I am no expert in mental health and maybe the reason is not necessarily important but I hope the stress of the unfulfilled VxD campaigns did not play a factor in Andrew's death. I realize the underlying reason of it is possibly very complex.

Kickstarter should really have a better way of handling things like this. When I first read the update I readily accepted it was from KS, but after reading some of the suspicions other people had it did make me start to doubt. The update should have came from an official KS account or had some other way to verify their identity, and as others have said, a link to get help if you’re having suicidal thoughts. Or not even mentioned cause of death for privacy reasons. Just seems like an unprofessional way to handle it by KS. To be fair, I’m sure this isn’t something they have to do often, and hopefully never have to again.

I agree, the strangeness of the delivery method (and also the wording of the message) is what caused me to reach out to confirm. I'm supposing that the family are the ones that dictacted the message and decided to provide the details. I'm sure they are in much pain and my heart goes out to them.

I think the exclamation point they chucked in that announcement was as tone deaf as the original post - obviously KS is no better at tact than they are at anything else

Why would a family member disclose the cause of death to ks and why wouldn't they ask that ks not share that with everyone. It is a very sensitive and private piece of information.

I did think that giving THAT cause of death was...completely unnecessary, just say "he passed away" and leave it at that.

sure, I agree, but some of them (cancer for general) at least sets a tone people are more understanding about.

This is a very sad and chaotic situation. Many people understandably have a lot of questions. I hope they eventually get some real answers that will calm them so that the issue can be peacefully put to rest.

I think the family made a clear decision when they chose to close the kickstarter account and asked for the update to be posted.

I hope that everyone finds it in their heart to let that be the only real answer they need, rather than prying or pushing or god forbid attacking.

And with that, I hope that we have seen the end of all posts questioning what can be posted and why, and continue with the ones that belong at what I have been attempting to avoid calling, a wake.
