Certainly nice artwork, and a very low early bird price. But what does a castle have to do with animals?

I think he is thinking that court cards usually represented by kings and queens just belong in a castle. This is his second try at this project as the first one was cancelled in September. I can't say I am a fan of the art or the backs

I guess that's a fair rationalization, even though it is a bit of a reach. I do like the artwork, but the whole feel of the deck is lacking due to the theme not being consistent and immersive enough.
Re: Westeros' Wilderness - Bicycle Playing Cards now live on
Too colourful and bright for such serious subject matter. Not a fan.

I don't know whether you'd call this a reverse jumbo index or what but the large suit symbols are overpowering the thin artwork for me. Seem to be fighting the artwork, which is well done.

To me it's just lacking something. DK what exactly but it's just left wanting. And are there no copyright issues with the name Westeros being the land referenced in Game of Thrones? I'm assuming that's where he got the idea since the different courts line up with the vigils of the houses in GoT.

Re: Westeros' Wilderness - Bicycle Playing Cards now live on
Looks like there has been a name change to Royal Wilderness. There is a backer only post which explains why, but damned if I'm going to back this piece of sh*t just to find out what it says.
Re: Westeros' Wilderness - Bicycle Playing Cards now live on
I never really understood why people do that. I really believe very few updates should not be made available for the general public
Thanks!
Thanks!

If you guys haven't realized. stay away from this project, it's going to get sued. "Westeros" is the intellectual property of George R.R. Martin, and HBO has some rights to it too.

The project is now again in life :
Something is strange, the amount is very small to produce these cards by USPCC, isn't it !?

Re: Westeros' Wilderness - Bicycle Playing Cards now live on
The final hours are ticking down on this, just wanted to remind folks. The name has been changed and is no longer Westeros, and the creator has said he'll pitch in another $1000 of his own money if the funding gets to $5500. Prices are excellent on this deck, he recently created a $6 per deck tier if you missed out on the early bird special. The art is pretty nice, and at a low price like that, I've given it a pledge. I think it got off to a poor start because of the name, but you might want to see where it's at before it ends.

Two decks for 10 bucks? All the while supporting an artist who REALLY wants to get his deck out?
I'll bite.

Gonna stay away myself, while he's changed the name, it's still based on copyrighted materials and I'm really surprised he hasn't had the hammer come down on him yet. Also the court cards look like a first draft sketch, they're well done, but they're found wanting IMO. I don't know if the guy is trying to scam or if he's just in over his head but I'm going to stay away.
Not to mention, the artist saying he'll pitch in $1k to make sure it gets funded just screams to me, "I'll make sure it gets funded so I can steal everyone's money and pay the legal fees since I'm being sued by George R.R. Martin, Random House Publishing and HBO."

Re: Westeros' Wilderness - Bicycle Playing Cards now live on
Hello! I'm the creator of this PoS...
I can't believe I haven't signed up to this forum yet. My apologies for the late arrival!
I read some of your concerns. The backs are what they are. It's my design. I love it. /shrug. They're animals... but they're still royalty! Why not? Ha! As for the Suits over powering the thin line art... that's a thought. I know it's late, but I can still tweak this, and even give the pips a bit of an overhaul. What do you folks think about a stroked pip?
Other than that... I have a couple days left. Care to help make this happen??

I'm not getting sued. I'm not stealing anyone's money. Without KS, I'd be fronting 100% of the money, so every bit helps. I'm a 30 year old guy with plenty of income, not some kid trying to make a buck.
As for the art, I wanted it to be line art from the beginning. They're very much finished pieces. I appreciate opinions, and if this isn't for you, I'm sorry. Fortunately, not everyone thinks alike, and hopefully people will think they're as beautiful as I do.
Cheers!

Damn me for not reading a thread thoroughly. All I knew about GOT is that it was a tv show. Didn't know the cards were inspired by it.

I don't see how he could be sued now that the name and anything having to do with the books has been removed.chach wrote:Gonna stay away myself, while he's changed the name, it's still based on copyrighted materials and I'm really surprised he hasn't had the hammer come down on him yet. He says everything has been approved by USPCC, and offers this as evidence:

Legal issues aside, I have to agree with chach. I don't like how the faces only have sketches and not finished artwork. It looks like he quit working on them halfway through, got bored and thought "nah, this'll do fine".

I think it's the direction intended. It reminds me of those old water color books where the color dye was stroked to the border lines. There's a lot about the art I do like because of the focus in detailed lines and not relying on color fills - the mind fills that in on its own.
I do think that variance in stroke width would have added much to the artistic value, but they're also not my designs. But the colors of the strokes are good; they're all cool colors. I don't know how they'll print though... If the USPCC uses Roland top end printers, they'll be fine. I used them Roland printers when I did signage and textile printing.
Still, I think they're nice looking but they don't grab my personal artistic tastes.

Diamonds! I'm digging the stroke. My backers agree!! Thanks for the suggestion Widdee!!
Again... very much finished artwork. These were meant to be line art from the get go. I think having the lined pips stresses that point a bit, actually.

Yeah $6500 is going to be enough to print a Bicycle deck? Plus I find it strange that this deck struggled for so long and even 3 or 4 hours ago was only like 80% funded and suddenly it receives like $2000 and gets funded in the last hour or so, seems somewhat suspicious!

You need between $10,000-$11,000 to break even on a deck using Kickstarter.
Thanks!
