That's very impressive! I especially like the Wall display, simple and effective.
Did I see only one pair of UC decks? :o Where's your loyalty, man? :?:

Great Ornates' brick boxes. Very sweet!
I actually got the idea for the wall displays from a picture posted by someone here, I think it was Paul (Encarded).

And I only have 2 UC decks on display ;)

Wall display, middle row, 3 left most decks.

Forgot what they were called.

And I'll try to get some pics on here a bit later.

Probably just Shark Backs or something like that. There's another, rarer, version that I don't have :(

Very impressive collections guys!

I have a question though, for the people who buy bricks: Any specific reason?

You really like those decks, so you wanna make sure you keep a healthy stock forever and ever?
You give them to friends and family?
You plan on selling them when they become very rare?

I for one, almost always buy a single deck and open it. I don't have the restraint to keep something sealed (be it an action figure, game, playing card deck etc). I like to open the deck, admire the artistry in every card, do a few shuffles and tricks, show them off and then put them away.

That might change after discovering Kickstarter though; with the Federal 52s, Calaveras and Empires where I bought extra decks to keep sealed and others to play around with. That's why my collection is taking a while to grow.

I only buy one deck too, just to play with. I mostly play games by myself but I also play with family and friends. I wouldn't dare bring a good deck to play with my co-workers because their heavy handed asses be slammin' down cards and bending the corners.

I think people buy more than one deck so they can sell it for a higher price. If somebody see a rare deck, they'll want it new so all the cards will be in it. Buying a used decks, you hope all the cards are there and that they're not bend or the tuck banged up.

All the cards I have I'll never give away. They're like little pictures of artwork. I figure some people can collect things and enjoy them by only looking at them but I want to be able to actually put them to use.
"When I like something, I buy. No matter who did it, how many were printed or how many (re)colors exist.

When I don't like something, I pass. No matter who did it, how many were printed or how many (re)colors exist."

Agreed. I see lots of great decks there. Is that a Silver Slipper deck I see next to the Virginia Slims? I never got what the fuss was about with them. And what's inside the clear single deck box with the D&D Joker on top of one of the display cases?

Thanks for looking Magik. That is just a plastic single card protector. It's a D&D autographed Joker.

Today I bought an old coin collection / specimen cabintet - it fits decks of cards really nicely! I should fit around 210 decks - so i can comfortably double my collection before I have to start searching for another!

MCJ, That is an awesome get. What a perfect repurposing! I'm jealous. Where do you find something like that and if I may ask about what did it run you? Kudos again on this find.

Scouring ebay and local sales!

It cost me £175. Not a steal, but it's a decent size, very solid, mostly oak (some ply in the drawers and runners) and around 50-60 years old.
It had furniture board inserts with circular cutouts for coins, but I think these were later additions. You can also see some darker areas on the drawers where label plates used to be. It's designed to be portable(ish) - maybe a mini plan/map chest?

I was looking for a nice way to store decks face up rather than side on - in a similar way to a wall display - so that they can be enjoyed but not over exposed to sunlight etc. Something with wide flat drawers was a must - any you can find plenty of those, but finding something with drawer dimensions that fit a decent number of decks without huge gaps leftover has proved to be tricky.

It works out to less than a quid a deck (or will do when full), and I think it looks pretty good - so I'm pretty happy with it! :)

Yup I went mental on eBay and Craigslist as soon as I read your original post. Looks like blueprint cabinets would be a home run. They are a bit pricey though. I'm gonna keep my eyes peeled for something vintage. Again, good snag MCJ, thanks for sharing!

It is not the size of the collection, but how you display it that matters!

I've found a few of these on Kijiji... but they are metal, similar to a filing cabinet. And new ones online are crazy expensive.
I'll just have to keep looking!

Amazing cabinet!

Thanks!

I found this site a while ago - they seem pretty perfect, and the non premium cabinets are pretty reasonable (unless you want to ship them across the Atlantic of course)

Thanks everyone! Tom- sexy is a word I would use to describe them too ;) And now that I live with my girlfriend, a whole new slew of people are coming to visit and checking them out. But I still have no idea how to answer when people ask me how or why I first started collecting... :?:
