oh nice! i looked through this thread for tuck info. sorry if i missed it.davegk wrote: ↑Fri Aug 25, 2023 10:46 am
To be clear, this tuckbox will be on black matte paper with 3 exterior foil colors (red/white/black) and red foil interior pattern. This is why the tuck art only has red/black/white coloring. It will also include a numbered custom-shaped red metallic sticker (similar to the ones used on the Stories decks but slightly different placement). Retail pricing is $20/deck and they'll be available on Kickstarter at $15 each.

Re: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (Vanda Artists / Bob Case)
Hi,
Everything looks great to me. I personally like the collectors box. The card back with the blue added looks great. The courts are sensational. I personally like the tuck having imagined the foiling and embossing added. Will the cards, front and/or back be foiled?
When are you planning to launch this campaign?
Thanks,
Paul

Re: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (Vanda Artists / Bob Case)
i wouldnt not buy because there is nothing on the inside of the tuck but i do feel it nice when it is there. i like the attention to detail. after having so many ''luxury'' decks with interior printing, if a premium deck does not have it, it looks plain. by premium or luxury i mean a deck that already has matte stock, embossing, foil, etc. especially, if they are charging about the same price as another deck with interior printing. if it has those features and not interior printing i just feel like it was missed or too lazy to do it. i wouldnt pass on a deck for not having it nor would i buy a deck just because it has it.PiazzaDelivery wrote: ↑Fri Aug 25, 2023 12:40 pm Guys, I'm curious; does ANYONE apart from those who buy unfolded tucks care at all about what is printed on the inside of a tuck case? Because it does not make a smidgen of difference to me.

No foiling on the cards but the jumbo deck will include red gilded edges.

The QoD looks relatively smaller to the point where it's obvious to me, maybe because it's surrounded by other courts.

yeah, I noticed that too...I may make some minor adjustments to sizing on some of these now that they're all in place

Lovely detail with the JoS clearly and the other courts more subtle being one-way. The KoD might be one of my favorite cards to date. The subtle banners for the character names is something well designed, too. I like that they're not too dominant.

Yah, searching for the differences was fun indeed. The difference at the Hater card might be the funniest to me. KoD I didn't found yet though. The many arms confuse me, haha.

Both of these (right side up and upside down) have eyes facing left. Wand of course also different.

More fun things...
Considering 2 options for designs for the aces: and playing with more options for the back design
- color gradient
- gold metallic (this is representing metallic gold pantone ink)
- gray subtle

The colour gradient is still my favourite when it comes to back designs. It just feels so fitting for the theme.
Regarding the aces, I can’t say I like either, it doesn’t feel whimsical enough to match the feel of the rest of the deck. If I had to pick one as is, it would be the second pictures with the lines.

the second ace certainly fits better with the courts - I favor the lines as well

I get that you're going for books that are public domain and popular, but I wish you were doing books that hadn't been done! I was hoping to pick up one of your cool-looking book case things on a future project, but I am lukewarm at best about Oz and Alice and don't care much for Peter Pan at all
That's also why I have none of Elettra Deganello's Pinocchio decks, I actively dislike the story I also think we have enough Greek/Roman decks too but I'm getting off track here

Afraid that I too do not like either A (although oblong matches courts) and I like the Gold back best

Re: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (Vanda Artists / Bob Case)
I pretty much concur with hsbc. I have a couple of copies of Alice for Tenniel's illustrations - a colour and a B&W. I have over a dozen The Wind in the Willows from various illustrators. Not hard to guess which story I prefer. I would be purchasing your cards obviously for the artwork. Just like with Alice, I have an annotated Peter Pan from the same publishers (which shows you how famous illustrators over the decades have illustrated it) but I don't think I have opened it since I bought it more than a decade ago. I have no Pinocchio. One of my careers was a childrens librarian - I love illustrationshsbc wrote: ↑Mon Aug 28, 2023 10:28 pmI get that you're going for books that are public domain and popular, but I wish you were doing books that hadn't been done! Selecting which titles are commercially viable for decks has to be tricky. Obviously best to be popular/well known - Grimm, Andersen, Aesop?

Man, tough crowd!
Anyway, moving forward...
One more variant on the back design using metallic silver ink
Agreed that the aces with pattern background and rays makes the most sense for consistency with the rest of the deck. Here are three of them (ace of spades coming still...)

Re: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (Vanda Artists / Bob Case)
I know it’s a tough crowd but you wanted feedback and hopefully are getting it.
I love most everything I’m seeing except the aces. They don’t seem to fit the theme well and feel disconnected from the rest of the deck. It’s just basically an Alice item on a heart, club or diamond. I think there’s room to actually integrate these whacky characters into the aces themselves but that’s just my opinion.

perhaps, and you might really hate me for this one - topiary aces
might just be me that holds that association to Alice

The Fry's Electronics store next to me was Alice in Wonderland themed. I wish it was still open. Loved going there as kid. The topiary theme instantly took me back.

Re: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (Vanda Artists / Bob Case)
Again, thanks for the suggestion—the topiary idea is quite interesting, however there are quite a few different visual elements in the deck and I'm trying to create some continuity between the different elements throughout. I think the aces actually do this quite well currently.
A few more fun illustrations in the extra cards...

Re: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (Vanda Artists / Bob Case)
But you are the only one who thinks so. LOL. They look very ordinaryI think the aces actually do this quite well currently.
I think it is because of the background. The addition of the background helped the Courts because some felt there was too much white space but it does nothing for the Aces
We are a tough crowd because there is so much on offer for our $ and we cannot buy everything so for most of us the decks and tuck have to be near on perfect or else we will just wait and see what comes out next week.

Re: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (Vanda Artists / Bob Case)
I agree with Honeybee. I don’t see the connection. Especially when you look at how great the courts, jokers and artist card are. The aces do not feel like they belong. They might have an overall connection to the theme but don’t feel like they fit.
Just my opinion.

I guess I’ll admit I like the aces, since I seem to be the only one.
