Did someone mention before that UC has a Discord server? Is that where I would find you guys if this place disappeared?

I'm not aware of a Discord server having been set up. But, that *is* a good question. We should devise a cunning plan.

Hmmm. Going to think on that one....

Lightening the load as the bones age for backpacking - came across this and hopped on it - friend of mine is an extreme ultralight camper and I have always been jealous of his bag - frameless and feather light - but I have no plans to go as full bore as he does and still require ability to carry some weight - the Kakwa bag is a real salvation, with an ultralight frame and load lifters - at 1.75 pounds its 2.25 pounds lighter than my last bag, and its so comfy with weight in it you would think it was made of helium.

I respect ultra light campers only with a fanny pack. Otherwise they're just weak campers.

Hadn't checked out kbin till now. I like it, reminds me of the much older reddit. I've been using reddit for over 16 years, and have been hoping for an alternative to switch to for over a decade since the Digg migration started killing it with rage comics and memes. I'd seen others recommend Lemmy, but I'm not feeling that one so much.

Been trying out Tildes for the past few days, which is also very "old-school reddit". It's invite-only at the moment, so there won't be a huge influx of users. But it has high-quality discussions, and it's filling the reddit void in a much more positive way so far.

Reddit is pure, unadulterated cancer, so I'm suspect of any site copying the format.

In it's current form, I agree. But I'm talking early reddit, before the content turned into 90% memes, videos and creative writing disguised as truth, before it started focusing purely on ads and tracking. Tildes has no picture or video integration, you can share links to articles, but other than that it's pure discussion.

Some time after registering (via an invite link), all users are able to generate a certain amount of invite codes to give out. Anyone can browse the site without posting, though.

That does really remind me of old school reddit. I like it. Any chance you have any remaining invites you'd be willing to part with?

Edit: Thanks hsbc.

Watched Oppenheimer yesterday. Great movie. What's up with the "this movie makes you depressed" kind thing that is expressed in some corners of the interwebs. I didn't get that vibe at all.

On another note; I can't wait for Dune 2 to hit the cinemas. Will be one of the few flicks I'll watch in the movie theatre.

On the topic of cinema, Black Adam just started streaming on Prime last week or so - I had seen it with my mum months back and discussed it with her a few times since but the appearance of it on Prime brought about a wrap to the conversation.

I have waited to describe her experience until now, as it was simply too much for her to take in all at once and required time to process….

The Rock did not survive his pension for violence I’m afraid and all attempts to get her to see “The Tooth Fairy” to redeem him were for naught.
