so far, i haven't opted for the personalized box. wondering how many of you collectors out there are springing for that?

It has been a while, I take my sweet old time and work all this stuff out pretty obsessively. Hopefully USPCC does their thing and gets us these shiny new cards at Q1++ quality!

I'm going to do a little video showing more details about the personalized decks in a few weeks. Maybe I"m just geeking out a little, but it's really fun to me and took a lot of creative thinking, designing and hardware to put together and I certainly haven't heard anyone else try it. Stuff like that just makes me happy.

Btw, this is not a knock on the fine projects that have been released in just the last couple of weeks. I'm just an addict who checks KS several times a day... and a "while" can be a pretty short period of time for me.

Kudos to Paul for continuing to push the envelope with production and materials.

However, and maybe this is just me, but i don't usually think of art deco and holographic foil as having much to do with each other. Maybe this is a feature best reserved for a future deck with a different theme?

Well, you are basically right. This is just a personal experiment and not something that will be for sale. We have to work on things like this to try out techniques, see what designs are possible in various situations, etc. I needed to see what level of detail this foil could even reproduce and how difficult it was to work with. This one came out pretty sweet but is not 100% perfect, so I wouldn't feel right about selling it to a customer. Luckily for me, that means another "1 of 1" item for my collection.

A lot of Art Deco is about being bright and shiney with strong geometric designs.

I guess I never looked close enough at these. I hadn't noticed all the little Deco style fans in the background of the card backs. Beautiful! I continue to be impressed by your efforts Paul. No detail overlooked. Well Done as always.

I am sure most of you have seen this but a very important update from Paul

Well everyone, we have an unforeseen issue.

Everything was ahead of schedule and I currently have 5,000 Deco decks sitting in Encarded HQ. Last night I started to go through some of the decks to get the holographic seals on the signed and numbered edition and quickly noticed that most of the decks I was looking at had very bad scuff marks on the sides of the tuck cases where the ink has been worn right off in the finishing process (see pictures below). This is unusual and none of the decks in my personal collection exhibit this problem, and I've personally looked through over 10,000 of my previous deck releases and never ran across this.

Investigating further (my wife and I looked through over 1,400 decks by hand last night), it appears that the majority of the decks, in both colors, have these bad marks on the box. While the cards would be fine, these do not meet my quality standards at all and I don't feel that I can ship these cards out to you. Encarded, as a brand, is all about extremely high-quality and attention to detail. As a collector myself, I know that I would be disappointed to purchase a premium custom deck and have it arrive with noticeable flaws.

As such, I have been in touch with USPCC and to make a long story short, Deco is going to be reprinted. I am going to revise the tuck design today (and will try to make it even more awesome). This is unfortunately going to add a delay to shipments. I was going to start assembling orders this week but obviously that can't happen yet. Deco was a very expensive deck to produce (the box alone cost more than most entire decks) and we need to have them in perfect shape.

I apologize for the delay, this truly was an unforeseen issue! My primary goal is to get you a product that is as close to perfect as possible, and if I could do that without delay I certainly would. USPCC, while they did let this slip through, is making everything right and we'll have a better product in the end.

We were so far ahead of schedule that even with a complete reprint we still might get things done in September, but trust that I'll make this go as quickly as possible while getting you an amazing pair of decks.

Note to all your designers out there, don't spec out all metallic inks for your tuck boxes, as USPCC will probably not let you do that anymore. Lucky me for finding that issue.

Are they trying anything to make it more resistant like cooking it longer or something? Or will we have to be extremely careful and leave 99% of the cellophane on when opening it? I usually go with with a hobby knife and cut the plastic off the lid area only, leaving the tuck as protected as possible.

This isn't an issue with normal everyday handling. But when rocketed through heavy machinery, folded and bent it doesn't hold up as well.

I actually open decks the same way now, just as a personal note, as I like to make sure they have as much protection as possible.

Well the cards are a little delayed, as you know, but the Encarded brand coins came in yesterday and look suuuuhh-weeeeet. I cut it fine and there will probably be less than 10 available in the store so be prepared to fight if you happen to want one. I'll be sure to announce when those are ready and if demand is intense I'll do a small run of version 2.
