvious and sarcastic understatement of "bad times"? I found it quite poignant.

Maybe tasteless isn't exactly the right word. I get the dark humor, it just came out of left field without much context, and context is everything.

Like:

person A: "i'm winning!"

person B: "You're not winning, you're whining!"

person A: "Remember the SS? Those guys sucked...."

person C: "....wut?"



On a more serious note, my wife is German, and we have family in Germany, so I may be more aware of what you speak than some. However, Americans have also proved that on the whole, we are no better in that regard. Indeed much of the world seems to be swinging back towards authoritarianism. I was one of those who thought it couldn't happen here, and I now believe it could very much happen anywhere.

Not the exact timeline.
The joke came after @hsbc pointed out that ironically I misspelled a word after making the joke that @rouselle misspelled a word - which he obviously didn't.
Then I moved on with admitting that I, even more ironically, have trouble remembering that you write misspelled with two s which I jokingly explained with the troubled past we had here in Central Europe.
Certainly out of the left field but that's how I operate and quite some of my mates as well. It's what I'm used to and I can see that folks that don't know me personally see that as odd.
But yah, hidden behind the rugged-edge humour I'm quite a serious guy that believes (to an Jung'ian extent that I would say I don't believe - I know) that there is too much ignorance and too few true empathy in this world. This is why I like to sprinkle in stuff that I deem is important to know or to remember without coming off as riding the moral high horse or that fellow that always needs to lecture the ones around him. If that makes sense .

I had always wanted to see a live orchestra so, last year, I booked tickets to see a concert named Classics at the Movies, ie. classical music that has been used in movies, at the Birmingham symphony Hall; it was bloody amazing. The only minor downside was that the first piece they played was Also Sprach Zarathrustra, the theme from 2001: A Space Odyssey, which, quite frankly, blew my tits off, and, whilst I really enjoyed most of the other pieces, they were all secondary to that first one.

I also booked to see Spider-Man into the Spiderverse concert, which comprised of the movie on a big screen with an orchestra, and a DJ, playing the soundtrack in sync. It's one of my favourite movies and it was superb.

The next one I booked was movie scores and themes such as Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones and so on. Unfortunately, I had a chest infection and couldn’t go, but my family still went; I wasn’t too bothered about missing it until my brother mentioned they played Gollum's Song and “it was fantastic.”

How, the question sits, does one become “last”?

Is it something someone can become - a state of mind or being? Is it something that can be measured by man or is it purely under the purvey of God?

Does last indeed mean final, or does it mean “to remain fresh or unimpaired - to endure” in which case, won’t all of these posts “last” or “not last” together?
