There's a kernel for something really cool here, but this missed the mark for me. That back design in particular feels unfocused and looks like a mix of styles that don't quite mesh.

I'm definitely liking this blue stock compared to the mockup and if that's foil I'm seeing on the waves, it looks great.
I don't really like that it says "Playing Cards" on the front. Feels unnecessary when Akita could be written much larger.

Yes - I would use the bottom of the tuck (perhaps top or side) if I felt a need to label them as Playing or Poker cards - no need to interfere with the front or back of an art deck with such a tag
And I would not feel a need - pretty sure I wouldn’t at least (not my money on the line)
Actually interested in the answer people have to that one - without a label on it saying they are poker/playing cards anywhere would a deck potentially suffer? I can’t imagine it, since they won’t be on a retail shelf but always get the benefit of an internet description or categorized store…

I don't believe it would suffer for the reasons you mentioned. You hit the nail on the head.
