Re: TGW presents The Beetlebacks designed by Widakk
even i read that like lol. i think there was at least one valid point in there even if phrased a little aggressively. higher prices are already kind of expected. if i search my memory banks, sometimes faulty and incomplete, i dont recall pricing causing the biggest stirs. i think you have avoided/minimized, so far, the biggest sticking points in this particular campaign which is encouraging but also knowing that some of those issues are returning in future projects.double_left wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2023 6:33 pmwhats the sense, ur just gonna reply with a lengthy post about production, outsourcing, ur time and other nonsense or maybe the current community already expects a $80 prism deck is the norm these days from you I donnoTheGentlemanWake wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2023 6:10 pm I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've ever posted prices/campaign structure that hasn't resulted in a huge multipage argument about it.
i think releasing half of the prism to be available to all at first is a good compromise. not the best option, imo, but at least people will get a chance at one even if there are not enough. i read this as half will be available to all as an add on initially and once those run out only certain tiers will be able to add on. better but may still cause a bit of pain for those that would want to buy the prism only.
there was no mention of how the dynastinae would be released. add on or part of a set tier. add on could cause the same issue as stated above. if i were asked to predict the future, my prediction would be that the dynastinae will only be available in half or full brick tiers also by pledging for crimson, cobalt, prestige and dynastinae as a set reintroducing an issue for some. still gated behind buying other decks but at least it is not a large, non playing card item gate. not ideal for some but better.
stretch goals with decks visible from the start of the campaign is great and allows folks to see what may be coming and budget or set expectations accordingly. much better than surprise decks mid campaign i think.
regardless of how your information is received, you are still one of, if not the best designer at giving pre-game info and discussion. i think that it is safe to say that is appreciated by all.

Re: TGW presents The Beetlebacks designed by Widakk
Ultimately the conundrum with limited decks is that you want the backers who want to support you by getting everything to be protected. If I make decks like Dynastinae something people can simply get without ordering the standard decks I run two risks. That the Dynastinae sell out before the individual who wants to purchase everything can get it and b) that I don’t justify the cost of printing the much more expensive deck by subsidizing the costs by selling standard decks. Still a few (100-150) will be made available as addon. Experience has shown that most people who buy dynastinaes tend to buy the standard editions as well. That goes for store purchases too. in the beetle backs case it helps that the decks will be so different to the standard releases.
Regarding pricing. I try to keep pricing consistent as much as I can. The standard and prestige decks will cost the same as they did during Successor. The Dynastinae costs the same as well. In fact the $85 prism is the most inexpensive prism to date.

Althought I thought that The Beetlebacks are going to be workers deck, especially for the standards edition - should it be at least $15 max?

I can’t produce $15 that have three foils tucks and Pantone inks. So maybe they are white collar workers instead of blue collar ones.laitostarr777 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 03, 2023 12:14 am Althought I thought that The Beetlebacks are going to be workers deck, especially for the standards edition - should it be at least $15 max?

I'm digging the different colored green foil on the green stock of Dynastinae. And that legacy version really does feel legacy.

I am a newb, coming in late (so much to catch up on). I agree with Omar's thoughts completely. I love my TOTT's and see these courts as a very subtle variation eg here is the Ks from TOTT and the rough of the Ks from Omar's post on pg2 of this thread - very similar. Note the TGW beetle on the King's pendant from the TOTT'TheGentlemanWake wrote: ↑Thu Oct 20, 2022 10:37 amEasiest answer is that this is my vision at this time. I also think beautiful customized standard courts will perform better overall in the general market (not just collectors). To me the beetleBacks should feel like the flagship TGW deck in the way the rider backs are the flagship bicycle deck. Maybe later on there will be a version with a court of beetles but not this time. I personally LOVE it when the courts are an homage to the highly recognizable standard courts but done in fresh ways.PiazzaDelivery wrote: ↑Thu Oct 20, 2022 9:02 am Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't TotT supposed to be

designed to be a customized classic deck perfect for gameplay and magic.
Not criticizing whatsoever, if that's the overall aesthetic you're going for with the TGW line, that's your prerogative. Just curious as to why it seems this is the case a 2nd time with a theme I think we can all agree would likely lend itself particularly well to very interesting "MORE customized" courts.

Re: TGW presents The Beetlebacks designed by Widakk
I have to say I’m impressed, by the looks, the art and most of all by the direction.
I’ve been following Omar since his beautiful deck reviews and I was fully on board for the Parlour KS. Then came the Tale of the Tempest and as much I loved Lotrek at the time I had never soent a lot on a single deck and after a long debate I decided I couldn’t justify the price point jump to get prism. (Long time after that I obviously bought it for more to try and complete my Lotrek collection but thats another sad story).
The Successor, I skipped completely, wasn’t much drawn by the art and it left a sour taste in my mouth because I really like your style in production, but it all felt like, can I say cash-grabey without meaning it as insult?
Then I started following the threads here on UC and I saw you as the kind and reasonable person I remembered from the YouTube reviews. The fact that the wyrmwood decks were all available as deck tiers made me super happy and I backed it.
And now the Beetleback project that not only looks amazing but as other have said the price point and the tiers look spot on.
And I can’t wait for Grave Encounters that so far looks like my favorite of all the TGW projects.
So thank you Omar for being here, for sharing info and designs, for everyhing. And I’m also happy cause I think I got back a person a liked a lot and for some time I thought I had lost. Keep up the great work.

Re: TGW presents The Beetlebacks designed by Widakk
Hey Omar, keep up the good work. Thinking about Beetlebacks as your 'riderback', somewhere down the road you must produce a blue collar edn without foils to be a true but beautiful workers deck. A somewhat simpler back that can be loved and potentially recognized like riderbacks. Maybe even something like the interior tuck pattern you have posted in just black and white. One day 'foils' may be very 'yesterday' but great design/artwork will never be.TheGentlemanWake wrote: ↑Sat Jun 03, 2023 1:36 pmI can’t produce $15 that have three foils tucks and Pantone inks. Re: TGW presents The Beetlebacks designed by Widakk
An update for customers and future customers:
My Goldsmith projecrt production is currently delayed because Cartamundi is experiencing issues with production/planning. They've been a bit vague about the issues. Not sure what could be causing the problems on their end. Just as an example, I placed the order for Beetlebacks Prototypes in MAY (a substantial time prior to launching the Goldsmith pre-order) and those decks have not been produced. In fact I'm being told the small order (only 50 decks) will not potentially be ready until October. This is also affecting the Villa Beluno CAP 002 launch. I will advise when I know more! Just be assured the decks are coming!
THIS HOWEVER may affect the Beetle Backs. I'm currently looking at wjpcc and eppcc as options. Not really too keen on USPCC as their registration issues and foiling is substandard.

I'm sure this is also a consideration for other producers that avoid USPCC, but to make this particular concern front and forward is one of the reasons I enjoy backing your stuff. You're a collector first, its clear your projects stem from your own enjoyment of the hobby and you strive for the best. Good stuff TGWTheGentlemanWake wrote: ↑Tue Aug 01, 2023 2:53 pm Not really too keen on USPCC as their registration issues and foiling is substandard.

Re: TGW presents The Beetlebacks designed by Widakk
WJPCC has been making some pretty great decks as of late ( the recent Eye of Kukulkan decks being a great example) and the projects I've backed that have used them have generally been reporting them as easy to work with. Gio has been using them a bit recently too (the Midas deck being an example).TheGentlemanWake wrote: ↑Tue Aug 01, 2023 2:53 pm An update for customers and future customers:

He’s been saying September on his Discord, but I also think he was wanting to get his prototypes before launching. With that being potentially pushed back to October and him looking at other options, it might end up being later than that now. Sadly.

And regarding Beetlebacks. No decisions have been made yet. I'm currently exploring options outside of Cartamundi for all facets. I promise that whatever the end result it will be the best decision for the project!

Re: TGW presents The Beetlebacks designed by Widakk
Spent a good amount of time discussing the virtues and faults of WJPCC with Lorenzo and Gio. Both have very positive things to say generally. Quality. Price. Speed. All good. Sometimes they make mistakes so I’ve been warned to be on top of them. I’m going to try printing a batch of prototypes with them for BeetleBacks while I wait for Cartamundi to print those.
I do like the idea of some hot foil stamped editions. And colored gilding which cartamundi doesn’t do.

Cartamundi Prototypes came in. 3 months late. But at least in hand. Waiting on WJPC prototypes now too. Still undecided as to which facility I will use.
