Re: [Western-style deck] from Ellusionist
I thought "decks are dead..."
I haven't slept for ten days, because that would be too long.

This is Ellusionist Mystery Drop 22 FYI@levi.magic wrote:Black Water Ranch Playing Cards by @obanjones and @ellusionist
E's latest mystery deck! Cowboy-esqe theme. They seem to be on the thicker B9 stock, but with a smooth finish. They remind me of Studs. Nothing wrong with it, but the design doesn't really suit my fancy. They have the artificial weathering in the design, which is done well. Courts have an old time feel, and a little BWR brand is on all of them. Pips are easy to see. Comes with a doublebacker and duplicate QS. Printed in PRC.

Just got these in the mail. Of interest is the "Manufactured in PRC" on the bottom, so not Cartamundi this time.

Not bad. I wish the backs were a little better but not bad. So were these printed by EPCC?

I am a bit of a 'western' collector but those backs resemble so many others and I don't think the western icons work as well in miniature

I like the back of the box for card backs better, if one were to fix the one way issue there

Re: Black Water Ranch from Ellusionist (ill. Oban Jones)
Agreed. I actually really like the "vintage" style of the faces, and the tuck is simple but has its charm. The backs are what will unfortunately keep me from using these, although perhaps they will grow on me

You're right, that would have worked much better. Generally the first thing you lay eyes on is the tuck and you think - this looks good, and then you discover they have completely different backs. Not quite the case here as the background is the backs but another wasted opportunity IMO

Re: Black Water Ranch from Ellusionist (ill. Oban Jones)
Their Mystery Deck listing for it confirms it yeah. I haven't been able to keep up, but I believe this could be among the first (the first?) Expert deck by Ellusionist. I'm pretty sure they've stuck with USPC/Cartamundi since forever.
