Re: Horsemen - Kickstarter 1st June
Although I'm not surprised, I am disappointed because it looked like it was going to be a good deck. I don't think this was a scam. It is a project that fell apart, and he couldn't put it right. These are the risks any creator takes and the chances of this happening may indeed be greater when backing a rookie creator. But at some point, all of the creators we support right now were rookies as well. This one is unfortunate, but it was apparent early on that it wasn't going to end well. Now about those NPCCD decks...
I haven't slept for ten days, because that would be too long.

Re: Horsemen - Kickstarter 1st June
I agree, as much as people say "I dont want KS to be a storefront" this is the alternative when you really need the money to do the project, sometimes it just doesn't work out. At least they are refunding as much as they can.

I have to agree with the "not a scam" opinion. Aside from knowing Tony, I have prototypes of the two main decks and I don't think a scammer would bother having those printed.james001a wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2024 6:08 pm Although I'm not surprised, I am disappointed because it looked like it was going to be a good deck. Sounds extremely unlucky. When it comes to KS, if you expect to win every time - Don't gamble

Re: Horsemen - Kickstarter 1st June
I feel for Tony. He didn't help matters with the silence, but he went through a lot and there is plenty of animosity on KS surrounding that project. I wanted this to get produced so it's a sad day. I think it took a lot to make the update. Had he remained silent, the deck still wouldn't have been produced, so it says a lot that he offered an explanation with the bad news.

The comments on KS are brutal and honestly makes me sick. I don’t know what is true or not but people are really out for blood.
I guess everyone forgets that KS is not a guarantee and you should never gamble with money you can’t afford to lose.

Re: Horsemen - Kickstarter 1st June
I'm a little conflicted on this one. I had already written this one off, so I'm not upset at all. And with all that's happened , him coming back and writing this up knowing what some of the response would be is appreciated and took some guts. Still, it feels like he's being somewhat dishonest about the circumstances here a bit and shifting a lot of the blame. The bit about Cartamundi supposedly canceling the project because of a few people reaching out to them trying to get info in particular didn't sit well with me. Also, couldn't the printed by Cartamundi part on the tucks have been covered with a sticker if he went with a different printer? Regardless of all that though, I'm glad to see him posting something as it means that he's at least somewhat doing better. Hopefully things continue to improve for him. In the end it's just cards and there are far more important things.

The coin is amazing. Will pick up a set if this project gets revived one way or another.

Tis a shame, I tried to ask if I could I do a late pledge when I started collecting as I missed this project. Back then I was not aware of the situation.
That said, would you be willing to sell one of the prototypes Tim as I really like the art.

If the producer consents, such a deck can be scanned and reprinted by MPC for a limited print run. Just a thought.

He could probably release the card files to backers to do just that also.

Re: Horsemen - Kickstarter 1st June
He just posted an update with a link to file a claim for a 30% refund. The better part of the update ( at least for me) is that he provided a link to all the files for the cards themselves. So I'm going to print them out via MPC for myself, as after all this, I want to see a version of this deck finished.

I'll let you guys know. I'll try to put some effort into it over the next few weeks. Though it looks like it's gonna require some tinkering. The first few card images I tried uploading, the MPC website was saying the images were too low resolution and would likely print blurry. I'll keep tinkering though.

Re: Horsemen - Kickstarter 1st June
Some cards look to be 815 x 1110 with others being 748 x 1043; both with a resolution of 300 x 300.
The collectors deck are mostly 778 x 1084 and three cards 815 x 1100; again at a resolution of 300 x 300.
The tucks are 2138 x 1379

Re: Horsemen - Kickstarter 1st June
I think I am just going to go for it and see how bad they come out. I got low resolution errors on every single card. I tried both collectors and standard. MPC says the DPI should be 300 https://www.makeplayingcards.com/pops/f ... 20(300DPI). which it does show that in photoshop when I open a random card.

Re: Horsemen - Kickstarter 1st June
Well, whoever does it, allow me to suggest you figure out your pricing at the lowest and second lowest pricing tier for MPC (plus shipping, etc.), how much that works out to total for your cost per deck, and how much of a Pain In The Ass tax you would prefer to add for your time, and let us know? Maybe? Please? I think a couple of us here would be happy to share the cost with you and likely bring your total outlay down…

Re: Horsemen - Kickstarter 1st June
K, nevermind. MPC emailed me after my order, and they told me most of the cards I uploaded pics of will be cut off on the pips. I asked for a template which they sent me. The card sizes provided don't match MPC's template size, and if I resize the pics to match their preferred size, a lot of the artwork (mostly pips) are outside their cutting area. So after matching the canvas size, you'd need to then resize the actual artwork (make it smaller to fix their cutting area) and when you do that, you're left with empty space on the perimeter of the file, which MPC says also needs to have some kind of artwork on it just in case their printer cuts it in a way that leaves some white space or something.

Re: Horsemen - Kickstarter 1st June
In my defense, I am a complete photoshop noob so I am probably doing it wrong anyway. But this was how I tried it, I uploaded a few cards to MPC and the errors stopped happening. But there is most likely a much faster and easier way to accomplish what I tried to do.

Re: Horsemen - Kickstarter 1st June
Another update (assuming I'm doing this right). So the standard cards have a white background. After resizing each artwork to fit the 822x1122 size MPC wants, and reducing the size of the art to fit their template, I'm left with basically empty space around the art. Like an empty border. Since the cards have a white background, you can just use a fill tool to fill that outer part with white.
This is infinitely easier to do than the collector's edition cards which have a drawn artistic background. You can't just fill it with white. I tried using the clone stamp tool in photoshop to fill in that outer perimeter, and it works alright. But I don't know about the legality here. It is definitely messing with the original artwork. With the standard cards, it feels much less like I'm messing with the original artwork.
Tony did give out the cards to get printed, but does that mean we can alter them to fit templates? I don't know so I'm staying away from the collector's edition. But I wanted to share a few screenshots just to better demonstrate what I'm talking about in case it's unclear. How I've tried to do it (someone who knows how to use photoshop or make cards fit a template please feel free to correct me. I hope there is an easier way):
1) open the card, resize to 822x1122, drag the MPC template on top of it.
2) resize card so it fits in the red dotted area (MPC safe line)
3) delete the MPC template layer, left with empty border
4) fill in border. for collector's ed I was clone stamping, for standard it's just a white fill
collector's ed: standard ed:

Re: Horsemen - Kickstarter 1st June
I got to say, the state of the files and their borders in particular makes clear that a final order had truly never been placed with Cartamundi as had been accused in the campaign comments. A couple commenters there said that they reached out to Cartamundi about the project and Cartamundi indicated that was the case, but some were skeptical. What's done is done, but I thought that was interesting.

Re: Horsemen - Kickstarter 1st June
What's weird is the files are all sorts of dimensions. I don't know if this is maybe because of cartamundi's template? Maybe that's what they were working off of. This mpc template might have different dimensions and safe areas for cutting. If they got to the stage where they placed an order with cartamundi, they probably would've notified them of all these sizing issues to standardize their files (same dimensions, so the pips line up across cards, etc) for submission like mpc notified me the next day that whatever I uploaded would come out all sorts of f'd up.

This is a very good point. Although I do own an MPC-printed prototype of each deck and they are positioned correctly – excuse my crappy photos.
Maybe I should send them to macstrat and ask him to scan them.
