Alliance Woven Back

Unread post by EndersGame »

I noticed that a couple of the new decks from Penguin weren't posted here yet, so I figured I"d get up a thread for them. This is another of their releases made in a limited edition of 500, geared towards their Today Get It Free offer:

Alliance Woven Back Playing Cards

https://www.penguinmagic.com/p/17832

Part of the ad copy:

Paying tribute to the rich history of traditional playing cards, Alliance Woven Back seem as if they've been teleported 100 years into the future to land here in 2022.

The cards feature a simple, borderless woven pattern on the backs that is reminiscent of the daily poker decks of years gone by. The deck uses Penguin's custom standard faces, Jester jokers, and a custom Ace of Spades. A blank face and a double back card are included.

The box has a traditional style that looks right at home during any card night or magic routine - never raising suspicion. It also has some modern enhancements, such as inside printing for that extra touch of elegance & finish. The box is topped off with a custom Penguin Cards stamp seal with individual numbering.

While these cards make a beautiful part of any collection, they are also intended to be a fantastically usable deck.

I was looking at Joseph Pierson's wonderful bicyclecards website last night and I could not help but think that the above Alliance deck should have been labelled as a reproduction.

I cannot see any difference between it and the Bicycle Club Back deck of 1917 - 1969 (no.19 on Mrs. Robinson's list)
Compare the above cards to the following pic of the Bicycle Club Back tuck that Joseph has on his site

You will also see a pic he has of a rare brick of Club Backs. The reason I include the brick is because I am baffled how there is no Club Back on Portfolio 52's db - surely someone has this classic Bicycle deck (maybe I am just missing something here)
There is an Alliance on P52 - I put it there

Here is a link to Joseph's Club Back page

https://bicyclecards.org/cards_post/club/

ps this thread should probably have the following link for the other thread which reviewed Alliance

Reproduction, at least for me, does mean it's an exact recreation of the original though. The back design of the Club back is different to Alliance (were the white lines are angled at 90 degrees) and the courts plus jokers aren't like the original as well.

I can see why no one is doing that for a back design that simple, I mean, they're literally just white lines crossing each other.

Can't agree more. Just not the design for nowadays. The last similar design I bought is Anyone
