Re: [KS] the APOSTLES playing cards
Reminds me of the Shakespeare deck regarding the art style. I'm always hesitant with decks of this theme, so I'll pass.

I like these, but not for the price. Almost $20 each, shipped. I too am on the fence.

Re: [KS] the APOSTLES playing cards
Those courts aren't just LIKE the recent Shakespeare deck, they ARE the recent Shakespeare courts tweaked to hold Bible-ly stuff. Very disingenuous to call them Apostles, especially when the designs were directly inspired by a much older Shakespeare deck. Yikes.

This is ironic when you consider who posted this project on here to promote: the creator behind Royal Warriors who got hit with copyright infringement.

Re: [KS] the APOSTLES playing cards
Don't think it is infringement because they are using the same designer. Designer is just re-using their own stuff. I'd be fine with that if the approach was "these are a new 'standard court'" like the critter series from PCD, but this design is cobbled from the old Shakespeare art already.kevork wrote: ↑Fri Mar 31, 2023 2:34 pmI was feeling to lazy to go compare but wow...wingedpotato wrote: ↑Fri Mar 31, 2023 11:29 am Those courts aren't just LIKE the recent Shakespeare deck, they ARE the recent Shakespeare courts tweaked to hold Bible-ly stuff. Both campaigns using the same artworks created by Maksym Lebedyk (https://www.istockphoto.com/vector/poke ... rity=false), they buy resources and/or look like they "hire" that designer. The main point belong to the collectors about their interest, their collection style... And of course the deck that comes up after is always at a disadvantage.

Re: [KS] the APOSTLES playing cards
Nobody in here has bet (or still bets) an eye when fan favorite designers rehash their courts or common domain antique courts but if unknown creators do it is the main mention of the thread. Kinda funny.
So in that regard I would back these in a heartbeat. Unfortunately for the designer I don't feel the tuck boxes which gimme a generic all foil vibe. While better executed than e.g. the generic stuff Riffle Shuffle puts out, it still falls into a similar category for me personally.

At the risk of repeating, if these courts were an ORIGINAL design of the artist, I'd not be complaining. It is the fact that it is based on old artwork depicting Shakespeare characters and passing them off as biblical characters that chafes me where I don't like to be chafed.Harvonsgard wrote: ↑Tue Apr 04, 2023 9:22 pm Nobody in here has bet (or still bets) an eye when fan favorite designers rehash their courts or common domain antique courts but if unknown creators do it is the main mention of the thread. Re: [KS] the APOSTLES playing cards
Wow, they had straight said they had gotten the design from the creator of the Shakespeare deck and named him on the campaign. That they didn't actually get his permission while doing that is wild.
