[Shade] A little of this & a whole lot of that
Inspired by many of the other collections on display I thought I would introduce myself and start a compilation of my collection.
My name is David Young and I go by Shade here, on the Playing Card Forum & the 52plus Joker Club. I have been a collector since 2011, started by the humble beginnings of looking for some better quality cards for poker home games. Now spanning what I consider 3 eras of modern playing cards production starting with the original (primarily USPCC) Ellusionist, Theory11, D&D & Blaine releases, into the era of the first kickstarter campaigns of Jackson, Paul & UUSI and many others, and now in the current era of Patreonship and subscriptions. All pulling a share of wallet, mine being a sieve.
I am also inspired by some of the other collectors here who have dipped their toes or plunged head first or have been submerged for a while in the antique card collecting. They have shown some amazing and beautiful antique decks, an eye opener for me.

I guess I will start with what I have been working on recently which is displaying some of the peripheral items I have collected. Like Tuck uncuts inspired by Lorenzo's patreon release Black Requiem uncut display box.

Re: [Shade] A little of this & a whole lot of that
Not happy with the frame for the Astra Polaris tuck, it is more challenging due to the uncut came on much bigger paper. Loth to cut it down to fit in 8x10 frame.

Work in progress on framing and hanging my Mana Canvas print 1/2. Also my mana deck collection one of which is 1 of 10 pre-released awards signed under the cellophane which was partially opened.

Thanks for sharing. A lot of this stuff goes back to before I was collecting. Insanely rare stuff. It is so great to see the creators letting this stuff out as special items for fervent collectors. Stunning stuff. Please excuse my drool.
Those displays, especially the Le Chat Rouge display, are just great.
More please.

Some other goodies... I showed these over on LLE as well. Recently bought a couple card display cases that turned out really nice.

Link off Amazon - they come covered in protective paper took some time to unpeel it all and get all the little static pieces off them. But worth it!
They are magnetic like Carat Cases, and have a thin middle layer with the card cut outs sandwiched between the thick outer layers.

Re: [Shade] A little of this & a whole lot of that
I have bought a lot of Ultra Pro in the past and just picked up a pair of frames to display some cards sola-chan chucked in with some watercolors I picked up - when it comes to archival quality you need to be careful who you trust
https://www.amazon.com/Ultra-Pro-Screwd ... 000COO3SO/
Plenty of variety, screw downs, magnets, snaps, thick and thin (both inner and outer dimensions) - not the cheapest nor the only, but the only one I know I can rely on.
I think BCW may be good as well, and cheap - surely there are others, just none I can vouch for.

And I find it hard to believe no one has said it yet, but I haven’t seen this much [shade] thrown since the last presidential debate

Re: [Shade] A little of this & a whole lot of that
Good point I hadn't taken into account when I purchased mine. You mention archival quality, wonder what the difference in materials make on impact to the cards over time. The one I bought is acrylic, but the two you mentioned are clear polystyrene and Lucite. I know a lot of the high end deck cases in the past have been Lucite. Will have to do some more research.
Oh, by the way you can't just throw this out there without accompanied pics...

Re: [Shade] A little of this & a whole lot of that
Acid free and uv protection are important. I've asked Sherman for example, and his acrylic cases are not UV protectant at all, so having decks in carat cases that get much sunlight can still fade. Archival materials should be UV protected but nothing beats a cool, dark environment. Some day I'd like to get a display and fit it with museum glass with a nice curtain that covers the whole display that I can open and close as I wish.

Re: [Shade] A little of this & a whole lot of that
Not worried too much about UV, UV protection is expensive. My decks live in a cave - always have the blinds down in my office. But over time even a little makes a difference.kevork wrote: ↑Sun Jul 09, 2023 5:13 pm Acid free and uv protection are important. Picked up this beauty from Paul, would definitely like to get the Arte Nove Dark Edition as well.
Also the Oxalis Signature, have an earlier one I bought, but it did not come with the actual signatures.

Re: [Shade] A little of this & a whole lot of that
I would've loved to buy the Chronos Carmina uncut but the scalper overseas gave me so much trouble that it didn't work out. Nice to see it in a home where it can be appreciated. I hope you can find a dark Arte Nova. That one looks especially nice with the artwork.
That's a good point. You're already blocking the source of UV mostly then.

Re: [Shade] A little of this & a whole lot of that
Working on framing the Noctis uncut tuck, but undecided on whether to include the carat case + deck. Seems like the carat case over crowds the tuck. Thoughts?

Finished the 52plus joker tuck today as well. I couldn't find quite the right backer color I had in mind. This one turned out OK but may be a little too light.

I need to pull these from the frame so I can get some better shots, but here is the quick and dirty…
A couple more coming in the next zenmarket shipment as well.

Do you have an extra Heretic Noctis card you can place in that blank space behind the glass? I do agree with you that the carat case overcrowds the uncut tuck.

Could you try a bigger frame over all and space out the Carat Case and tuck?
What are these?? Who is Sola-chan? (Probably not but) is there a deck in this style?
