Ignore private sales. I got these two Italian dudes messaging me on Instagram all the time to buy my rare decks when I am not even selling them. And their profile got like 4 of each of the rare deck they are asking to buy. I just ignore them. Nothing else you can do I guess. If you wanna sell them, do ebay so the market can decide the price and you don't get lowballed in a private sale.kevork wrote: ↑Mon Jan 23, 2023 2:22 am I've noticed a couple of people in the community who keep trying to buy up rare old decks (Lotrek/S17 in particular) in private sales only to try to flip them shortly after. For example, these same people keep asking me for a blue Damask, when I know they not only have their own but are also known for flipping such decks at outrageous prices. It leaves a really sour taste in my mouth and I'm trying not to get upset by it. Maybe it's because I spent countless time, effort, and money to procure really rare decks from some great people in the collecting sphere, and these bad apples make it harder for those like me to have access to such rarities because they have the capital to hoard them and keep them behind a paywall.
How do others deal with such people? I'm seeking some advice, support, conversation.
One of those guys contacted me out of the blue offering me a Delirium Signature for ~£ 1000. It was just after I'd commented on someone else's post about theirs.bdawg923 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 23, 2023 11:34 am Ignore private sales. Best I can do is $5
They're meant to either invite a best offer or to prey on unsuspecting/new collectors. I've certainly fallen into this trap a few times before.
Angler mentality. They just put out the bait and paitiently wait for the dumbest or most hungry fish in the pond.
You sometimes wonder whether they even have the deck in stock. They know they can acquire it at half the price and so only get it in when you offer to pay them twice the price.Harvonsgard wrote: ↑Wed Sep 06, 2023 9:56 amAngler mentality. You would be surprised how much folks just roam one marketplace and don't bother to check other places.
Rumor has it that folks buy e.g. Lego sets for full retail.
