Well, I would say that every deck has a home somewhere, and its a cute idea that some may find tasty - but as someone with more decks than hair it takes a little something special to get me to fall for a deck.

I'm usually team border, but in this case I think a borderless design might work better.

Thanks for the response! What is something that would make this deck stand out to you given that you have such a large collection?GandalfPC wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 10:33 am Well, I would say that every deck has a home somewhere, and its a cute idea that some may find tasty - but as someone with more decks than hair it takes a little something special to get me to fall for a deck.

Re: Jam Jar playing cards - What do you think?
Thanks for the response! I originally tried the design with no borders but it made it look cluttered and messy.

That is always a tough question - and I don’t know if I would be targeting me out of the box as many others here will have less of a pile, and less eccentric tastes

I like the border. Your market is probably Anyone deck collectors. It would come down to price for me. I like some of Anyone's simple designs but have never bought any as I generally think they are overpriced for something that does not have much 'creative sophistication' - by that I mean a non artist like myself could have come up with them. To standout I think I would like to see Faces/Courts in keeping with the back design

Re: Jam Jar playing cards - What do you think?
Hey! I totally agree with you. I really want to have a distinct theme instead of just a random pattern and I plan on driving this theme home by not just the back design but through the faces too. Each number card will have a different jam splat and the courts will be in the style of those old-timey 60s general store ads where they used to advertise jam (like in the style of the image attached). Do you think that these features would allow the deck to have enough “creative sophistication”? Would this be enough for you to want to support a Kickstarter?Honeybee wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 11:29 pm I like the border. Your market is probably Anyone deck collectors. Re: Jam Jar playing cards - What do you think?
I didn't realize the jam splat was actually printed on the card - thought it was just a promo gimmick. It would put me off them I am afraid

Re: Jam Jar playing cards - What do you think?
It looks interesting but it’s the court cards that can make or break. I kinda like the jam splatter and if they are all different it will be much better. Hoping for less splatter on crowded cards and more creative ways of splattering (maybe a deformation effect on a pip). I too will think border less might be better.

That has me intrigued. I like the jam splatter and am curious to see what the courts end up looking like. It sounds like something I'd be interested in backing.jamjar_cards wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 2:42 amHey! I totally agree with you. Great suggestion Jason, the splatter taking the form of a pip would have me interested againjasonx73it wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 3:49 am It looks interesting but it’s the court cards that can make or break. Re: Jam Jar playing cards - What do you think?
So would you prefer the jam splats plus the pips made out of jam or remove the splats and just have the jam pips?

Re: Jam Jar playing cards - What do you think?
I am picturing maybe only one pip per card being replaced by a splat - strawberry for the red suits, blackberry for the blacks

Re: Jam Jar playing cards - What do you think?
No, one of the large pips
And those who know me know, I am of course wanting for the occasional dog licking a pip, a mouse tracking prints through, ants carrying away a small jar with concerted effort…. whether a smattering or a full blown transformation deck - I always like to see it.
Rip-n-Dip deck being a decent example - specifically, this pipwork:

Re: Court card feedback - Jam Jar playing cards
Not even close for me I am afraid. I wanted the theme incorporated in some original Courts. Good luck

That 60's General Store style courts you had described previously sounded intriguing. These I'm not really feeling.

Re: Court card feedback - Jam Jar playing cards
Thank you for the comment. I tried out the general store style but it kind of made the deck stray away from its overall theme. I will however try a simpler more traditional court style and let you know how that looks soon.Adamthinks wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2023 7:08 pm That 60's General Store style courts you had described previously sounded intriguing. Re: Jam Jar playing cards - What do you think?
I can't speak for everyone, but custom courts are generally the bare minimum. This does not mean a novel setting, but the courts themselves.
