I've been saying this ever since I got into the hobby:

THERE NOT NEARLY ENOUGH PLAYING CARD KICKSTARTERS THAT OFFER CARD GUARDS AS ADD-ONS OR STRETCH GOALS. How? It's such a ubiquitous accoutrement to any who actually play cards, poker or otherwise.

Still very down on this campaign, but this is cool to see.

Do you mean that Playing cards campaign should have at least CARD GUARD as an add or / stretch goal?

Card guards, custom cut cards, absolutely yes. Would be a welcome addition.

You guys voted for gunmetal? :? I understand if you didn't backed the poker coins but gunmetal would be very similar to the big blind coin (antique silver)
I hope they stick with the matte black inquiry.

Once again, Wyrmwood's lack of understanding (or blatant disregard) of something I explained to them in detail..
My reccomendation was the card guard to be in antique brass (which was the original color used for the small blind coin in the samples before we decided to switch it to copper). THUSLY, all four coins would be varied in tone yet uniform. Antique Gold, Antique Silver, Antique Copper and Antique Bronze. Instead they hastily put out an update without considering this. It's really annoying.

The other finishes were only for future reference. But I'm tired of fighting for logic.

Oh well, hopefully Corrupted will be the last one you’ve worked with them… I don’t want to deal with WyrmWood anymore. Any playing cards they made after Corrupted, if there wasn’t your name on it, I ain’t getting them

Honestly I think they just lack any understanding of aesthetics or design consistency. All they saw was "Gunmetal and Black" and were like "Oh my god that's so cool!" and didn't even stop to realize that it doesn't go with the decks at all.
I've spent way more than I care to admit on playing cards, but I'll still buy just about anything that Lorenzo, Jackson, or Gio make.

They're pretty big on aesthetics for their wood product and that parts for a "family" have consistency so I dunno about that part.

Really any metal product doesn't go with the decks, I get that having it be instantly visually different from the other metal product has its merits. The color of this coin isn't a hill I would die on (but then again this coin will never leave its plastic bag for me, Im only here for the cards).

I do think Omar and WW need to go their separate ways after corrupted though.

Out of curiosity, why are you and your coin supplier still messing around with glossy finishes on heavily-detailed coins? It did not work out on Goldsmith, I guess it did not work out this time either.

For me personally, I would take the gold plated glossy coins in both cases. But knowing the community is not up for it, so...

I guess to JUST LEAVE THEM BE as a woodworking producers.. as they are only the expert at them and not ready for other things… i am thinking because of the mixed up in products, thats how the Duties and Tax calculations also messed up…

Duties and taxes they appear to be relying on someone else to calculate, and that outside plugin certainly came up with some eye watering numbers that I still cant imagine are right.

Shipping...somehow they've never been good at keeping shipping costs down, especially internationally. As I think Ive said before I think I paid them $500 for shipping a desk (that they haven't even started making yet a year after ordering..needless to say this order was a mistake) when they have competitors who ship for free. They were literally shipping bricks to make "freight minimums" for their tables at one point because they couldn't figure out how to do it cheaper.

Other than that I dont think youre off...theyre (generally) good at making wood things, if maybe not cheaply...other things not so much.
They also have to really have things go wrong to face a situation where they need to make changes.

samples are in short version, groundskeeper is good, corrupted could be a little better.

interesting that the original cartamundi samples were noticeably off center but again...this is why you do samples.

I'll reiterate, as someone like me who just got into collecting cards (~20 decks), having my first Cartamundi deck on my hand felt like it is something else and it's brilliant (this was after backing the groundskeeper). The softness that the other guy said that felt cheaper is actually the magic to it. It'll be a bummer that I'll never hold a groundskeeper deck of that same quality.

On that note, I'm grateful goldsmith stuck with Cartamundi.

People who don't understand playing card collecting community should leave it to the experts. Funny part is they actually GOT an expert, and then decided to completely ignore him. And they treat their customers the same way.

Softness, not always but usually and definitely in Cartamundi's case, typically means lower lifespan. That may be what your guy meant when talking about cheapness.

I shuddered when I saw that bit - my first thought was “I bet if it was tarot stock he would really love it” followed by “may have to cancel my pledge”, which still hangs in the air.

I’m sure he meant something - my worry is they listened to him (mostly because they wanted to badly it seems - cartamundi seems like a far off hope at this point.)

Exactly LoL…
They go to Wake for the creative direction for Groundskeeper and Corrupted, and then when things done, they go “bye bye” and start taking care stuffs by themselves.

Jeez… now I start to worry I won’t get some of my money back from their overcharging fulfillment

After much of pestering Wyrmwood, at the extent to say a farewell message to dropped out from Corrupted, they finally replied:

looks painful but todays video shows why they're doing it. I have no basis for knowing whether their plugin calculations are correct but it sucks either way.

They're being audited by their state (which doesnt affect international obviously) to make sure they collected (really paid) all the sales taxes for the things they sold.
(as they said at the end one of the 459 different tax returns they have to file)

the thing is though its not like they're pocketing that money, or winning new fans by charging it, its a lose/lose for everyone.

Maybe it’s best that I ask for cancelation and full refund of the thing and waited it out to be on TGW’s webstore

I'm sure this was mentioned elsewhere, but will it likely be possible to buy any of the decks from any of the WW campaigns aftermarket?

only on the gentleman wake site or eBay. Wyrmwood will likely put them on their web site too but thats probably not what you're asking.

I guess socal or someone could buy out partial collections or just put them up at a markup from the KS. Ive never known WW to have someone be their distributor for anything.

KS wrote:We are still working on getting Groundskeeper back on the website, though with the holiday season in full swing, it's taking a bit more time. There are a significant amount of backers that still need to finalize their orders, and we'll be rolling that out ASAP. That said, we don't have a hard date at this time. Those backers not yet finalized should expect an email from us when the products come back on the website to let them know we're ready for them to finalize. Fulfillment timeline is unaffected by this.

WJPC has been doing a great job with the designs and the samples they sent us looked quite good. We're working with them to nail down the particulars - one change is the sizing of the artwork, which was a bit smaller than we liked in the samples.

The chips and coins have been confirmed and we have placed the order with the vendors for these, so the manufacturing of these items will begin soon. The bonus card guard will be produced in a matte black finish, fusing the two elements we liked from the samples shown previously. This was our ideal finish for the item, so we're very happy that was able to happen.

Samples and footage of the Groundskeeper deck has been aired here and on our YouTube series Wyrm Lyfe, and we noticed - you may have, as well - that the green used in some cardbacks had some variation. This initially concerned us, but we have learned it was an intentional choice by the manufacturer, because the cooler green is the color that will be used on the PVC decks, while the warmer one will be on the paper decks. Plastic and paper have different possibilities as far as ink colors go, so they wanted to make sure we saw both.

Greetings Friends,

I am new to this forum and the wonderful world of playing card collecting. As an Wyrmwood Modular Gaming Table backer I was excited to discover The Groundskeeper and have a beautifully designed set of cards, chips, and coins for my table. Indeed, it was The Groundskeeper that shined a light on the path of fantastically designed cards.

Through The Gentleman Wake I am dipping my toes into this world, and I am now a backer of The Groundskeeper, The Corrupted, and The Beetle Backs. I now have an overwhelming urge to collect the Dynastinae editions. Omar has put me on the path to discovering other designers. I now have incoming orders from TGW and Jocu as well as a healthy (and growing) wish list. I'm patiently waiting before I pull the trigger on other items.

My primary conflict will be whether to open the decks or keep them as collector items. I believe I might have to order double :D.

To Omar specifically... as an MGT backer I am fully aware of Wyrmwood shenanigans (lawd knows when I will get my table?). I don't believe for one moment The Gentleman Wake brand is tarnished at all. As mentioned above I've backed the Kickstarter and ordered from the website.

I look forward to seeing what comes next. Keep Rocking!

Hi Gary, all of this is awesome to hear! I will make a few reccommendations as a newbie to the hobby. Keep your collection HIGHLY curated. Try to be disciplined on only collecting a few brands/designers. Focus on those. This will allow you to keep your spending in check. Also if you have your budget set you can go ahead and buy two of the more standard and less expensive editions so that you can open one. One to stock. One to Rock! Consider some brick boxes which will allow you to use the some of the decks to practice your handling and play with and some to keep perfectly minty.

And the urge to collect Dynastinaes.... that's a worthy objective. The artists and I have worked hard to make each Dynastinae edition a pinnacle work of playing cards art. Thanks for your support and welcome to UC!
